I have a friend that was offered $150,000 for one of his kidney’s. He is a healthy, 26 year old man, and is considering attending a low ranked law school at full price. Considering the cost of tuition is similar to what he would receive for his kidney, would this be good form of “financial aid” for him to purse?
November 6, 2011 1:54 am at 1:54 am #824273popa_bar_abbaParticipantI would do it for 150k.

Pun intended?
November 6, 2011 1:55 am at 1:55 am #824276UnderstandMemberNot very legal, if I remeber correctly.
November 6, 2011 2:28 am at 2:28 am #824277aries2756ParticipantHow can he participate in an illegal act and then use the money to fund law school? There is something wrong with this picture. However if he is truly considering being a kidney donor he should contact RENEW.
November 6, 2011 4:39 am at 4:39 am #824278GM1MemberThis is totally illegal. When one donates a kidney, they are asked straight out(by the social worker)why they are donating, and if they are donaing to get any money out of it.
November 6, 2011 4:40 am at 4:40 am #824279BSDMemberI have some extra fat I’m willing to donate for a very good price. Any buyers?
November 6, 2011 7:03 am at 7:03 am #824280mewhoParticipanti know of a woman who donates 10 inches of her hair every so often.
its for women who have lost their hair from illnesses.
she doesnt get paid in dollars. she gets paid in mitzvos
November 6, 2011 10:29 am at 10:29 am #8242812scentsParticipantI believe that donating a kidney is slightly more significant than donating 10 inches of hair.
November 6, 2011 10:31 am at 10:31 am #8242822scentsParticipantRegarding the legal part, it could be that the transaction will happen somewhere out of the country.
However I personally wouldn’t do it, my kidney is more worth than 150k.
November 6, 2011 4:09 pm at 4:09 pm #824283GM1MemberThe great part about donating a kidney is that one can continue living a complete and healthy life with only one kidney afterwards. When going through the process of donating, there are abut 9 tests one undergoes to check compatibility and make sure he is 100% completely healthy. Along the way, they ask you your motivations in donating. Of course there is no price tag you can put on a kidney, however know that it is an amazing mitzvah and it is awesome to realize that you saved someones life!

Put it on the auction block and see what you can get for it.
November 6, 2011 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #8242852scentsParticipantI don’t value my kidney by what people are willing to offer.
If people offer five dollars for a pair of eyes does that mean that my eyes are only worth five dollars?
I don’t think money can be worth as much as a kidney.
November 6, 2011 7:58 pm at 7:58 pm #8242862scentsParticipantAlso, the claim that one can live the same with one kidney than with two. I don’t think is true. If Hashem yerachem gets cancer in ones kidney, They have a second one to spare. Not if they donated it.
However i do think that donating a kidney to another human being is a huge zechus and kiddush Hashem, yet I won’t do it.
November 6, 2011 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #824287Unfortunately there are some frum people doing time for such crime. It is 100% illegal and taking the chance is riskly. Perhaps he/she is really not your friend but wants you out of his/her way!!!!
Let this person get in touch with Renewal, an organization that helps people in need of a kidney and it is all l’shem mitzva. On one of the grant sites, it lists howmuch they get annually. So it is all government funded and no soliciting is really necessary.
