Israeli building codes require solar power hot water heaters. At least 8-9 months a year they work very well and save a lot of power. sunlight is free. Electricity costs money.
Not sure if this is what you had it mind.
Mind you in the winter you need to turn on the electric boost if you want a hot shower.
