Do you do so? We know that according to halacha that we cannot address our friends(at least in our parents presence) with their name if they have the same name as your parent. I have been told that this is why some people say one should not address their father by “Abba” since there are people with that name. So my question is do you have friends with this name and still call your father Abba?

Abba is a name one can call their father, but it is not actually their father’s name. Its a problem when they have a friend named Chaim and their father’s name is chaim as well. Saying abba is ok cuz if you were calling your father, it would be ok to call him by that name

If your father’s name is Abba, you can call him Abba?

what does it matter if you have a friend called Abba?

Since your Fathers name is not Abba.

The question the Doc asked is an interesting one.

I would say if someones Father has Abba as a name. He should not call him Abba.

If your friend has the same name as your father (and they both only have one name), if you can’t call your friend by his name, what do you call him?
