So is anyone here following the GOP (Republican)Primaries?
It looks like it’s coming down to Romney, Gingrich and Perry. I think Herman Cain is finished with that Libya messup.
I happen to like Gingrich and Santorum. Unfortunately, Santorum hasn’t been able to rise. Unless he becomes the new flavor of the week.
I think a Gingrich Rubio ticket would be very strong.
November 16, 2011 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #8271812scentsParticipantits aint over till its over.
I still favor Cain.
November 16, 2011 9:54 pm at 9:54 pm #827182SG345MemberCain has zero chance of winning. 999 is not the solution to everything.
November 16, 2011 10:35 pm at 10:35 pm #827183TheGoqParticipantAt this point i would vote for a cardboard box over voting for Obama.
November 16, 2011 10:55 pm at 10:55 pm #827184☕️coffee addictParticipantSG345,
it can never be Gingrich/Rubio because rubio is foreign born so can’t be president
Goq,
that might be counterproductive
November 16, 2011 11:15 pm at 11:15 pm #827185TheGoqParticipantVote Boxy Boxington in 2012!!!
November 16, 2011 11:55 pm at 11:55 pm #827186SG345MemberCoffee Addict – Rubio is born in Miami in 1971 per his webpage.
November 17, 2011 12:08 am at 12:08 am #827187deiyezoogerMemberRomney is steady at around 25-30% while the others take chances rising and then falling. Nobody realy loves Romney but he is the best chance the GOP has to beat Obama. He is a good debator and runs a well orgenized campeign. Gingrich is probebly the most competent of the bunch but is not very likeble and has a lot of baggege aldough he can make the argument that he metured since he left congress in 1998.
November 17, 2011 12:46 am at 12:46 am #827188☕️coffee addictParticipantcool,
then he has my vote!
November 17, 2011 1:53 am at 1:53 am #827189aries2756ParticipantI am backing Romney. As for Cain, he proved to me he is a fool, and I can’t deal with another fool in the white house. Cain vs Obama would be an Election over which is the best of the worst?
Not only is Cain a predator, he is inexperienced (even less than Obama was) and not even interested in world events. Being on the campaign trail is no excuse for not knowing what is going on in the world. To me that means he is a narcissist who only cares about what is going on with his campaign and himself. That is a dangerous quality for head of our country. So lets NOT make that mistake again.
November 17, 2011 3:00 pm at 3:00 pm #827190yungerman1ParticipantSG345- Its hard to say Cain has ZERO chance when he was leading the in polls of likely voters.
I agree with deiyezooger. At this point we should not be looking for the best candidate, we should be looking for the candidate that is most likely to beat Obama. Romney has a consistent support base as evidenced in the polls. Has has had some more left of center points of view like health care, and is most likely to appeal to the Independants.
November 17, 2011 3:09 pm at 3:09 pm #827191BTGuyParticipantI would vote for a cardboard box over Obama, too. But you can add Gingrich to that list. I clearly remember when Newt came up with his Contract with America to dramatically cut govt’ spending, Clinton, another champ of the political arena, pointed his finger, squinted his eye as he tilted his head, and warned that Newt’s contract would leave America’s security agencies dangerously understaffed. But Newt continued and went for the fame and did it “his way”.
Well, after 911, the 911 Report cited the chief problem leading up to 911 catastrophe was that not only were our security agencies dangerously understaffed, but the understaffing situation to monitor “chatter” from suspected and known terrorists, was said to be “at a crisis level”. Newt has no foresight or vision either and is just another talking head. L’havdil, no one but Moshiach can fix this.

November 17, 2011 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm #8271922scentsParticipantI still go with Cain.
A) what makes him inexperienced? because he didnt run for office yet? he has the expertise in the field that we need the most which is JOBS.
B) I dont follow politcs so much, so I dont know what you mean that Cain is a fool. I do know that he holds some degrees, and that is straight forward.
November 17, 2011 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm #827193EzratHashemMemberI’m not ready to put the blame for 9/11 on Gingrich shoulders. It’s not only a funding problem that has caused the military/intelligence to be outdated and to be caught by surprise on 9/11.
I think we have to give Gingrich a serious and thoughtful look, simply because he is still the most intelligent, knowledgeable and experienced candidate. The press is tearing him apart now, over personal and political baggage, and it is interesting to watch how he responds. Is the Freddie Mac consultant fees really critical? Are we willing to give him slack on the divorces/cheating since he publicly says he asked God for forgiveness and asked for reconciliation? One thing can be said for sure, he is not running away nor denying. In fact he is inviting them to dig, saying if you can’t take the heat you don’t deserve to be president.
I think many people are finding him to be a refreshing change from intellectual pablum usually served up by these campaigns. Some of the other candidates really need to bow out gracefully now, since they have shown themselves to be unqualified.
November 17, 2011 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #827194EzratHashemMemberAlso, I like the way he challenges everyone’s knowledge about history. Probably the majority of Americans are pitifully ignorant. Netanyahu said it well at the UN when he charged the media for having a sense of history that goes back as far as breakfast.
November 17, 2011 5:19 pm at 5:19 pm #827195akupermaParticipantCain has time to convince people the charges are false. The ones based on when he was running the restaurant trade group probably involve the accusers’ resentment at having an inner city African American as boss. The Bialik/Allred charge could be a hoax (and implies both a witness to what could only have happened in a limo with a driver, and a paper trail pertaining to hotel payments) as will probably be clarified in the next few months. Not have slick answers to every question isn’t a problem, especially about foreign affairs since this is a year for a non-politician who will focus on the domestic economy.
Perry isn’t hopeless but he has to work on his stage presence.
Romney is flexible enough to embrace good ideas from the other candidates and convince everyone that he’s the man to implement them.
Gingrich can easily talk about learning from mistakes and embrace what will get him elected. He likes being a senior statesman, except most people want radical change.
The election isn’t for a year.
November 17, 2011 8:36 pm at 8:36 pm #827196SG345Member911 was gingrich’s fault? Clinton not doing anything about Osama when the sudan offered him on a silver platter had nothing to do with it?
Gingrich was the speaker that kept clinton in check and got the budget balanced.
Also – as far as moderates – when republicans run moderates they lose elections. When they run conservative they win.
Ronald Reagan – conservative – won 2 elections
George W bush – conservative – won 2 elections
George Bush Senior – moderate – lost second election (first one he won because he effectively won reagan’s third term)
Mcain – moderate – lost
Dole – moderate – lost
Gingrich has clear conservative ideas and puts the media in their place.
November 18, 2011 12:04 am at 12:04 am #827197EzratHashemMemberThe focus can only be on the economy so long as there is no major security threat. Remember how fast the focus on #1 priority changed on 9/11?? Overnight.
November 18, 2011 4:47 am at 4:47 am #827198musicaldignityMemberI liked Gingrich from the beginning. He is easily the most intelligent and capable of all those who stand on the debate stages. He has a very blunt sense of humor and I am not sure if he is personable enough to be president but time will tell. As for his baggage, his personal life I dont think will be too detrimental since people right now just want a capable guy. clinton also had a crazy background but he was elected anyway because he did the job. It might be a problem however if its brought out that he is unreliable like many reports now are saying. Ill be very interested to see how he handles himself in the next debate. I cant imagine him ever getting rattled, and I cannot imagine anyone on that stage starting up with him. Time will tell.
