How likely do you think it is that there are people in the CR who are completely faking? Like, people who are claiming to be one gender when they are really another? Or Frum when they really aren’t (w/o getting into definitions of “Frum”)? Or making up life stories? Or lying about their professions, etc?
I’m assuming of course that anyone who thinks that there are fakers is probably one himself and vice versa, so you’d better be careful what you say 🙂
Personally, I am very honest, so I have trouble believing there are dishonest people in the world, but I am curious what others think.
November 3, 2016 2:47 am at 2:47 am #1196198zahavasdadParticipantTrolling is an accpeted part of the internet. Doesnt bother me at all
November 3, 2016 3:09 am at 3:09 am #1196199Little FroggieParticipantI am. I really (deep, deep down) am human. Not so little, but insignificant.
Also, I appear here to be intelligent, know what I’m talking about, which is generally not the case.
sorry for fooling all of you
November 3, 2016 3:35 am at 3:35 am #1196200Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantuh.. I think someone can pretend to be dumber than they are, but I’m not sure how you can pretend to be smarter than you are.
November 3, 2016 3:45 am at 3:45 am #1196201Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantand btw, I figured out that you were human.
November 3, 2016 5:03 am at 5:03 am #1196202👑RebYidd23ParticipantI sometimes pretend to be smarter than I am.

But is anyone convinced?
November 3, 2016 12:04 pm at 12:04 pm #1196204ubiquitinParticipant“How likely do you think it is that there are people in the CR who are completely faking? “
It is 100% certain. That is the ABC’s of the internet.
As Abraham Lincoln famously said “Dont believe everything you read online”
that goes doubly true for forums such as this. It surprises me that people are still unclear about this.
November 3, 2016 12:48 pm at 12:48 pm #1196205Mashiach AgentMemberi hate dishonesty & corruption and i’m one of the first ones to notice-in the coffeeroom & in real human life-when someone is lying. Thanks due to my profession in detective work, Psychology & being allergic to dishonesty & corruption.
How thankful i am to Hashem for helping me decide to take these courses. anyone that takes these courses, its impossible to not hate corruption & dishonesty, although to the rest of the world we know just how corrupt & dishonest the world is today (not just politicians but everyone & thats the sad part about it. i hate it so much to the point that im ashamed to be living in such a corrupt world, can you comfort me? why shouldn’t i be ashamed when my own jewish brothers are corrupt & make a chillul Hashem worldwide because of their dishonesty & corruption. we as yidden are a role model & should be better then the rest of the world)
may we all return & change our ways back to becoming honest righteous people again. now is a good time to start on the week of parshas noach when the entire world was destroyed because of corruption. May Hashem be with you all the way to righteous
November 3, 2016 3:22 pm at 3:22 pm #1196206flatbusherParticipantI suspect there are fakers but from anecdotal evidence, it seems more common on web sites devoted to personals. Certainly anonymity allows one to convey different personality traits, but also for those who are authentic, often they are misunderstood or misconstrued because the words themselves are devoid of emotion, which can make a difference. I have been accused more than once of things that are not me but because what I wrote was misunderstood
November 3, 2016 3:38 pm at 3:38 pm #1196207MenoParticipantMA
“due to my profession in detective work”
Mashgiach, Psychologist, Detective, Professional Allergic, Preacher, what else do you do?
November 3, 2016 8:27 pm at 8:27 pm #1196208WinnieThePoohParticipantThere are posters who post outrageous statements just for fun or to start interesting threads, but it is usually pretty obvious that they are not for real – PBA is a master at that- but I don’t think that is what you meant by faking.
I think MA just implicated himself…
November 3, 2016 9:47 pm at 9:47 pm #1196209👑RebYidd23ParticipantI really did not know that allergies were a profession. I have mild seasonal allergies. Anyone here willing to pay me?

