From Rabbi M. Hecht (Forest Hills)
Monday August 8, 2011: DJIA closed down 634.76 – adding up all the digits equals 26.
Tuesday August 9, 2011: DJIA closed up 429.92 – adding up all the digits equals 26.
Wednesday August 10, 2011: DJIA closed down 519.83 – adding up all the digits equals 26.
In Hebrew, the word for G-d, or Y- followed by -H followed by -V and followed by -H, also has a numerical value of 26….
Coincidence…..?
Coincidentally, (or perhaps not), in the English language, the word G-d, when assigning values of 1 to A, 2 to B, 3 to C and so forth…., also has a numerical of 26!!!!!

Thanks.
Done. Added apostrofey.

Cute.
Let’s try again. I said spelling error, not punctuation error. And I’m really sure you’re joking about the spelling of apostrophe.
Dow Jones “Coincidence”?!
Please tell me you don’t think Dow Jones gets an apostrofey

Wow amazing!
August 14, 2011 5:55 am at 5:55 am #797393wanderingchanaParticipantNope, no apostrophe.

The odds are far better than one in trillions (it’s even better than one in a million). What is even rarer is for the DJIA to close 3 consecutive days at 634.76, 429.92, and 519.83.

I got 1116. Y=700,H=8,V=400,H=8

I got 11 (or 71 when I replaced the hypen with an O).
August 14, 2011 2:46 pm at 2:46 pm #797395Dr. PepperParticipantRalph, I don’t know where you’re getting your statistics.
CCO of a large (now defunct) corporation in an interview with Ralph Nader shortly before the company went under.
Can you explain how this was calculated?
Assuming that the absolute value of any change, in a volatile market like this, between 0 and 999.99 is equally probable, there are 5,280 different ways that the five digits can sum to 26 out of 100,000 total.
(5,280/100,000)^3 = 0.000147197952 or 1 in 6,793.57.
(Off by a factor of 147,197,952)
August 14, 2011 3:04 pm at 3:04 pm #797396yossi z.MemberBezalel: I am not following your math.
Yud=10 hey=5 vav=6 and hey=5 add them up and you get 26
G=7
O=15
D=4 again 26
Maybe you got confused?
😀 Zuberman! 😀
August 14, 2011 4:52 pm at 4:52 pm #797397gefenParticipantHey! – I started this post first! 🙂
See the thread titled “stock market- message from Hashem? 2nd try”
KIsh Echad BLev Echad – you stole my spotlight 😉
August 14, 2011 5:51 pm at 5:51 pm #797398KIsh Echad BLev EchadMemberMy apologies to gefen! I just received this as an email and decided to share it having no idea that it was already posted.
Secondly, I apologize for the spelling error in coincidence. I am usually very makpid to make a kiddush Hashem in how I spell, but in my haste on Erev Shabbos I did not do a personal spell check.
August 14, 2011 5:57 pm at 5:57 pm #797399KIsh Echad BLev EchadMemberAs per my last post, I sincerely ask the Mod who is zoche to read this post to please make the necessary corrections to the title of this thread- That means no apostrophes, and a change of the first e (when being read from left to right)to an i. -I have to be very precise, I see…. 😉
Done. You just had to ask. 🙂 -95
August 14, 2011 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm #797400on the ballParticipantI’m a little skeptical – is there a source in Tanach, Chazal or possibly in Kabalah, that there is any basis whatsoever to attach importance to these types of occurences?
August 14, 2011 9:48 pm at 9:48 pm #797401KIsh Echad BLev EchadMemberChazal tell us that gematrias are aids to wisdom. They’re nice little pointers. But everything that occurs in life has some bearing or ramification, of which we should try to decipher to see if the cause was based on our actions. Hope that helps….
And thank you Mod # 95- You are much easier to deal with than the I-95, that’s for sure!! 🙂
