June 28, 2009 9:14 pm at 9:14 pm #679719kapustaParticipantI decided if there was no real action here than I would make some action! I just need a brainstorm on how to do that. Any ideas?
Where is everyone anyway? Did everyone get so depressed when I wasnt really posting that they decided to leave the CR for good? 😉
June 29, 2009 12:55 am at 12:55 am #679720mepalMemberer, sort of, kapusta! What happened to you the past couple of days? With the ‘regulars’ on vacation, and you disappearing it was kinda’ boring!

June 29, 2009 1:24 am at 1:24 am #679722kapustaParticipantI was a little (make that a lot) out of it last week. I hope everything is well and I can return full force this week!

June 29, 2009 1:42 am at 1:42 am #679724mepalMemberSo glad to hear, kapusta! Was it start-of-a-new-job-in-a-new-place-blues?
Cuz if you would’ve told us when you were starting your new job, I would’ve given you some erev-beginning-a-new-job advice! That should’ve made it easier for ya!

June 30, 2009 12:45 am at 12:45 am #679731kapustaParticipantmepal, I started last week, wasnt really blues, just a crazy place in the beginning. I had to have it fixed up a little. (If I knew you in real life I would tell you, too long and complicated for the CR, in the meantime, you could ask the nurse ;))
btw, I’m not accusing anyone, but somehow I have a feeling that a new member in the last week is really one of the regulars, I’m not saying who it is, who I’m pretty sure it is, which thread they posted it on, and the reasons (plural) why I think that. Has anyone else noticed it? I dont think I’m crazy here.
June 30, 2009 10:07 am at 10:07 am #679732yossi z.Memberthis would be legit espionage (NOT like the thread) maybe you should share it with the mods (even if they do know if you are concerned enough it might get something to happen but then again maybe just by discussing it will also)
June 30, 2009 3:13 pm at 3:13 pm #679733mepalMemberkapusta, glad to hear it all worked out! Its not easy in the beginning, anywhere!
And yes, it would be really nice knowing each other in real life (dont worry, kidnapping is not my primary job. I only do it on the side, when I have some spare time 😉 ) so I get to hear the queens WHOLE story. In the meantime, it just gotta be a cyberspace relationship 🙁
July 1, 2009 3:08 am at 3:08 am #679734kapustaParticipantumm, too long and too complicated. Your welcome to ask the nurse, she knows the whole story. You could too if you would introduce yourself the next time I meet you. 😉
July 1, 2009 2:11 pm at 2:11 pm #679735mepalMemberNP, I’ll walk around and ask every girl your description, “Are you queen kapusta?”. Just warning you in advance 😉
BTW, would you know if the.nurse needs to do interning or something similiar to get her degree? (Her internet’s STILL not working? We miss her!)
July 1, 2009 10:16 pm at 10:16 pm #679736kapustaParticipantmepal, fine. What description do you have of me? I know basically what I said about myself, but little things can also give me away. I once said what phone I have. etc.
She graduated but she has to take her state boards before shes certified. I just texted her and she wrote back? really? who? (she needs lots of love and friendship, all these people with limited brainpower do. 😉 ) she also said she would come on tonight. (right, totally)
July 1, 2009 11:15 pm at 11:15 pm #679737mepalMemberBut does she need INTERNING before she’s certified? (I just want to know if you need to do internship before becoming a nurse. Get it?)
Oh, and you know what I thought? It would be real easy finding you. I wouldn’t even have to check what kind of phone you have. I’ll just look for someone walking down the streets with a crown on her head!
Also, tell the.nurse that we’re all very excited to see her and really hope she fulfills her commitment!
July 1, 2009 11:23 pm at 11:23 pm #679738kapustaParticipantI think she did already.
Not everyone can see my crown, only really special people can. Are you one of them? 😉
Just did!
July 1, 2009 11:27 pm at 11:27 pm #679739mepalMemberYes! I have special eyes AND cool glasses!
July 1, 2009 11:42 pm at 11:42 pm #679740the.nurseMemberso im back. BH my internet is back up.. long story (virus wiped out our whole comp system etc) but hopefully its here to stay now.
mepal, no i dont need to do interning. part of being in nursing school is doing actual clinical work. i started it about 3wks into school, and we were in the hospital as student nurses throughout my 2 years. so its a little different than med school where you do your interning after learning for 4yrs or whatever. by us, we practice on the patients as we are learning! 🙂 just kidding, our clinical instructor is there with us throughout.
though i have to admit the first time i gave a patient an injection i was shaking in my boots and the guy was just sitting there calmly like he was on the beach. it was pretty hysterical. (though i must say i did a good job! no complaint from him!)
July 1, 2009 11:44 pm at 11:44 pm #679741the.nurseMemberoh yeah, and kapusta does need some cheering up. its called ‘starting a job that you can’t stand cuz its extremely boring and you work with weird people.’ its not a well known syndrome but she’s got it. kapusta is unique of course lol (who else walks down the street with a crown?)
July 2, 2009 12:07 am at 12:07 am #679742mepalMemberCool! I get what I want SO fast!
Hiiiiiii nurse! Thanks for clarifying about the interning.
So interesting. I was getting this feeling that kapusta was just not acting her regular cheerful self. I just didn’t want to confront her ;). Now I know…
Kapusta, if your job is just for two months, then really, dont make yourself nuts. Stick it out and treat yourself to ice cream on your way home from work every day!
Stick around nurse! We like your company!
July 2, 2009 1:05 am at 1:05 am #679743kapustaParticipantnurse, thank you for making up stories. well, a little made up anyway, I spoke to the weirder of the “you-know-whos” who I found out is missing some teeth. thank you.
mepal, EXCUSE ME, you know what they always say that someone always has it worse than you? Well I was all depressed until I started giving the weather to the nurse (who thankfully had her computer fixed) and got to talk to her every day. 😉
about my job, I really want to leave for August, I never really got a break from school and I want to go away a little. yada yada…
more later maybe
July 2, 2009 1:20 am at 1:20 am #679744the.nurseMembermepal, what kapusta needs are some jalapeno chips, and presto! she’s like new. i am accepting donations. you can send them to the the.nurse, c/o the CR.
July 2, 2009 2:34 am at 2:34 am #679745the.nurseMemberanyone know the correct way to remove a tick? we have deer where i live and high risk of getting ticks.
July 2, 2009 12:32 pm at 12:32 pm #679747kapustaParticipantnurse, one way of not getting in a ticks in the first place is to listen to me and come here when I tell you too. Not that it does me much good…
July 2, 2009 1:21 pm at 1:21 pm #679748mepalMemberWait a second. You’re sure you’re a nurse? Why dont you know these things? How about calling Hatzoloh? simple solution.
Nurse, you see? It was all worth it (your come-back). Now instead of getting tons of texts from the queen, you’ll be able to converse right here!
Kapusta, I feel a bit 747ed. The nurse has it worse than you? Or did I totally miss it?
About your job, know, that it is VERY hard to land on a good job, where you are treated like a person, where you have normal company, where you get a half decent salary, where you have access to the CR without other people seeing your computer screen, where it is convenient for you…. Get the point? There are always things that wont work out at work. You just have to weigh the pro’s and cons. At least you know you’re getting experience without being committed to the job forever. This way, when you go out for your next interview :(, you’ll know exactly what to ask the interviewer about the job. You’ll know exactly what you want and what to look out for when deciding on a new job.
Hope this helped. Also, something good to know, when you leave your job at five, leave it all there. Whatever happened, happened. Dont ruin the rest of your night, its not worth it! Believe me…
Feel better!
July 2, 2009 2:40 pm at 2:40 pm #679749anonymisssParticipantIf you have a tick, speak to your doctor! It needs to be removed ASAP by the head. Some doctors will prescribe antibiotics and some will want to have the tick tested to see if it’s a carrier. Either way, keep a close watch on the area of skin. Any redness or swelling should be immediately reported. The sooner Lyme disease is treated, the better off you are.
Good luck!

