When you hold someone else’s baby and the baby pulls on your hair, beard or eyeglasses for security, what do you do? If it’s your own baby, the baby can feel safe without pulling hair, but a friend’s baby might really think you might drop him if he doesn’t hold on to your hair.
You can tell when a baby is holding on for fear of falling. His or her hands reach for a large chunk of hair or beard, and then they just keep holding on. When babies explore, they keep pulling at different strands of hair and glasses, and they lick it.
