I had heard that a similar story happened amongst the Belz community in Yerushalayim.

The Story story goes like this:

    Boy wants to marry girl.

Girl’s family has boy over for a shabbos meal (with girl not at meal).

Mother not happy with the way the boy eats, tells girl not to marry him.

Boy and girl get married to other people, each have kids.

Later on both boy and girl divorce, eventually marry each other.

Kid from boy’s original marriage then marries kid for girl’s first marriage.

(Belz later forbids bringing over potential shidduchs for shabbos meals, seriously)

I heard this from a family with a REAL connection connection to Belz and the Rebbe.

Joseph, actually I know one definitely had a parent who died but I think they both did.

I am honestly not sure how they walked down though.

ames, both kids were from first marriages.

oomis, i also know a widow and a widower whose kids got married. a year or so later, they got married to each other. the younger couple used to laugh how they never had any arguments about where they were going for yom tov.

I didn’t go on for a while but I wanted to clarify a few things.

The story of the girl getting redt to her brother…

She is one of 18 and had a brother dating at the same time as her. She has a very common last name (her husband has the same last name as her maiden name). A shadchan called her mother and said I have a boy for your daughter, she says the last name and where they live. The mother was like that’s funny cuz I checked out all the whatever’s in that area. Somehow they realized that it was her brother.

I have a story that’s a bit funny but also shows the hashgacha of Hashem. Someone who lived quite far from me (Canada) was suggested. It was difficult for me to travel then since I ha just started grad school and he also was unable to travel at that time. We never found out info about the other just that distance wouldn’t work then.

Fast forward 2 1/2 years, someone else suggests a Canadian to me. This time we both went for it. When we got engaged, the first person told me that’s who she wanted to set me up with.

Dr Pepper, its the fumes from the chemicals 🙂

I grew up with her (we went to elementary school together) but different high schools. We arent close. I would feel strange calling her up after all these years to say “Who walked you down?”

    #1226496

I once heard about a guy who took a girl to the same restaurant on 2 different dates. The non-jewish waiter recognized them and asked “hey are you 2 engaged yet?” After an awkward moment of silence he says, “come on! go for it!”

The guy in the tollbooth says, “Oh it’s you again”?

That one doesn’t work anymore because of E-Z Pass. Oh well, nothing is all good.

My sister had a friend who went out on a date with a guy and they went to a lounge. The guy excused himself to use the bathrom. A waiteress came over to the girl and told her “don’t trust him, every time i see him he is with a diffrent girl”.

It’s intresting to see shidduch dating from the non jewish point of view.

    We were waiting to cross a busy street in Manhattan and a guy semi-dressed-up walks over to us. I don’t remember exactly what his words were, but I gave him a few bucks and he started singing. Although at first I was a bit uncomfortable about it, I got to enjoy it. I hope she didn’t feel to awkward by the whole thing.;

I had a girl start singing in the car on the way home from a date!

    We did not get engaged.

lammed hey: that is really sad that a girl would start singing on a date. It should have been ingrained in her that you dont sing in front of men. smart choice that you didnt get engaged cuz the fact that she started singing on a date shows that she regularly is not careful to sing in front of men (and may even imply that she does it oftan). It makes me so upset that ppl are so careless about singing in front of men and make up all these heterim that they could (like if they are in a group… its NOT TRUE!)

I know where the line is from. As I’ve made clear all over the CR, I am a big fan of Abie R. You’re not going to be able to trip me up on any of his stuff.

a few weeks later the same girl goes on a date with a different guy!!! his car too brakes down & he calls AAA!!! the AAA guy sees the date & says wow you two again!!! she turns purple & he’s all confused!!!

Before my wife and I started dating, she went out with two guys. The first had the same first name as me, and the second one’s name was my middle name. We joke that she combined the two and got me.

LOL! I know this is off topic, but related to your post – I was at a kiddush one Shabbos and I was listening to a conversation next to me about the whole calendar thingie (leap second, leap day) that had just been discussed in the CR a few days before. They were really going back and forth, but not one person mentioned that their information came from the CR! And a good bit from my own little posts!

I did not participate in the conversation because I didn’t want to give away who I am to complete strangers, but I chuckled!

Joseph once pointed out to me that you can do a search of the CR

    1. Go to Google

    2. Type into the search field site:theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom

    3. add whatever you want to search after entering the above text

HAHA okay, i just heard a new one.

this girl goes out on a first date, the guy, who’s been dating seriously for about a year, takes her to a hotel lobby.

after sitting down somewhere comfortable, he excuses himself to go to the bathroom…and while she’s waiting, a lady hotel employee rushes over to her and whispers “Honey, don’t trust this one. he comes in here with a different girl every time!!!!”

hee hee, funny to look at shidduch-dating from outsiders view!

I dont think i have ever said this before. Deja Vu. (I think its caused because you see it and it takes a split second for your mind to register it so you think you have seen it before, or something like that.) 🙂
