OK here’s the story —-i need a new GPS bec mine was stolen- i had a garmin c330–a pretty old one i bought it around 3 years ago when they were really expensive…it didn’t have a/t fancy so now when I’m buying a new one i want one that says the street by name not the ones that say “in .2 miles turn left” i want it to say in .2 miles turn left onto main street” also the ones that tell u traffic sounds really cool—does a/o have a GPS like they like? why would i need bluetooth on a GPS?
December 7, 2008 11:52 pm at 11:52 pm #652547whatshaichesMemberNot sure about a model of gps that tells us to turn in .2 miles on main street, but the bluetooth is that you hook your phone up to it and then you can have your gps act as your phone and as a wireless speakerphone
December 8, 2008 12:12 am at 12:12 am #652548JosephParticipantWhat kind of car do you drive?

December 8, 2008 2:22 am at 2:22 am #652550Pashuteh YidMemberJoseph, what in the world does that have any bearing on the question? The anti-zionists are getting off topic again.
December 8, 2008 2:32 am at 2:32 am #652551JosephParticipantPY: I wanted to see if you’d come out of the cave.

December 8, 2008 3:03 pm at 3:03 pm #652553noitallmrParticipantTotally Maskim with eric55. Do yourself a favour and get a Tomtom. Quit the Garmin rubbish because before using a Tomtom you havn’t experianced a navigator the way it’s supposed to be.
Joseph, are you by any chance starting a new thread “What car do you drive?” coz I thought that was Will Hill’s game. But if you insist to know, I drive a Audi Q7…
December 8, 2008 4:10 pm at 4:10 pm #652555Pashuteh YidMemberYou really should know the streets well, and not just rely on the navigator. Once I was on the way to a chasunah in Lkwd with a guy who had one, and we were on Ave J and E15. Anybody would know to go to Ocean Pkwy and get on Belt to Verrazano. However, the guy insisted on following instructions to drive thru Boro Park to Fort Hamilton Pkwy. The amount of lights and double parked cars and blockages on the narrow streets in BP took an extra hour.
Also there is a famous story in Wall Street Journal about a guy who almost drove off a cliff as his navigator told him to continue on a certain path. At last sec, he turned around when he saw water and saved his life. You have to be careful.
December 8, 2008 7:48 pm at 7:48 pm #652556squeakParticipantA Yugo, OBM (the company, not the car). Once I pulled into a gas station and asked the attendant if I could get a new set of wiper blades for my Yugo. He nodded and said, “Sounds like a fair trade”.
December 8, 2008 9:00 pm at 9:00 pm #652557LeiderLeider…ParticipantI recently bought a Magellan (forgot the particular model). Program says the street names.
December 8, 2008 9:41 pm at 9:41 pm #652558AL2ParticipantI have a TOM TOM and love it- although while driving down the FDR drive one night it did tell me to take the ferry when it thought I was in the water :-), but it does not say the street names. So if you are going to go with the TOM TOM make sure it’s the version that says the names. I’m not exactly sure which version I have.
December 8, 2008 11:53 pm at 11:53 pm #652559ModernGuyParticipantThe feature you are looking for is called “text to speech” – as long as the model you are getting has that feature, it will speak the name of the street. There is a Woot Off happening starting tonight at midnight, you may want to follow that, they usualy have great deals on GPS units

December 9, 2008 2:03 am at 2:03 am #652561Pashuteh YidMemberBoth my Rolls Royce and Lamborghini have a built in GPS, so I never worry about what type the little people should buy. It is beneath my dignity. When you reach my level, there are much more high-class things to worry about.
December 9, 2008 2:11 am at 2:11 am #652562asdfghjklParticipantpashuteh yid: u don’t seem that pashuteh to me pal!!!
December 9, 2008 2:12 am at 2:12 am #652563JosephParticipantCan someone explain if any of these car models mentioned above can have a tape recorder installed (for a Torah Tape collection)? I haven’t heard of these particular brands.
December 9, 2008 9:28 am at 9:28 am #652564noitallmrParticipantJoseph…you trying to say that you don’t know something? Wahey! A Lechaim guys?
December 9, 2008 1:49 pm at 1:49 pm #652565JosephParticipantnoitallmr, Listen, I never claimed to know everything!
December 9, 2008 2:42 pm at 2:42 pm #652566noitallmrParticipantHa Joseph, straight back at me huh? But I really know everything though! That is just one of the many differences between you and me.
December 9, 2008 7:24 pm at 7:24 pm #652567iluvchulentMemberSorry guys, i just can’t resist throwing this in. So this guy asks an Orthodox Rabbi ‘Do i need to put a Mezuzah on my Lamborghini?’ The Rabbi responds ‘Whats a Lamborghini? I never heard of it!’ He then asked a Reform Rabbi the same question, and was told ‘I don’t know, we didn’t learn that Halacha. If you want to, do it, and if not, not. Finally he went to a Conservative Rabbi who responded ‘What is a Mezuzah? !!!!!

i heard a similar joke, it went:” excuse me, should i put a Mezuzah on my car?
the final answer was an israeli. he said: “what’s excuse me”

August 12, 2009 7:44 pm at 7:44 pm #652572mepalMemberSo long as you make sure not to keep your GPS holder on the dashboard/windsheild. It attracts burglars.
August 12, 2009 8:32 pm at 8:32 pm #652573oomisParticipantWe have a Garmin Nuvi (which I have not figured out yet), but my son loves it and has used it everywhere. I want one for my car that tells me exactly where to turn, in a nice comforting voice, says the street names, and has a wide screen, so I can actually see it.