I have more than mild seasonal allergies. If it’s a profession, I could be a millionaire!
“I sometimes pretend to be smarter than I am.”
I sometimes pretend to be dumber than I am. It’s much easier than pretending to be smarter than I am.
November 3, 2016 11:48 pm at 11:48 pm #1196211Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantI think there are some people who say things that aren’t true, but it is not because they are deliberating faking. It is coming out of confusion and psychological problems.
I wouldn’t call those people fakers, because they come across as what they are – people who are confused.
I was asking about people who are deliberately faking and who come across as something other than what they really are. One example could be someone who in real life they isn’t confused, but pretends to be in the CR.
November 4, 2016 12:39 am at 12:39 am #1196212golferParticipantOr someone who is not Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus and…
One minute…
November 4, 2016 2:27 am at 2:27 am #1196214AgantzyoorpeerimParticipantI think a faker when he fakes is be’etzem not faking he is being his own real self. Whereas an honest gut when he fakes is really faking but then he becomes a real faker and then he is being honest to his fakerei. It is hard to be a faker or an honest person. We are all honestly fakers and we all fake honesty. The question is how much?
November 4, 2016 10:52 am at 10:52 am #1196215Shopping613 🌠ParticipantWell some people are obviously not trollers. People like me, Goq, SayIDidIt, eclispe…people that are here once in a while or not very often. People who are here but post on 5-6 threads and get in very few arguments, ussually for lack of time.
Trolling is a time consuming occupation. It takes time to come up with Popa’s stories and LF’s funny marks.
Besides for that, who cares what people write, think, and say they are. The only threads that truly matter if it’s truth or not is the personal threads which are ussually true. Trolls either crack jokes, or stay away.
November 4, 2016 1:56 pm at 1:56 pm #1196216Little FroggieParticipantShopping: Are you insinuating that I’m a troll?!? How history repeats…
November 4, 2016 2:30 pm at 2:30 pm #1196217TheGoqParticipantI’ve been here almost 6 years am I the same person I was back then? not at all but I believe I am emotionally and intellectually honest.
November 5, 2016 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm #1196218Shopping613 🌠ParticipantHiya Goq! I meant that you don’t pretend to be the opposite gender or idk what.
LF-not at all. You are one of the people here who always make everyone else smile. You are witty and funny. But such as it is with people like you and Popa, unless you read every remark and post you never know exactly who or what they are.
Trolls are bothersome, you are not. I meant that you share that secrecy that trolls do.
November 5, 2016 11:09 pm at 11:09 pm #1196219Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantI still don’t quite get what a troll is. What exactly is a troll? I was referring to fakers. If that is what you mean by a troll, Shopping, I don’t think that LF can be called a troll. He had always struck me as being very open and honest (but then again, I’ve been accused by the moderators of being naive, so what do I know?)
November 6, 2016 4:23 am at 4:23 am #1196220LightbriteParticipantlilmod ulelamaid: Agreed.
I haven’t seen a full-on troll here or know what it would look like, baruch Hashem.
I think on other websites, the most “trolly” thing that I can think of is when someone posts on a forum and then someone says, “Oh I had the same problem and then I took some _________ and it solved it magically and coincidentally there is a great sale on _________ just click here.” Ohhh wait, maybe that’s a robot?
Well… a troll is here for kicks I think and stirs up people for no reason other than personal amusement at the person’s response. Actually I think I did come across something trollish a while ago and then realized that the best thing to do was disengage (which worked).
I feel like a faker sometimes because I come on here and am all baal teshuva, and then during the day I don’t always feel that way. Honestly though, thank G-d for the CR because it’s helped me be more confident and accepting of my current place. Instead of criticizing myself for where I am lacking, CR has helped me realize that there are so many places where I can grow and stay close. So I’ve been doing more because of spending more time being connected.
November 6, 2016 4:27 am at 4:27 am #1196221LightbriteParticipantNovember 6, 2016 4:32 am at 4:32 am #1196222LightbriteParticipantIt’s possible to pretend to be smarter than one is… Like when one twin takes a test for another twin who wasn’t as prepared for the test.
Or if a seventh-grade sibling does a first-grade sibling’s homework.
Little Froggie could really be Big Froggie giving Little Froggie the credit.
Though that’s technically fraud.
You’re talking about something else.
What about someone who has a dissociative disorder and speaks from one psyche at times (with profound intelligence), while mostly living from a less cognitively developed part most of the time?
November 6, 2016 6:26 am at 6:26 am #1196223YesOrNoParticipantEveryone in the Coffee Room is automatically not the real person they are. They all have Usernames. So why would they then pretend again to be a 3rd identity?!
November 6, 2016 7:58 am at 7:58 am #1196224HappygirlygirlMemberI love how LU is so temimisdik!! I actually wish that we had to identify just to the moderators. It would keep stuff safe honest
November 6, 2016 4:18 pm at 4:18 pm #1196225Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantHGG – Are you saying that you think there are a lot of people here who are deliberately dishonest?
November 6, 2016 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm #1196226Little FroggieParticipantI’m feebly attempting to impersonate myself.
November 6, 2016 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm #1196227Ex-CTLawyerParticipantYesorno………….
You have made a statement that is not true:
“Everyone in the Coffee Room is automatically not the real person they are. They all have Usernames”
There are some here whose user name is their real name.
One that comes to mind is Charlie Hall> I have seen his signed postings on both Facepook and the Forward’s website.
I employ a user name because the Bar Examining Committee of our state prefers attorneys not post on social media using real names, so they may not be accused of offering legal advice to non-clients.
November 6, 2016 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm #1196228Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantAnd maybe my name really is Lilmod ulelamaid.
November 7, 2016 1:10 am at 1:10 am #1196229HappygirlygirlMemberWell I am a happy girly girl sometimes

