We take 5 arovus for hoshanas. Why 5? The Ben Ish Chai quotes the Bnei Yissochor that 5 X 56 = 280
מנצפך ending letters which are dinim. We take 5 extra arovus which becomes
5 x (56) + 5 = 5 X (56 + 1) = 5 X 57 which is 5 x זן or 5 x (א-ל, י-ה-ו-ה) = 5 x (31 + 26) = 5 x 57 = 285. The Ben Ish Chai says that is what we mean when we say in Halel, Kel Hashem = 57 vayaer, lights up le’nu’ nu is 56.
