How long should I expect to wait for an interview once I have submitted an application before I can assume that a graduate school isn’t interested in interviewing me?

    C’mon! No one has experience?

It depends on the type of graduate school. There are probably forums dedicated to admissions to the type of school you are talking about.

How do you know they even interview? Unless you’re talking about medical school or Northwestern law school, they may not even do interviews at all. Most schools don’t do them anymore.

The forums discuss fall admissions, while I’m aiming for spring…and they definitely interview.

I’m asking because I need to make certain decisions and I need to know if I even have a chance at this school before I finalize with another one and make future plans.

    Thanks for the answers 🙂

It takes about a year (or more) to get into med school from the time you apply.

It is not uncommon to hear back from them within two-three months of the semester you wish to enroll for. I would advise going to the school and meet with a counselor or director of admissions to find out. It’s interesting you are able to apply for spring semester. Almost all the grad schools I applied to only allowed entry every fall.

    It’s not a medical school

I’m actually in middle of applying to medical school right now, and it’s a year-long process. What field are you applying for?

And for med-school, every school needs to interview you first.

    Good luck!

You will definitely get better advice from those forums than from a bunch of yeshiva guys who don’t know if you are trying to get into Oxford or laughter therapy school.

It’s a prominent school (though not ivy league) for a social service related field. I just wanted to hear about others’ experiences or observations because I feel like it’s late in the process to be left hanging, when the schools are already starting classes in two months.

If you’ve already been accepted to another program, you have nothing to fear by contacting the desired school and asking them this question. I would even suggest you call to confirm that they received your application. I applied to several programs, and asked several people to send in recommendation letters for me. Turns out, my “choice” school received one of the recommendation letters “too late” (incomplete application) and I was closed out of the following semester. I chose not to delay grad school and went elsewhere.

Call and confirm that they received your application and that it is complete. Then ask what is the interviewing process (meaning, when can you expect to hear).
