Why is there such a strong stigma and push against women’s “Mezumenets”? The Shulchan Aruch clearly says it’s allowed. The Rosh said that it’s a Safek Mitzvah D’Oraisa. So why is everyone against it? If there aren’t three men at the meal why do so many people think there’s something wrong with it?
September 23, 2011 9:58 pm at 9:58 pm #812084PeacemakerMemberMotivation of those pushing it. You can bet your last dollar they aren’t doing it because of S”A or Rosh. They are doing it for feministic reasons.
September 23, 2011 10:03 pm at 10:03 pm #812085popa_bar_abbaParticipantIt is as Peacemaker suggests.
The reason we don’t do it, is that it is not our minhag.
The reason we criticize it, is because it is done for feminist reasons.
September 23, 2011 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm #812086sam4321ParticipantThe Biur Halacha (199:Nashim) brings the Vilna Gaon who says that the Halcha is like the Rosh that they are obligated, but ends of saying we don’t do it(not noheg).

The roshei yeshiva to do not support this. Perhaps his daughters do this, and he doesn’t think it is worth fighting them over.
Besides, I am sure that chofetz chaim has given smicha to some nutcases. They’ve been around for 75 years, and sometimes that just happens.

But you don’t know from first hand experience?

(how do I make an evil grin here?)

September 25, 2011 12:49 am at 12:49 am #812091AbellehParticipantWhile in camp I was learning Mesechet Arachin. A sugya was “Hakol Chayav BiZimun: Lerabos es HaEesha”. From all Halachick fronts woman are chiyav in zimun (the only question would be whether it would be Dirabanan or not). Even if “people” are doing it for the wrong reasons (and one would need a considerable amount of gayvah to claim he knew exactly why “people” were doing it) they still need to do it. Just as if one person wanted to put on Teffilan because it’s healthy (which it is, actually), he would still need to do it, even though he would be putting it on for the wrong reason.
September 25, 2011 1:18 am at 1:18 am #812092Sam2ParticipantAbelleh: It’s explicit in the Shulchan Aruch that Nashim Mezam’nim Reshus.
