For those who celebrate Thanksgiving (and even for those who don’t).
Columbus set sail looking for a direct sea route to India (Hodu).
The native American bird we eat on Thanksgiving is the Turkey (Hodu).
Lastly, is the name Thanksgiving (Hodu).
I personally thank Hashem that I was born and raised in the USA. Eretz Yirael is my home and my favorite land. America is my country and I appreciate the opportunities and freedom found here.
The reason why people don’t celebrate Thanksgiving is because it was established as a thanks to the lord that provided for them. Like many holidays it has become secularized and a thank you to the country itself as well.
And a Thank you to the Schools that are open that are making me drive 30-40 mins EACH way to take my kids to School making me miss davening on BOTH Thursday AND Friday and likely making me waste most of Friday
I HAVE tried to get a carpool, but have failed (They normally take a bus, but there is no BUS)
INSTEAD of keeping the kids home on garbage days like a week before Peseach or 3 days off for Purim, they Should be closed when there is no bus and the parents are home
speaking to classmates, they were SHOCKED my younger siblings have 1/2 day on turkey day. from my perspective, its totally normal. to them, whats 1/2 day? you either have school or you don’t
this is prob the first year i WANT day off. i need to be able to sleep past 7 am once in a while 🙂