July 2, 2009 4:00 pm at 4:00 pm #679750the.nurseMembermepal,
yea im sure im a nurse 🙂 well almost, at least (after i pass my boards). i did actually learn about tick removal but its one of the zillion things we learnt and it didnt really stick into my head. i kindve focused more on things like heart failure, kidney problems etc. i just figured if anyone knows off the top of their head they could tell me. truth is, i could probably just google it 🙂
July 2, 2009 4:40 pm at 4:40 pm #679751squeakParticipantEasiest way to remove a tick is to douse the spot with oil (such as baby oil) to loosen its grip and then gently pick it off with a tweezer. If less than the whole thing comes off you’d better get it looked at right away.
July 2, 2009 4:43 pm at 4:43 pm #679752mepalMemberExcused! Fine, I’ll let you give me a blood test next time 😉
Pass over regards to the queen!
July 2, 2009 5:21 pm at 5:21 pm #679753I can only tryMemberHow To Remove A Tick – Overview
(cut-and-pasted from the webmd web site)
Most ticks do not carry diseases, and most tick bites do not cause serious health problems. But it is important to remove a tick as soon as you find it. Removing the tick completely may help you avoid diseases such as Lyme disease that the tick may pass on during feeding, or a skin infection where it bit you.
When you return home from areas where ticks might live, carefully examine your skin and scalp for ticks. Check your pets, too.
How to remove a tick
Use fine-tipped tweezers to remove a tick. If you don’t have tweezers, put on gloves or cover your hands with tissue paper, then use your fingers. Do not handle the tick with bare hands.
Grab the tick as close to its mouth (the part that is stuck in your skin) as you can. The body of the tick will be above your skin.
Do not grab the tick around its bloated belly. You could push infected fluid from the tick into your body if you squeeze it.
Gently pull the tick straight out until its mouth lets go of your skin. Do not twist or “unscrew” the tick. This may separate the tick’s head from its body and leave parts of its mouth in your skin.
Do not discard the tick! Put the tick in a jar filled with rubbing alcohol and save it for later identification if necessary.
After the tick has been removed, wash the area of the tick bite with a lot of warm water and soap. A mild dishwashing soap, such as Ivory, works well. Be sure to wash your hands well with soap and water also.
NOTE: If you cannot remove a tick, call your doctor.
You can use an antibiotic ointment, such as polymyxin B sulfate (for example, Polysporin) or bacitracin. Put a little bit of ointment on the wound. The ointment will keep the wound from sticking to a bandage. If you get a skin rash or itching under the bandage, stop using the ointment. The rash may mean you had an allergic reaction to the ointment.
Some ticks are so small it is hard to see them. This makes it hard to tell if you have removed the tick’s head. If you do not see any obvious parts of the tick’s head where it bit you, assume you have removed the entire tick, but watch for symptoms of a skin infection. Symptoms of infection may include:
Pain, swelling, redness, or warmth around the area.
Red streaks leading from the area.
Pus draining from the area.
Swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpit, or groin.
Fever or chills.
If you have a rash, headache, joint pain, fever, or flu-like symptoms, this could mean you have an illness related to a tick bite. If you have any of these symptoms, or symptoms of a skin infection, call your doctor.
What to avoid
Do not try to:
Smother a tick that is stuck to your skin with petroleum jelly, nail polish, gasoline, or rubbing alcohol.
Burn the tick while it is stuck to your skin.
Smothering or burning a tick could make it release fluid-which could be infected-into your body and increase your chance of infection.
There are some tick-removal devices that you can buy. If you are active outdoors in areas where there are a lot of ticks, you may want to consider buying such a device.

