Isn’t there an ayin hora to prepare the child’s needs in advance?
When asked, Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky said it is a ???? ???? not to prepare before the baby is born.

August 14, 2014 7:32 pm at 7:32 pm #1028774oomisParticipantWe are required to notice our OWN shortcomings 🙂
August 17, 2014 10:00 pm at 10:00 pm #1028776oyyoyyoyParticipantWaiting to find out the gender of the baby cause you like the surprise is silly, completely delayed gratification. Thats like never checking what color tie youre wearing for nine months and then you look in the moirror and say “cool! its red!”
August 18, 2014 2:53 pm at 2:53 pm #1028777notasheepMemberoyyoyyoy – have you ever been pregnant and then given birth? Cause I have, and I’ve never found out because I like the surprise. I don’t call it delayed gratification, because the feeling I get after giving birth and seeing whether it’s a boy or a girl is just amazing. It just completes the whole birth experience for me.

Talk about silly… that’s one of the silliest comparisons I’ve seen on this board.
First, of course, is the fact that I know what color tie I’m wearing because I chose it.
But, second, and far more important, is that most people have more an emotional investment in a baby than in what tie they’re wearing.
And third, delayed gratification is a good thing. 🙂

wolf, im honored. seriously.
First, of course, is the fact that I know what color tie I’m wearing because I chose it.
with your eyes closed? try it, tons more fun. (btw my original post was about undergarments but i think the mods werent so happy.)

and
notasheep- I don’t call it delayed gratification, because the feeling I get after giving birth and seeing whether it’s a boy or a girl is just amazing.
What i think both of you are saying is, regardless whether or not you believe delayed gratification makes sense, on a scale as large as this one its worth it. And my point is that either you believe delayed gratification is nonsense or you dont.
I beleive it is nonsense and Wolf doesnt.
August 18, 2014 10:48 pm at 10:48 pm #1028780MurphysLawMemberNot worth the bother finding out, It could be both, or half of each…
anyways, not worth getting to excited it can all go horribly wrong…

It doesn’t really matter what you believe or not, or what he believes. What maters is that for whatever the reason, silly or not, Wolf is happier not knowing until they’re born and oyyoyyoy isn’t. it’s just a matter of preference.
August 19, 2014 1:40 am at 1:40 am #1028782🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantI agree with notasheep. It’s a surprise worth waiting for. When you are in the throws of such intense, severe pain, it is nice to have something to ‘look forward to’ besides just an end to it all the contractions.
August 19, 2014 2:12 am at 2:12 am #1028783👑RebYidd23ParticipantSyag, most women say it’s the baby, not finding out the gender, that counts.
August 19, 2014 2:17 am at 2:17 am #1028784🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantIt is certainly the baby that counts, but focusing on the baby at that time is a bit painful. Focusing on the thrill of finding out the gender is a bit more bearable.

August 19, 2014 4:54 am at 4:54 am #1028785oyyoyyoyParticipantSyag, I’ll never give birth and id like to try understand what you mean.
It’s like a distraction type of thing? whats your position on delayed gratification?
Am i being crazy by harping on this delayed gratification? i just cant split the two.
