I did not say the Chavas Yair talks about the host case but a chumra like gebrochts is not obligatory on the children therefore this chumra is not set in stone and can be set aside for ben adam lechavero not to show off being more religious than the host.

Again, it’s not merely a chumra, it’s a minhag and goes into the category which the חות יאיר says may not be abandoned. I did not make this up, that’s what R Moshe writes, and is accepted psak.

DY, what is the difference between kitniyos and gebrochts that the last day it is mutar? I saw from the Chidah to differentiate between a chumra and an issar.

Which is a minhag and which is issur?

As far as I know, they both have their origins as minhag (although it’s assur to break a minhag).

DY, according to you we must say, for some reason, they took gebrochts on themselves originally on the condition to be mutar the last day.

The Chasan Sofer has a nice interpretaton on the gemora שלחו מתם הזהרו במנהג אבותיכם watch for minhagim because maybe the heavenly kingdom will institute ch’v a bad decree, the minhag of our fathers will be able to abolish it.

Reb Eliezer, your YW gebroks link was duly noted, and there seemed to be controversy re: Rav Kaminetzky’s psak. I think society has tied itself up in so many knots its insane. If they’d tie themselves as much in knots over matters such as careless driving, conspicuous consumption, and thoughtlessness, as they do over these things, how different society would be. There are those who abstain from potato-starch and coffee and who knows what else. At this rate, they’ll soon be headed toward exclusively homemade matza, homemade grape-juice, water, salt, chicken, ersatz-fish, eggs, horseradish, nuts, potatoes, romaine. And nothing else, not even sugar, because some tzaddik or other will find something non-kosher about it. Well, to call a spade a spade, all i can say is holocaust victims lived on less!

    Yes, I don’t think that’s a chiddush.