the next time I see you, I’ll check for info on tick removal sticking to her shoulder. 😉
mepal, just make sure you’re all paid up on your health insurance. jk just so happens, the nurse studied her brains out. (see last comment for more info. 😉 )
um, nurse, so wheres my regards? you didnt text me the entire day! hard to believe!

kapusta: hey stop being mean. i only sent you a mill one word texts one nite. keep this going and i might do it again.. 🙂
July 3, 2009 1:29 am at 1:29 am #679757mepalMembernurse! <gasp> Dont tell me….
After all that you didn’t even tell her?! 😉
July 3, 2009 2:10 am at 2:10 am #679758mepalMemberSo kapusta, how was your day at work today?
July 3, 2009 2:41 am at 2:41 am #679759kapustaParticipantgood. the work isnt so terrible, more the environment. (talk to the nurse for more info. ;)) but I didnt even get a chance to check YWN and the CR which I usually check at least once a day.
July 3, 2009 2:56 am at 2:56 am #679760mepalMemberI can definitely understand you regarding the environment. Where I work, I can find at least one reason to send each of my employees to the shrink. Seriously. Besides for two. One quit last week and the other, well today was her last day cuz she’s getting married. That leaves me alone with a bunch of loonies. And the CR, thank goodness!
If I am wrong, and you mean that the environment is too much to the left for you, well a teacher of mine gave some sound advice in order not to get influenced. As soon as you begin working in a new environment, make a list of all the things that stick out and seem to you as wrong. (which they probably are) Keep the list handy and constantly check it every so often. See what happens. It works!
Are you able to check the CR on your lunch break?
July 3, 2009 3:18 am at 3:18 am #679761kapustaParticipantIts really what you said about the environment. The biggest issue was fixed. Cant really go into more detail here. Sorry. :/
No official lunch break, but the good thing is the boss is not so into times and whatever. More like get your work done and text, talk on the phone, eat lunch, whatever, just do your work.
Thanx for the tip.
July 3, 2009 3:24 am at 3:24 am #679762the.nurseMembersorry mepal 🙁 please forgive. busy day at work
July 3, 2009 3:34 am at 3:34 am #679763mepalMemberkapusta, hope it all works out well in the end! Its a good thing the environment is chilled over there and that its working out now.
nurse, that was strike one. 😉
jk, really happy you were busy. It makes me so sad to hear my fellow ‘chatters’ when they complain that they’re bored at work (with the economy bad and all). Believe me, being in the medical field is really good because even if the economy is bad, people still need their doctors and nurses!
