Do you live in a community where there are resources such as a community council or chessed organizations that might be able to give referrals?
Sadly, especially with all these big time scams and scammers out there, you have to assume that if something looks even remotely like a scam, it is one. And avoid anyone who asks for fees up front just to get started.
