A big, fat jerk.
December 20, 2015 5:03 am at 5:03 am #1137584akupermaParticipantHe is reprising his role as a “jerk” from his television show. His “character” was good for ratings, and is good for ratings now. Whether that will get him elected president is a different issue. Other actors who have gone into politics, e.g. Al Franken, gave up their role when they went into politics (Ronald Reagan for the most part didn’t, but one should note that Reagan had been typecast as a “nice guy” so he didn’t really need to change). Whether Mr. Trump is a “jerk” in real life is questionable, since jerks rarely are successful in business relationships.
It is quite possible that over the course of the election Trump will change his character to be more “presidential” (nice guy, thoughtful, etc.) – for him it is only a matter of acting and writing. It’s also possible the one of the other three candidate who appear to be serious at this point (based on preliminary polling), Cruz, Rubio and Carson, might become more “out spoken” and angry, in otherwords Trump-like.
One should note that based on polling, Cruz, Rubio and Carson are running even with Clinton, whereas Trump would lose by a landslide, and as the primaries get closer that may prove to be a deciding factor (why channel yhour anger in a way that elects Hillary, if there are other almost as angry alternatives).
December 20, 2015 5:10 am at 5:10 am #1137585charliehallParticipantThat is the least of his problems. He is also an anti-vaxxer Obama birther climate change denier nativist bigot with a history of horrible business ethics who spouts anti-Semitic stereotypes and refuses to call out the racists and anti-Semites among is supporters. Stormfront loves him (and hates Hillary Clinton).
Trump also failed to support the renewal of the bill providing health care for the 9/11 responders. (Among the Republicans, only Graham, Huckabee, Pataki, and Rubio did the right thing.)
December 20, 2015 5:16 am at 5:16 am #1137586JosephParticipantHillary is a bigger jerk. For all his many faults, and he has many, I’d take Trump over Clinton, who has immeasurably more and bigger faults than Trump, any day of the week.

December 20, 2015 8:11 pm at 8:11 pm #1137597charliehallParticipant“why channel yhour anger in a way that elects Hillary”

Because it is a communal obligation on society to help those who served us. It is similar to our veterans. Besides, the government (the Bush Administration) lied to them and told them the site was safe.

No. His kids were grown before he started spouting the anti-vaccination nonsense. As a result, children will die.

December 20, 2015 8:22 pm at 8:22 pm #1137602charliehallParticipant“a global warming trend that has been going on consistently since prehistoric times”
Actually that is not true. The earth got COLDER between about 1400 and 1600. And the consequences of doing nothing could be catastrophic. A single hurricane in NYC caused $50 billion in damage. Now, imagine that storm with the sea level just a few feet higher — South Brooklyn, South Staten Island, and the Rockaway Peninsula are gone. (Interestingly, those areas mostly vote Republican!) South Florida is doomed and so is the entire Mississippi River south of Baton Rouge, which combines to be America’s largest port. Bangladesh will have a hundred million Muslims pouring into India and Myanmar. The Pacific Island nations that consistently vote for Israel at the UN will cease to exist. I could go on and on. It is NOT doing something that could destroy the world economy, with the US first.

One thing the liberals here and I have in common is that we’re actually taking him seriously. If you like him, you should be happy from the polls. If you don’t like him, you should be afraid. You can’t just keep turning the blind eye and spouting that he’s just a joke candidate. It’s time to start taking it seriously, whether you like it or not.
“I’ll tell you one thing – if there is a DemonKratic pres. & there is a war, the Western World is finished!”
I don’t agree that it’s that simple. Fiorina and Christie both want to shoot down Russian planes. I actually think the West would have a worse chance of survival with them than with any of the Democrats. And, if you’ve read enough of my posts here you know I’m not the type to advocate for liberalism.

I highly doubt he will take Iowa. Once he loses Iowa he is a “Loser” which int he Trump Lexicon is worse than a socialist-islamic-kenyan.

I f he somehow does win Iowa
That said there is zero chance of him winning a general election.

Maybe with those two, but I don’t think that they’ll win the Republican nomination. The West’s only chance of survival is with a Republican president!

1. Climate varies. You just admitted it. All the “panic” is based on the assumption that the climate in the early modern period was the “normal” when in fact it was unusually cold. The climate alarmists are similar to someone who notices that temperatures in July are higher than Feburary and expect the increase will continue indefinitely.
2. Global warming will lead to less intensive storms since the difference between regions will be less. Bad zoning is what caused the damage from Sandy and Katrina. If one builds in a flood plain or on the coast, one has to expect floods and storms.
3. Think about all the people living in the area between Long Island and Connecticut when it flooded (it used to be a plain). And the poor people in Alaska who could no longer visit their family in Siberia. And look how disruptive it was when the land between Dover and Calais flooded. Do you believe that was caused by cavemen buring too much carbon?

