Is this still on for this year? I normally see all kinds of advertisements for it, but haven’t seen anything this year. Anyone know what’s up?

July 17, 2013 2:54 am at 2:54 am #966192rebdonielMemberThank you 🙂 I went to the program at YOB later in the afternoon to hear the shiurim.
July 17, 2013 3:33 am at 3:33 am #966193147Participantrebdoniel: After Tish b’Ov:- Did they serve refreshments this year? I was over by the program on Shiva Ossor b’Tamuz, and it was great, but it was simply too hot today to step outside without drinking due to the hear advisory for the North East.
July 17, 2013 4:41 am at 4:41 am #966194RABBAIMParticipantReb Doniel- Which drashos made a big impression?
July 17, 2013 5:34 am at 5:34 am #966195rebdonielMemberAs with years past, there was insufficient cake and soda and bottled water to accommodate everyone, I thought.
I enjoyed R’ Schachter’s drasha the best. Since I think of Tisha b’Av as a day of complete solemnity (for me, I feel closer to HKBH on this day than Rosh haShanah even), his thoughts were very pertinent, I felt.
I would have welcomed the opportunity to be there for Eicha on klaf (R’ Yona Reiss paskens that a bracha is made when this is done; I don’t know if the rabbanim at this event held that way). I didn’t get there until 4ish.
July 18, 2013 4:17 am at 4:17 am #966196RABBAIMParticipantWow! Even the Vilna Gaon who paskins that you make a Bracha on Esther, Shir Hashirim, Rus and Koheles if read from parchment says not to make a Bracha on Eicha.
July 18, 2013 4:16 pm at 4:16 pm #966197rebdonielMemberThose who do say “al mikra megillah” (the Magen Avraham, OC 490, mentions this) seem to derive it from Sofrim (14:1). The Mishna Berura says like the Gra that our practice is not to say that bracha. Eicha is more like a custom than an actual din (although Eicha is the only megilla, other than Esther, that Sephardim and some Chassidim read publicly). I did hear that the Levush was actually against Eicha on klaf, because he felt that this reflected an attitude of permanence, and instead, we should believe our galut will only be temporary, and there will soon be no need to recite Eicha (Ken yehi ratzon).
