Absolutely. It has been around for a few months and I’ve seen someone who got one. I think it was a slickdeal. Search the forum.
September 3, 2009 10:58 pm at 10:58 pm #658887SJSinNYCMemberThis really is the funniest thread ever (maybe minus Dr P’s stories).
MKY, do you believe that those game systems are assur because of the bitul zman issue? There are plenty of learning games that can be used on them.
I for one will stand up and say “No, I don’t believe its assur, but can be used for assur things.”
September 3, 2009 11:14 pm at 11:14 pm #658888mi keamcha yisroelMemberhow can yidden by this IT IS TOTALLY TRAFE!!
September 3, 2009 11:33 pm at 11:33 pm #658889SJSinNYCMemberMKY, please explain WHY its totally treif.
September 3, 2009 11:51 pm at 11:51 pm #658890goody613Memberboys under 13 and girls all ages don’t really have a problem of bitul zman and not all games are bad and not e/o gets addicted
September 3, 2009 11:51 pm at 11:51 pm #658891abxParticipantHas no one here seen people slacking off of their Yiddishkeit because of all these ipods, cell phones, etc.? I certainly have! Seeing the break down is really scary!
September 3, 2009 11:57 pm at 11:57 pm #658892mepalMemberMKY, I have a question for you. If you so earnestly believe that all these things are treif, what are you busy doing on the internet all day? Is that more kosher than any of the other aforementioned ‘toys’?
September 4, 2009 12:29 am at 12:29 am #658893plonisalmonisMemberOuch mepal. that one must have hit where it really hurts.
MKY i dont see why you have to get so worked up about the whole issue.
abx there are plenty of OTHER reasons why other people have R”L “slacked off”. It’s not just the electronic gadgets that are causing it.
I am NOT here to justify the stuff, but I think MKY you are going a bit overboard. Ask your local LOR if his children have a electronic “toys”. I’m not promising, but probably the answer is yes. Bad for the kids? Most probably yes. ASSUR and TREIF? NO. That’s not the appropriate terminology to apply to these things.
So MKY please explain why you think all this stuff is totally treif.
September 4, 2009 12:38 am at 12:38 am #658894mepalMembereverything in moderation…
September 4, 2009 1:48 am at 1:48 am #658895mi keamcha yisroelMemberIt is ASSUR and TREIF.
And if you ask me why i’m here is because i’m a lost case
September 4, 2009 1:49 am at 1:49 am #658896mi keamcha yisroelMemberi can almost guarrantee you that no real rabbi’s child has and itouch or ds or psp
September 4, 2009 1:06 pm at 1:06 pm #658898mepalMemberMKY, re And if you ask me why i’m here is because i’m a lost case
There is no such thing. You should never talk about yourself that way. If you feel what you are doing is wrong, there’s always hope for teshuva.
September 4, 2009 3:59 pm at 3:59 pm #658899JotharMembermi keamcha yisroel, no rabbi’s son owns one from their parents. But you can bet they are using their friends’ gaming machines. As a long-time computer and game user, I agree that they are a complete waste of time, like the internet.
September 4, 2009 5:32 pm at 5:32 pm #658900mi keamcha yisroelMemberthat guy is a faker a real one. He stole my name. Look in his account record i am the real mi keamch yisroel
September 4, 2009 5:44 pm at 5:44 pm #658902AnonymousInactiveA fake or a real? Make up your mind.
Treif or not?
You seem a little confused.
September 4, 2009 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm #658903areivimzehlazehParticipantmky- excuse us, but the CR is not where you come when you’re a lost case. This is a prestigious institution where every member is valued at their value.
Seriously, I’m not sure what makes you think you’re a lost case (out of yeshiva? on the internet?) don’t beat yourself up- it’s self destructive.
Go to the New & Returning Members Thread and get workin- it’s really never too late. Believe it!
Also read up on the other helpful threads from a while back (you aint new here)- all those discussions with moish etc.
Have a great shabbos,

September 4, 2009 6:04 pm at 6:04 pm #658914YW Moderator-80MemberOkay. It’s all taken care of. Sorry mi keamcha yisroel, it won’t happen again
September 4, 2009 7:30 pm at 7:30 pm #658917mi keamcha yisroelMemberSO, L’maskana, no child should have a DS PSP or I-touch
September 4, 2009 7:40 pm at 7:40 pm #658918JotharMemberAnd nobody should have internet access.
September 6, 2009 3:48 am at 3:48 am #658920JotharMemberAny games machine which offers unfettered internet access is a michshol, period. Anyoen who doesn’t believe the kid is using is to look at shmutz is just plain naive. A games machine which just plays games is muttar but needs to be watched closely for signs of addiction. It’s definitely more muttar than cigarettes which are a killer.
