Why do Flatbush people (between OP and Coney, and the E.20’s specifically) not walk in their neighborhoods after dark? BP is abuzz and Flatbush, although much more aesthetically pleasing, is spooky and dark. You cant feel secure when walking in the those areas, because no one else is on the street. All you see are passing cars, and not too many.

Perhaps it is because the men are in the beis medrash not the sushi bars?

OK, I give. Why? What is the punchline?

because all the chickens are crossing the roads to escape from the shochet

or because BP-ers roam our streets after dark

or because we go to sleep earlier than BP because we wake up earlier

or because all the simcha halls are in BP or Willi

this may seem a little krum but maybe its because F doesnt have a eiruv – so people do not know there neighbors as well…because shabbos is when you go outside and shmooz with your block – so no eiruv…less friends…less mingling

most people do not hold of it – bp everyone does

    #780412

There is a dearth of cholent parties in Flatbush.

    “bp everyone does”

Thats highly debatable. Nevertheless, I dont want this to digress to a discussion on the Eruv.

It is entirely possible that the reason is because the homes on the blocks mentioned by the OP are rather large and spacious inside with room for the various family members to do their own thing and have their own space. the homes in BP are not all that spacious and especially in warmer weather the last place you want to be is inside on top of everyone else.

You can do your own thing, but you cant take a walk inside your house.

The streets of Flatbush are empty after dark because The Wolf roams the streets, devouring all those who attempt to leave after darkness.

If the community had any guts, they’d do something about it to rid themselves of this plague in their midst.

Do you think that any men who might happen to be walking in Flatbush at night would subject themselves to a search to see if they had tzitzes or a bushy tail hanging below their shirt?

u people…oy…sometimes i just read, nd and *sigh*

As a F resident in the “ties” streets, I can say that it is true- its pretty quiet @ night; but its nice that way I think. There are busy areas like J, Cony, kings Hwy, Take-out stores (thursday Nights @ kold Kuts) but I will say this, after having lived in bp as well- there is NOTHING in comparison to what goes on…people walkin around @ 2,3,4,5AM like its in middleada day…:) but thats just bp!!:)

It’s quite in the streets of suburbia too, and people seem quite happy about that.

I already told you why. I go out at night and no one wants to risk being mauled to death.

If the community would get their act together to get rid of me, then people would go out again at night.

I agree! Whether the people walk or not, theyre def Mkomos Torah, full of top Yeshivos.

MiddlePath, perhaps you’d like to clarify why youre happy you live far away from BP/F.

    #780430

    The streets aren’t empty.

It’s just tougher to see the men at night with colored shirts.

Ofcourse, all I will say is I would not be comfortable living in Boro Park/ Flatbush. Therefore, I’m happy I don’t live there. I’m sorry, but I will not discuss particular reasons I wouldn’t be comfortable.

MiddlePath, without getting into details, BP/F are Yeshivish Torah-dik places, where people live typically Yeshivish Torah-dik lifestyles, infused with loads of Mitzvos and Chesed, with much more virtues than vices. All neighborhoods have their specific vices.

Interesting that youre comfortable on a Yeshivish Torah-dik website.

Maybe because BP is more crowded. Most houses are 3 family houses, while F is made up of mostly 1 family houses. Also, the frum community in BP seems to live in a smaller area of land while Flatbush is more spread out.

Interesting. I find that between OP and Coney Island, it is quiet all day long, not just at night.

maybe lots of men and boys are still learning at this time? at night is when most working women with children do their shopping and there are very few stores in teh 20’s and the teens, with exceptions of kings hwy, ave m, ave j,..among others. like someone else mentioned-bp and willi have many simcha halls. or maybe those ‘quiet area’ dwellers have kavod habriyos for those that are sleeping… the list goes on..

i think it’s because it’s dangerous, my parents wouldn’t let me walk down the block while it’s dark. As for cars- i always see tons, every hour of the night so i’m not sure when you’re referring to 🙂

It is. It’s very dangerous. The community should do something about it.

I’m pretty sure that OfCourse was referring to alcoholic beverages. I drink *very* little alcohol — to the point where I’ve never been drunk in my life (and I have no intention of ever doing so).

bro, i think it’s because it’s dangerous, my parents wouldn’t let me walk down the block while it’s dark.

And two or more adults taking a walk together is unsafe as well?

Do people not take walks in the evenings in the Five Towns and suburbia? If not, what a shame it is that people are living in these $1,000,000+ homes, in neighborhoods where theyre scared to walk around the block after dark. Wow.

The people in the Five Towns are not afraid to walk because they don’t have a Wolf in their midst. The people of Flatbush do. If they were a smart, organized community, they’d do something about it.

In BP they have to walk since there’s no place to park at night. Flatbush Midwood homes have driveways and easy stret parking.

They do have cars in BP. They also drive in BP. And they also sleep in BP. At night those cars are parked in BP.

Whadyu mean- OP is never empty after dark from my point of view.. Theres always Jewish Joggers, old ppl who sit and stare, parkers, ppl on ther cell phones.. I feel very secure to take a walk down OP at night (even though its probly not the smartest thing 2 do..)
