Something to think of on erev rosh chodesh av

With the petirah of Rav Elyashiv ztz”l it is becoming increasingly difficult to convince ourselves that we are left with any pre-holocaust gedolim.

This is not the end of a 100 year era, it is the end of 1000 year era of European Torah learning.

Choppy – I disagree – Jewry has continued but the level of Torah learning has been truncated

You aren’t disagreeing. All I said was Era of European Jewry was longer than you indicated. You are counting from the time of Rabbeinu Gershom (followed by Rashi). Truthfully, you can go back much earlier to the time Jews moved to Prague and Spain.

Correction:- Did you mean to say pre WW1 Gedolim? Because still several people around from WW2 era.
