jax: do you have a different keyboard ’cause in mine the “p” is not next to the “t” 🙂 (we learnt it in two, four hour classes, and yes, there is more)
June 7, 2009 5:16 am at 5:16 am #679454JaxMemberyossi z.: LOL! my bad yeah EMT!
June 7, 2009 2:41 pm at 2:41 pm #679455mepalMemberkapusta, you too? by me it was only once a week, thankfully. The teacher ‘spiced it up’ with tons of stories and it did take a while to quiet us down so she could actually teach something. When you’re just being taught what has to be taught and you dont add in unnecessary stories, and everyone actually behaves and listens, I can understand how you can do it that fast!
Hatzlocha, yossi, on your course!
June 7, 2009 2:51 pm at 2:51 pm #679456kapustaParticipantmepal, it was only twice a week but it was supposed to be a health course that included first aid. (I think 😉 )
June 7, 2009 3:11 pm at 3:11 pm #679457mepalMemberOh. btw, hi and shavuah tov 😉
We had one subject called nutrition taught by one teacher (once a week) and actual CPR taught by another teacher, also once a week. We were tested in CPR and we got the certification from the state. Are you getting it?
June 7, 2009 3:24 pm at 3:24 pm #679458kapustaParticipantOh. btw, hi and shavuah tov 😉 repeat by kapusta 🙂
I had nutrition as a completely seperate project, we took CPR but getting certified was a separate thing that only some people did. I never bothered because I had no plans to use it.
June 7, 2009 3:53 pm at 3:53 pm #679459mepalMemberGr8! I think the mods will like that better 😉
The certification only lasts a year anyways, then you have to take another test to re certify. We were’nt given an option whether or not we wanted to certify. They made everyone do it. Whatever.
Btw, I imagine you get a ‘good luck on finals!’ now? Its the season, no?
June 7, 2009 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm #679460kapustaParticipant🙂
Thats exactly what I thought, I took it also in eighth grade, (no option to be certified or not) and I thought it was a waste of time. (and it was during finals season so I considered the usage compared to really getting out early and it lost. big time 🙂
you got the season right, a few down. thanx! 🙂
June 7, 2009 4:54 pm at 4:54 pm #679461mepalMemberGood for you! Lots Of Luck! (that’s what lol stands for these days!)
Btw, if you need tips for your english regent, I’m offering free! signing off now, so if u interested, lemme know. maybe I’ll share some tomorrow.
June 7, 2009 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm #679462kapustaParticipantmepal, I’ll take what you have. (unless you would prefer to do it over pizza tonight 😉 )
June 7, 2009 8:39 pm at 8:39 pm #679463kapustaParticipantAOB, I would imagine you’re studying for finals, but when you return, 1. welcome back, 2. good luck, 3. whatever happened with that summer job?
June 7, 2009 9:54 pm at 9:54 pm #679464an open bookParticipantkapusta: ha it’s cute how you think i’m off studying now 😉 i’m here, on & off today. thanks, good luck to you too
about the job, i won’t know for a while, & it’s for second half.
June 7, 2009 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm #679465kapustaParticipantAOB, arent you studious? I always thought you were/are… thanx, and good luck with it (both its really)
June 8, 2009 12:41 am at 12:41 am #679466an open bookParticipantkapusta: i’m not naturally studious, i only work hard when i have reason to. for school, basically the only reason i care at all is college & scholarships 🙂 through 8th grade i never stressed about schoolwork, tests, or finals at all, because i knew it didn’t matter how i did anyway.
June 8, 2009 12:57 am at 12:57 am #679467June 8, 2009 2:29 am at 2:29 am #679468an open bookParticipantman, it’s so annoying that my post explaining all this last week got deleted 🙁
kapusta: i’m not quite as focused on seminary as the rest of the world.
also, i don’t really have plans for anything yet. i’m only <insert you know what number here>!
June 8, 2009 5:10 am at 5:10 am #679469kapustaParticipantAOB, are you planning on a good college, or something like touro(I’m not trying to put down touro here)? and btw, _ is not really too early.