Regardless..
“One that comes to mind is Charlie Hall> I have seen his signed postings on both Facepook and the Forward’s website”
Do you think that Facebook and The Forwards Website is a proof that Charlie Hall is his real name?
November 8, 2016 3:38 am at 3:38 am #1196231LightbriteParticipantAre we allowed to be in the CR if we don’t drink coffee?
November 8, 2016 5:14 am at 5:14 am #1196232Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantNo. And the amount that you are allowed to post is directly related to the amount of coffee that you drink. That’s why I post so much.
November 8, 2016 5:22 am at 5:22 am #1196233LightbriteParticipantAlas… I drink no coffee. Are the moderators makpid on this coffee-drinking-imperative CR halacha?
November 8, 2016 11:10 am at 11:10 am #1196234Ex-CTLawyerParticipantYesorNo……….
Based on FB profile page it is my opinion that it is his real name

November 8, 2016 9:08 pm at 9:08 pm #1196236Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantlightbrite – there is a halachic leniency for those posters who are known to consistently post nice things to other posters as well as to refrain from insulting anyone. Such posters are allowed to post as often as they like.
I posken that on the basis of that “kula”, you should be allowed to post as much as you like.
November 9, 2016 3:11 am at 3:11 am #1196237LightbriteParticipantlilmod ulelamaid: Yay thank you!!!!

November 10, 2016 12:21 pm at 12:21 pm #1196239☢️ Rand0m3x 🎲ParticipantI employ a user name because the Bar Examining Committee of our state prefers attorneys not post on social media using real names, so they may not be accused of offering legal advice to non-clients.
What’s the problem with offering legal advice to non-clients?
(Is it that non-clients cannot make malpractice claims?)
Do you think that Facebook and The Forwards Website is a proof that Charlie Hall is his real name?
The existence of Charlie Hall, the person, is presumed fact –
he has been mentioned in reputable newspapers, IIRC.
The CR Charlie Hall actually being the same Charlie Hall is not a
certainty, but given their consistency, it’s a reasonable assumption.
December 4, 2016 7:47 am at 7:47 am #1196240LightbriteParticipantNot having one’s birth name does not make one a faker.
An anonymous username can protect oneself and one’s family.
Plus anonymity removes the “me” out of my words, making space for another to read and relate.