September 6, 2009 4:01 am at 4:01 am #658921mi keamcha yisroelMemberJothar, even though internet is very bad that isn’t my focus. my focus is these handheld games that it clogs up the kids minds and they do bad in school because they cant focus in class
September 6, 2009 6:31 pm at 6:31 pm #658922JotharMembermi keamcha yisroel, you can put ANY distraction in that category. That doesn’t make it assur. Smoking can be the same thing, plus it kills you. Smoking is more assur than game machines. You should campaign to assur smoking in all circles a much biger michshol r”l, affecting many of all ages, than portable game machines, which are used by a smaller circle.
Games are inherently muttar, but can be misused to become assur. This is true of anything muttar. Food, cars, work, etc can all be misused. I would hate to put all of them under the rubric of “assur”. Save your askanus for cigarettes.
September 6, 2009 8:36 pm at 8:36 pm #658923JosephParticipantThen who will work on the other issues?
September 6, 2009 11:34 pm at 11:34 pm #658924mi keamcha yisroelMemberhandheld games are bitul ZMAN and ASSUR for EVERYONE.
September 6, 2009 11:49 pm at 11:49 pm #658925plonisalmonisMemberOkay MKY you said that already. You have to explain yourself, not just say a blanket statement – ASSUR FOR EVERYONE.
September 7, 2009 1:19 am at 1:19 am #658926JotharMembermi keamcha yisroel, “assur” has halachic connotations which cannot be used unless a source is provided. The phrase “everyone” is also wrong. Mi keamcha yisroel, what rae your favorite hobbies and methods of relaxation? And why aren’t they assur because of bittul zman?
September 7, 2009 2:35 am at 2:35 am #658928aussieboyParticipantWow with all the rabbis we got on here who know all the laws i dont think ill listen to r’ moshe feinstein or the regualr old rabbis like that… You all know so much better then them so ill go acording to you.
September 7, 2009 2:40 am at 2:40 am #658929JotharMemberJoseph, the second half of mesilas yesharim, which begins with prishus, makes the same point that anything muttar can be misused. Prishus is beyond nekius, meaning that only those who are on the level of prishus need apply. To tell teenagers who already believe that “Shabbos” is a three letter Hebrew word meaning “jail” that they can’t play games is asking for it. That’s not what the Torah wants. There is a famous story with the Satmar Rav ZT”L who was asked about yerushalmi kids who learned so much when they were younger but became batlanim when they were older. is immortal response- “If kids don’t play when they’re younger, they play when they’re older”. Allow kids to have their outlets. they will grow into prishus when they are ready to move past the “dai lanu leheyos tzaddikim” stage. The internet is not part of this discussion, because unfiltered internet is a michshol which has torn apart marriages, homes, and lives across the frum world. Anyone who doesn’t believe it need only speak to his rav or Rebbe.
September 7, 2009 2:49 am at 2:49 am #658930goody613Memberdid anyone else get a letter from their childs yeshiva about ipod touch and psp and cellphones? their absolutely right and with wifi you can see anything and causes kids to go off R”L. ive seen it myself
September 7, 2009 3:35 am at 3:35 am #658931mi keamcha yisroelMemberAussie, Rav Moshe’s Great Grandson is a close friend of mine i consult with him on these matters.
JOTHAr, I respectfully disagree! I think that all these handelds are lechatchila ASSUR
September 7, 2009 3:50 am at 3:50 am #658932JosephParticipantmi keanchu, is that really you?!? I thought it was just stam gefregt! Next time I’ll consult with zeyda.

September 7, 2009 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #658937goody613Membernah, this letter was sent out last year
September 7, 2009 10:10 pm at 10:10 pm #658938aussieboyParticipantmi keamcha yisroel: His grandson isnt him. and I just meant stop saying what the halacha is…Even if your right your not a rabbi thats big enough to make a blanket statement like that. If all i was doing is using electronic toys my parents would b jumping for joy. It all depends on the person
And for everyone else: If your kid really wants to do this stuff he will and there is nothing you can do to stop him… So i fully suppor tyou trying to prevent this stuff and not letting your kids have it just realize if he wants to do it he will…Dont think that just by saying they cant have it they wont get it….With the availability of theses things these days its impossible to stop your kid from getting it.
September 7, 2009 10:22 pm at 10:22 pm #658939mi keamcha yisroelMemberNo Joseph, I consult.
September 7, 2009 10:40 pm at 10:40 pm #658940JosephParticipantmi keamcha, when would you like your next consultation? I have an opening at 9:00.
September 7, 2009 10:44 pm at 10:44 pm #658941squeakParticipantJoseph, I’m sure you knew in advance that would 747 its target.
September 8, 2009 1:09 am at 1:09 am #658942mi keamcha yisroelMemberI”m serious, i consult before writing.