June 8, 2009 5:21 am at 5:21 am #679470JaxMemberaob & kapusta: hatzlacha rabbah this week on tests & finals!
June 8, 2009 2:01 pm at 2:01 pm #679471RBleSSingSMemberAn open book,
Not all of us out there are Seminary minded, I myself didn’t do Seminary, How about Open Uni where you’re studying in the comfort of your own home?
Thats where i earned my degree, and trust me business is flourishing, Criminologist!
June 8, 2009 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #679472mepalMemberkapusta, here goes. Let me know if it helps at all:
Lesson 1
We’ll start with Part 4 of the English regent. You are given a quote and are expected to agree or disagree with it. Then you are to bring two literary works to prove your point. If you look at old regents, you will find that many quotes speak about similiar themes. Read the quote and find the theme. Most of them are pretty similiar. The basic themes they ask about are (but not limited to):
A. rich exploiting the poor
B. greed dehumanizes
C. power destroys. Absolute power destroys absolutely
I’m sure you’ve learnt others in school. My suggestion is, you take two books you know really well (a third just to be on the safe side) and find the themes in those books. Certain books are full of themes and are very good to use. For example, did you read the book, ‘The Pearl’? If you have, then you will realize that the book is ladden with themes. It is much easier dealing with that part of the test if you know specific books you will be using. This way, you can memorize certain parts which will give you extra points, like the author, specific charactors…
Go through old regents, read the quote they give you and see if you can use those books to answer the question.
Hope this made the slightest sense to you!
k, now back to my pizza…
June 8, 2009 7:43 pm at 7:43 pm #679473areivimzehlazehParticipantnooooo- is there such a thing as espionage at your own shabbos table?
Part of a discussion was Task 4 on the English regent
June 8, 2009 9:55 pm at 9:55 pm #679474mepalMemberSo areivim, what do YOU have to share?!
btw, did you have any guest for shabbos? Maybe I was there and I just didn’t know it was you 😉
June 8, 2009 9:58 pm at 9:58 pm #679475kapustaParticipantmepal, thanx. and to think I could’ve condensed four years of english into one minute now… a real shame. and btw, it makes perfect sense, now pass the pizza 🙂
areivim, so what did they say?
June 8, 2009 10:07 pm at 10:07 pm #679476mepalMemberenjoy the pizza!! gnight!
June 8, 2009 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm #679478an open bookParticipantthanks, jax.
rblessings: thanks, but i’m not against seminary, just not worrying about it. not even really thinking about it except that it came up here.
kapusta: probably good, but really i don’t know. seriously, a couple years ago did you know what you were gonna do?
June 8, 2009 10:27 pm at 10:27 pm #679480kapustaParticipantAOB, honestly, I probably did, just because my parents always told me I would have to go to college, so I just picked out the thing I had the most interest in (not too many options) and thats probably what I’ll actually do now.
Going to a good college is a different story, good luck with that. Do you know what you want to go into? (I’m not asking you to tell me, just if you have an idea)
June 9, 2009 12:07 am at 12:07 am #679481an open bookParticipantkapusta: (sorry a bit out of order here) i have an idea, but i’ve seen how often people have all these plans & ideas & then change their mind when they get there. so i don’t really advertise to everyone what i think i want to do. in my father’s yearbook it mentions what he was planning to do, & he does something totally different – it’s kinda funny actually. but i don’t really want to go around enthusiastically telling the whole world about how i’m gonna do xyz & then do something entirely different.
about the good college, thanks. i wouldn’t just go with the easiest & simplest one, but it’s not like i would feel like a failure if situations changed & i didn’t go to the best one available. right now i just want to do as well as i can in school so that later i’m not regretting my stupid irresponsible teenage decisions that might affect what i want, ya know?
