The other day I was talking with my friend about the lack of understanding and communication between today’s parents and children because of the so called “generation gap”. We were kind of speculating how it’s going to look between tomorrow’s parents (today’s children) and their kids, and things started sounding a little ugly. Especially considering the fact that the generation gap is not the 20-25 years it used to be, rather every few years brings a whole new world for kids to see and a whole new set of hurdles that their parents have help them through.

Now this is where me and my friend had a difference of opinion. How many years (approximately) do you think it is today from one generation to the next?

Adam and Chava had a real gap with their kids.

    Same for all subsequent parents.

Maybe Ha-Shem designed it that way.

And our world has been rapidly changing (pre and post internet; pre and post outlawing of job discrimination, etc.) so that parents often grew up in a very different world than their kids.

I heard from Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky zt”l that in today’s world, (That would mean at least 30 years ago already) hiskatnus hadoros is detectable in 4 year cycles.