December 21, 2015 2:39 pm at 2:39 pm #1137612ubiquitinParticipantBtw neville the math is heavily stacked against trump. Many states, especially the early ones divide their delegates proportionaly so even if trump comes in first place he doesnt get all that states delegates.
Then of course there are the superdelegates many of whom are republican insiders who obviously will do anything they can to block trump.
Bottom line even if he wins a few priamaries/caucuses the odds of him getting enough delegates to actually win the nomination are negligible.
Sorry Hillary.

milder hurricane seasons due to a decrease in temperature differentials between tropics and temperate climates
Given that tropical cyclones develop in barotropic (i.e., the temperature distribution is uniform) environments, why would a reduced temperature gradient between the tropics and mid-latitudes have any effect on their frequency or intensity?
December 21, 2015 10:50 pm at 10:50 pm #1137615Neville ChaimBerlinParticipantubiquitin: You’re proving my point. The RNC has assured many times over that they won’t let the delegates keep the people’s favorite from being the nominee. As much as I hate them, I believe them in this case. And if you want to talk about not winning the general, nothing could be worse going into the general election than a candidate forced on Republican voters by delegates.
I’m not asking anyone to like Trump. But, the way to win is not to close your eyes and pretend your enemy doesn’t exist. He is posed to take New Hampshire and South Carolina, and he’s the national favorite. Yes, he might lose Iowa. Don’t act like Iowa predicts who the nominee will be. History has not shown that to be the case. History also has not shown that polls are necessarily accurate for Iowa given their caucus system.
December 21, 2015 10:53 pm at 10:53 pm #1137616Neville ChaimBerlinParticipantHealth: I know that neither of those two will get the nomination. I agree with you for the most part, but there are anomalies. We should vote for policies not for parties. For a totally impossible, hypothetical example to my point, say the general election came down to John Kasich vs. Jim Webb. The conservative candidate would be the Democrat, and the liberal candidate would be the Republican. But, as you will probably point out, there’s a reason such situations never occur.

“nothing could be worse going into the general election than a candidate forced on Republican voters by delegates.”
i hear though Im not sure how much Republican voters care about the primary process. And besides, there is something worse and that is:Trump
“But, the way to win is not to close your eyes and pretend your enemy doesn’t exist.”
I’m not sure what you mean by that. Many are in a panic that he might win. Its comforting to know that mathematically it is improbable.
“yes, he might lose Iowa…”
He will lose Iowa. And not just because of polls, It is hard to imaging a 4 times married unscrupulous flaming liberal until recently who made his money off casinos winning a state like Iowa. and with that he is a “Loser” one of the most dreaded words in the Trump lexicon he will rapidly lose steam.
December 22, 2015 3:28 am at 3:28 am #1137619mw13ParticipantFrom Politico:
Trump is often criticized for statements that have little to no basis in fact. For example, no video has been found showing “thousands” of Muslim-Americans celebrating the 9/11 attacks, as the Republican presidential candidate has claimed repeatedly.

Because to win a general election you cant ely on “us” if only Republicans vote the gOP cant win. you need independents/etc as well. There is no chance of Trump getting enough of them to win a general election. Common sense, election history, polls etc etc etc all tell us this.
Do you think Trump can win a general election?
Very few people vote in priamtries. If say, Rubio is forced on them what do you think will happen, they will vote for Hillary? They will sit out and let her win? Sure those die hards may be upset but at least the gOP will stand a chance.
December 23, 2015 1:07 am at 1:07 am #1137622👑RebYidd23ParticipantI think a lot of people want a president who isn’t a Republican or Democrat. If this is the kind of man that the GOP voters want to be President, count me as a Democrat. He is no different than Hitler ,Mussolini and all the other hateful xenophobes. Look up news clips from Hitler or watch some movies abut him. Hitler and the germans too spoke about “being betrayed”, “making the country great again”, attacking all foreigners and more. Demagogues like Trump appeal to the darkest, basest feelings of people and he has unleashed hatred into the mainstream. He has introduced poison into our political and civil discourse. And, if you think that those people cheering Trump on only hate the Hispanics and the Arabs, think again. They are also white supremacists and virulent anti-semites. Trump is destroying the GOP and is a real danger to this country.

Because in the general election, the “us” expands from just registered Republicans to the entire American electorate. And in a recent Quinnipiac poll, 50% of registered voters indicated that they would be embarrassed by a Trump presidency.
Ubiquitin: “If say, Rubio is forced on them what do you think will happen, they will vote for Hillary? “