(hey was this all clear & understandable? my long posts can get kinda weird sometimes 🙁 sorry)
June 9, 2009 2:05 am at 2:05 am #679482kapustaParticipantAOB, thats true, but people generally have a basic idea of what they’re good at, and what they have an interest in. no?
About the college, thats a very safe attitude, are you a hard worker? you seem like it. 🙂
all clear on this end!
June 9, 2009 2:14 am at 2:14 am #679483kapustaParticipantEveryone:
check out my DT. I wasnt up there, I was a good girl, (typical me ;)) and did a favor for 72!
June 9, 2009 2:34 am at 2:34 am #679484an open bookParticipantkapusta: yeah, but people can be very idealistic, especially in high school. also, some people have multiple interests & abilities. & there are a few things i can do & enjoy, but at this point i can only think of one that i wouldn’t go crazy doing day in & day out.
a hard worker? only when i feel there’s a reason to be one. otherwise i’m realllly lazy 😉 you notice i’m here, not getting stuff done?
June 9, 2009 3:43 am at 3:43 am #679485mepalMembernice DT, kapusta!
Happy studying! (if you can do that, that is)

June 9, 2009 12:59 pm at 12:59 pm #679489mepalMemberames, so how are you feeling on this beautifully, rainy day?
June 9, 2009 1:04 pm at 1:04 pm #679490mepalMemberso kapusta, you ready (as in, interested;)) in Lesson 2?
If everything I wrote is old news to you (which in a sense, I hope it is!) then let me know. I would’nt want to type out the whole shpiel for no constructive purpose.
btw, C. power destroys. Absolute power destroys absolutely I believe the word is corrupts-not destroys. Once someone gets into a position of power (or money, in The Pearl.) they become corrupted. Know what I mean or shall I ellaborate?
June 9, 2009 6:11 pm at 6:11 pm #679491mepalMemberJax, where do you get your updates from?!
June 9, 2009 7:49 pm at 7:49 pm #679493kapustaParticipantJax, check again! sunny as anything now! (and dry!) 🙂
mepal, yes. I wish you woulda taught me, instead of someone… anyone…
June 9, 2009 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm #679494mepalMemberkapusta, will post Lesson 2 a bit later today.
June 9, 2009 8:59 pm at 8:59 pm #679495kapustaParticipantJune 9, 2009 9:40 pm at 9:40 pm #679496areivimzehlazehParticipantsqueak (from the Life Ins thread- that spiraled into my age)
You’re pulling my leg that you figured it out. For curiosity’s sake, answer this: did you think younger or older?
June 9, 2009 10:17 pm at 10:17 pm #679497mepalMemberOK, here goes:
Lesson 2
Part 3:
In part three, you are given two literary works and are expeced to agree or disagree with what you’re told (in the ‘your task’ box) and to prove what you are saying using literary elements.
After reading the topic you will be discussing (from the ‘your task’ box) make sure that when you read the given passages, you have that topic primarily on your mind. This way, you can fish out what is important to know and what is superfluous. Once you decide whether you are going to agree/disagree, try to find any literary element that can help ‘back you up’. I’m not a pro at literary elements (especially years after I really had to know them) but you can use simple elements, like setting, plot, irony, foreshadow (hey! I surprised myself with how much I know!)ONLY if it supports what you are trying to prove. And that’s basically it!
Make sure you understand the passages before writing your essay. More important to know what you’re talking about than writing a long essay that makes no sense. Read it two or three times (s-l-o-w-l-y if you can;)) or whatever it takes for you to get it.
rrrrrrrrrrring goes the bell! Dismissed!
Oh, and in case you thought you would be honored with my company tomorrow morn (1 A.M.) sorry. Not tonight-looong day at work today!
btw, I celebrated with pizza today. We had a party at work. The only problem was, there were forks…..BUT NO KNIVES!
June 9, 2009 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #679498kapustaParticipantthanx, buddy. I appreciate this.
I was hoping for your company, and isn’t the CR a place to wind down?
What was the celebration? After your pizza, try a real celebration, and have some kapusta. but you gotta restock the knives.
