So…let’s hear. Your favorite food/snack.
As for moi- major weakness for anything with cheese…
December 17, 2008 4:22 am at 4:22 am #639329AshreinuParticipantOh, what a difficult question!
Food for real, sit-down meals is healthy, wholesome and well-rounded meals with any combination of whole grains (Quinoa, Couscous, Brown rice etc.), any cooked veggie, fresh veggie or pea soup and a protein.
Best Ever is in the Dulce de Leche category:
Tiramisu
Rice Pudding
Yogurt
Good Milchig ice Cream
MILK CHOCOLATE!!!
In the pre-Cholov yisrael days – WOA! ‘aint nothin’ like a Reese’s or Starbucks Frappaccino Ice Cream. Nothing.
Actually, some Israeli and most Swiss Milk Chocolates comes pretty close.
Oish, the list goes on.
It’s important to remember though, “Are we living to eat or eating to live (and have the energy to serve Hashem better)?”

December 17, 2008 6:33 am at 6:33 am #639335yoshiMemberI LOVE food!!! Most of my favorites, are junkie type foods, like candy, chocolate, pizza, burgers, hotdogs, fries, pastries, chips, I don’t think I have the time to name them all 🙂
I try to keep my noshing to a minimum though, and make sure I’m getting proper amounts of vitamins, minerals, h2o, protein, fiber, fruits and veggies. But, I DO allow one “cheat” meal a week, and a little treat at night, as long as I’ve eaten well and did my exercise routine for that day. I’m hungry all the time, so fitting everything in, is a pretty easy task!
December 17, 2008 1:31 pm at 1:31 pm #639336oomisParticipantA really good steak tops the list (don’t eat that too often, though). In the dessert arena, a creamy, dense marble cheesecake (I make an outstanding one and it is my favorite), ANYTHING with milk chocolate. AND…. excellent fresh brewed coffee with half and half. The smell alone of challah baking, does it for me.
December 17, 2008 2:37 pm at 2:37 pm #639337myshadowMemberFunny I hate chocolate!!! But give me strawberry-banana smoothie and ceaser salad and I’m your best friend!!

December 18, 2008 7:02 pm at 7:02 pm #639369oomisParticipant“oomis1105, would you be willing to share your cheesecake recipe?”
With pleasure. I am one of those cooks who loves to share my recipes. Some people don’t but I figure if you like something I made enough to ask for the recipe, it’s a compliment. The cheesecake is only a tad more labor intensive than most recipes, but it is worth it, and it really is not so much extra work. Read recipe thoroughly before beginning.
Ingredients:
8 oz. package of chocolate chips
3/4 c flour plus 1/4 c flour
1 c plus 2 Tbs. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c butter
24 oz. bar type cream cheese (don’t use low-fat, you’re eating cheesecake, so enjoy it)
2 Tbs. vanilla
6 eggs, separated
1 c sour cream
Melt chocolate either in a double boiler or the microwave. Stir together 3/4 of the cup of flour, 2 Tbs. sugar, and salt. Add butter, plus 2 heaping Tbs. of melted chocolate. Make into a dough and press into the bottom of a greased springform pan. Bake at 400 degrees for about 10-15 minutes. Remove from oven. In a large bowl mix the cup of sugar and cheese. Add vanilla, remaining 1/4 c flour, egg yolks, and sour cream. Beat the whites up separately until fluffy, like for a sponge cake. Fold into the cheese batter. Remove 2 cups of the batter and fold in the remaining melted chocolate. Alternate spooning in dollops of chocolate batter and white batter into the pan. Take a knife and cut through the batters, to marbleize. Reduce oven to 300 degrees. Bake for about 1 hour, shut off the heat and leave it in the closed oven for another hour. Chill thoroughly before serving (I like to freeze it, it tastes like vanilla fudge ice cream).
December 18, 2008 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm #639370SJSinNYCMemberOomis, I was the kid who came home and BEGGED my mother to make brussel sprouts all the time LOL. She did 🙂 Now I serve them to my 10 month old and he loves them too! I’m indoctrinating him early.
Anon, the two ways I generally make it are:
1) Roasted with the chicken. You just put them in the bottom of a pan, add the chicken and then spice the chicken. Its not the healthiest because you get the chicken gravy all over it but its so yummy!
2) I steam them and then serve them with a mayonnaise/lemon juice/dill sauce.
Either way they fly off the table!!
Oh and I use bodek brussel sprouts because its impossible to check them! You can also buy them fresh and freeze them I think, but because I never took the time to learn the details, I just buy bodek.
December 18, 2008 7:45 pm at 7:45 pm #639371anon for thisParticipantYanky55, Edy’s cookie dough ice cream is better.
oomis1105, thanks for sharing the recipe.
SJS, I think I’ll try your second method.
