Please provide tips for fighting nausea. What are good foods to eat etc?
November 18, 2008 9:28 pm at 9:28 pm #625540SJSinNYCMemberI was so nauseous when I was pregnant (and it lasted for 30 weeks – the nausea, not the pregnancy). My doctor told me I was allowed to drink coke and boy did it help!! I had one 20 oz bottle a day.
Lots of water also helped, as did ginger and crackers. Ginger chicken is yummy!
November 18, 2008 9:32 pm at 9:32 pm #625541lgbgMembertry ginger ale
November 18, 2008 9:37 pm at 9:37 pm #625542NobodyMember150 replies down the line, you’ll still be getting every known and obscure remedy.
Everybody’s body is made up differently and no two remedies work alike.
If you’re suffering nausea for whatever reason, and you do not state why, please seek the advise of a physician. This is not the best or safest place to get medical advise.
Good luck and be well. refuah Shelaimah
I hope the moderators will close this thread as I would be concerned if anyone started following the advice that is bound to follow

November 18, 2008 9:59 pm at 9:59 pm #625545intellegentMemberNobody,
luv2hack got the reason at her first try! A woman thinks of that right away!
SJSinNYC,
Thanks for the encouragement! I really hope mine goes away earlier. Coke sounds good but no other soda tempts me. I do drink more water than I used to. My doctor told me I need to drink 3 liters a day but I don’t think I drank even half of that ever. It makes me feel horrible when I drink to much!
What about foods that should be avoided?
November 18, 2008 10:31 pm at 10:31 pm #625546SJSinNYCMemberThere are very few things to avoid. Soft unpastuerized cheeses (like Feta), sushi (or anything raw).
I recommend a website called babyfit.com – its all about being healthy while pregnant. They have areas for excersize, nutrition, your due date month (which is very helpful to have people to ask questions to). It was such a big help while I was pregnant. Now, the group of us that went through pregnancy together are still around talking about raising our kids. Lots of good stuff!! Especially because we are sleep training my son now and its so hard!!

November 18, 2008 10:40 pm at 10:40 pm #625548yoshiMemberMake sure you have plenty of fluids, and you don’t dehydrate. Dehydrating will make you more nauseous than you have to be. This may gross, but, try to stay away from foods that wouldn’t taste good coming back up.
I ate solid high carb type foods. Getting some fresh air can help a bit. Also sucking on candies or lollypops was good.
If your nausea gets sever, and the Dr. wants to prescribe Phenergan, ask for a prescription of Zofran. Zofran is safer than any other nausea medication when pregnant.
I couldn’t keep anything down for the first 5 months, unless I took Zofran- that was a miracle drug.
November 18, 2008 10:56 pm at 10:56 pm #625549bobthebuilderParticipantThe question is…will Joseph post on this thread?
(This is said in jest, no hard feelings).
November 18, 2008 11:14 pm at 11:14 pm #625550SJSinNYCMemberOoh, can I play Joseph?
Is it tznius for a women to announce her pregnancy over the internet? The rabbis have unanimously declared no.
[Joseph, just a joke :-)]
November 18, 2008 11:30 pm at 11:30 pm #625551illini07MemberA glass of club soda with a couple dashes of Angostura Bitters taken down will do wonders for an upset stomach.
November 19, 2008 12:15 am at 12:15 am #625552oomisParticipantGinger ale, cola in moderation (caffeine is really not great for the baby), saltine crackers, don’t stand up suddenly when you get out of bed, stay away from high-fat foods when you feelt he nausea and stick with carbs. Eat several small meals rather than three big ones. Keep hydrated, but don’t think you have to drink it all at one time. Sip throughout the day. You will feel better soon, B”EH, and hope all goes well and we hear besoros tovos. I would try to avoid taking any drugs, especially the first three months.
November 19, 2008 2:55 am at 2:55 am #625553yankdownunderMemberThe following in Tea Bag form (with a hechtsher) with Hashem`s help: Peppermint, Spearmint, Fennel, Annis, Slippery Elm Powder, Yogurt(preferably with p robotics). Go to a really good Health Food Store, and speak to the owner or Manager for suggestions. Contact a Nutritionist and ask them suggestions about changing your diet.
November 19, 2008 3:24 am at 3:24 am #625554oomisParticipantMint tea, ginger tea, and chamomile are all good, but ANY tea you drink should be okayed with the OB-GYN first. Just because something is a natural herb does not mean it is safe for a pregnant woman. medicines are made from herbs, and many herbs are toxic to a developing embryo.
November 19, 2008 3:44 am at 3:44 am #625555yankdownunderMemberTalk to a Midwife that knows something about diet and nutrition, and ask her what she might recommend to eat, and drink during pregnancy. You are right Ginger may not be good to use during pregnancy.

November 19, 2008 7:08 pm at 7:08 pm #625566LeiderLeider…ParticipantIntellegent. Long time no talk…
Assuming you have identified the cause of your nausea and medically ascertained that it’s not due to a health problem, then I recommend the following:
* Ginger (preferably in its original form. Nibble on raw ginger)
* Green Apples
I’ve had the (mis)fortune of being stuck on a cruise ship for several days in the midst of a hurricane. I was eating green apples like they were going out of style. It helped immensely.
Good luck!
November 19, 2008 8:34 pm at 8:34 pm #625567intellegentMemberEveryone, please stop worrying about why I’m nauseous! I appreciat your concern but there is nothing to be concerned about! LOL!

When did we speak…?
Green apples sounds good! I’m so in the mood of a good crunchy one right now! Anyone knows where I can get chutz la’aretz green apples sold in yerushalayim? (or any other fruits???)
November 19, 2008 8:35 pm at 8:35 pm #625568pearlMembergefilta fish – can you give a hint as to the name of the site that you are referring to?
November 20, 2008 12:07 am at 12:07 am #625569oomisParticipantSorry, I misunderstood. I thought someone had established that this was nausea due to pregnancy. As it is not, if you have persistent nausea (not the 24-48 hour stomach flu that is going around in droves), then you really need to speak with a reliable gastroenterologist. It still would help you to eat ginger or drink ginger-based soda or tea, and keep to a VERY light carb diet, light on protein and no fat. If it keeps up, don’t rely on the good advice of a bunch of well-intentioned strangers. CALL THE DOCTOR.
