I live in Karmiel (North Israel) as a repatriant from Russia. I and my friends like to walk, and I see a problem outside the cities. Namely, there are almost no jewish people on the nature. Just behind the eruv line, it is very difficult to meet a Jew – almost only Arabs. I think it is not right, but it can be resolved.

It is not too easy to describe all situation in several words, so I’ve written a little text and published it on my site. But here is prohibited to link outside YWN, so I’ll try to summarize main facts here.

Thus, I say: in the Land of Israel, there are almost no Jews outside of settlements!

    2. All the Jewish settlements in our region are fenced off. The line which Jews do not cross is visible in this case: it is a barbed wire. But Arabs in all villages live openly.

    3. All the places outside settlements are deserted, like in the remote Siberian taiga. But not quite. These places are inhabited by Arabs.

    4. The Holy Land, in its entirety, is the gift of God to the Jewish people. And it’s possible to live in it. Moreover, it is an excellent land, well suited for life.

    5. I think this is only a temporary misunderstanding. Friends, come in, make yourself comfortable! We are the owners here! We are truly at home and just need to settle this Land.

We live near you in Ma’alot and we have more integration up here it seems. We have Jewish yishuvim around too. I’m glad you are encouraging people to make aliyah! Yay!

I’m glad you are encouraging people to make aliyah! Yay! B’H making Aliya is such a true reality, because B’H we were blessed with the wonderful Matono of Medinat Yisrael 67 years ago. Yom ha’Atzmaut Sameach to each & every single Yehudi. Already just surpassed 2/3 century.

I’m sure you meant to write “we were blessed with the wonderful matono of ERETZ YISREOL. And that since His shavua to the Avos, not a recent invention (nothing to do with the “assistance” or better yet hindrance of those in direct opposition to HaShem).

And according to the Gra it would be an issur diorysa of chukat hagoyim” – to celebrate or give any credence to that “Yom”… (especially since that was the main ????, erev Shabbos ???? ?????, (or maybe afterwards) “let us be like all other nations… our might…”) Can there be any bigger issur of chukas hagoyim, where they’re actually trying to BE like all other goyim?

I think the Gra did not celebrate.

Daniel Alievsky: I too live in a so-called “settlement” south of you. When I first made Aliyah, it bothered me to see so many Arab communities, especially up north and also near Yerushalayim.

While it still annoys me, I look at it that Jews will need places to live soon, when Moshiach comes, and the Arabs are preparing it for them.

    Daniel Alievsky,

I’m not familiar with the area, but I think what you are describing is proper behavior for Jews. The Torah commands Jews to remain in their place over the Sabbath, so there are limits to how far outside of a town a Jew can walk. Additionally, one cannot carry outside of an eruv (the “invisible line” you describe), which would make long hikes in nature a challenge.
