At 3.2 Billion, what are your thoughts on Donald Trump?
(mods: simple and unpretentious, this is)
March 20, 2013 2:50 am at 2:50 am #939532WIYMemberIs he going to a hotel this Pesach?
March 20, 2013 3:54 am at 3:54 am #939533Torah613TorahParticipantWhat are your thoughts on Carlos Slim?
Bill Gates?
Hashem has seen fit to give him money. Good for him, I hope he and his family enjoy his money.
What else are we supposed to think?
March 20, 2013 5:02 am at 5:02 am #939534ZABACHURParticipantWe’re supposed to think “why does my yeshiva not have a Gates Wing”.
March 20, 2013 6:37 am at 6:37 am #939535spectrumParticipantNo, we are supposed to think ” what can we learn from this guy” positive and negative. In donald case I would say the negative. Trump has a lot if money but there are richer people than him that aren’t as famous, some even unheard of. My point is, that Donald will do anything to make him more famous , more popular, even though he has no special qualities he can attribute them to. He hasn’t added to society nor invented anything useful to be worthy the popularity that he seeks. Except he made some money and feels “its all me!”
Case in point: Gayva. We should aknowledge that our financial state is G-d given and if we’re rich we shouldn’t demand more Kavod and prestige.
March 20, 2013 6:54 am at 6:54 am #939536ah talmidParticipantA frum guy was driving on the highway and saw a car pulled over on the shoulder that was disabled. So he pulled over to see if he could help. He asked the driver what’s the matter. The driver said he got a flat. So the frum guy asked the driver if has a spare. The driver did. So he told him he could put on the spare tire. Kach hava, he gets out his tools and has the spare on in no time flat. He tells the driver you’re good to go, have a nice day. The driver says hold up a second, the guy I’m driving wants to thank you. Nu, the frum guy walks over to the passenger side of the Limo, the guy inside opens his door and thanks him and says I’d like to give you a tip for helping me out. The frum guy says no thanks, it was a pleasure helping you get back on your way, and I don’t need a tip. The passenger insists but the frum guy adamently refuses to accept payment. So the passenger says “Okay, at least let me mail you a thank you card. What’s your address?” The guy gives him his address and is on his way.
A few days later the frum guy gets a card in the mail “Thank you very much for helping me get going by fixing my flat when I got stuck on the highway. Your mortgage is paid off.
Signed: Donald Trump
March 20, 2013 7:12 am at 7:12 am #939537ah talmidParticipantI heard this story a very long time ago, about 18 years ago, before everyone had cellphones. The snope writer doesn’t believe the story because he couldn’t find confirmation. But Mr. Trump himself, in 2005, confirmed this story happened a while earlier on a busy New Jersey highway.
March 20, 2013 1:30 pm at 1:30 pm #939538☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSnopes probably doesn’t believe that he confirmed it either.
March 20, 2013 2:20 pm at 2:20 pm #939539frummy in the tummyParticipantSnopes probably wouldn’t care if he confirmed it, because it’s Donald Trump and he would love to have a story like that be publicized, regardless of its truth.
March 20, 2013 3:34 pm at 3:34 pm #939540Veltz MeshugenerMemberThere’s no way that story is true.
March 20, 2013 4:03 pm at 4:03 pm #939541abra cadabraParticipantI just looked at Snopes and it says that The Donald confirmed the veracity of the story on TV during his The Apprentice show.
March 20, 2013 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm #939542🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantWhether Donald Trump confirmed it or not doesn’t really make that much of a difference. He would probably confirm that he gave me $1,000,000 for some favor I did for him too. What would make me believe it is if the guy came forward and has a unique enough name that Donald Trump would have been able to pay off his mortgage without asking for the account number.
March 20, 2013 6:46 pm at 6:46 pm #939543Veltz MeshugenerMemberAbra Cadabra, did you notice the rest of the article on Snopes, about how this legend goes back decades, and has been told about many celebrities or rich people, and was similar to the plot of an Oscar Wilde story? How about the part of the article that talks about Trump lying about other things?
March 20, 2013 7:17 pm at 7:17 pm #939544abra cadabraParticipantIt used to be very easy to pull someones credit report with just a name and address (even without a social) for corporate account holders with TransUnion, Equifax or Experian. And the credit reports used to have the full account numbers and financial institutions of all your credit cards, mortgages, etc. (A lot has changed over the past 15 years with some of the data now being partially redacted.)
March 20, 2013 8:07 pm at 8:07 pm #939546🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantIf you have name and address… I doubt a frum guy would give his address to a random car. If he had a unique name than you can get the address from the white pages. Otherwise he has a lot of mortgages to pay…
March 20, 2013 10:07 pm at 10:07 pm #939547squeakParticipantThough the man declined payment, he agreed to let Trump send flowers as a token. A massive bouquet of flowers arrived with a very loud card that thanked him, informed him that his mortgage was paid, and identified Trump as the beneficiary of the favor. All in quintessential Trump style.
I know the man in the story personally and he told me he kept the card (this was more than 15 years ago)
March 20, 2013 11:09 pm at 11:09 pm #939548Torah613TorahParticipantSimple and unpretentious, he is not.
Don’t believe Squeak people – you can’t possibly think that he knows any more than you do about it. He’s just making it up to make us feel good. And we on YWN are very honest people and believe things. Which is annoying because I really want to believe this story, but won’t until I know the names of the people involved.
Squeak, any proof?
March 20, 2013 11:12 pm at 11:12 pm #939549OblateSpheroidMemberCheck Snopes. I can’t post the link, but Snopes has this story and says it’s false.
March 20, 2013 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm #939550squeakParticipantHis name is EDITED. I wont post his full last name, but his first name is unusual enough that with the last initial many people can figure it out, ask him, and come back to corroborate.
March 20, 2013 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm #939551Torah613TorahParticipantNu, so post his first name.
I mean “unusual first name in New Jersey” really narrows it down.
March 20, 2013 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm #939552ah talmidParticipantNow that squeak mentioned it, I do recall hearing (way back) that it was flowers that Trump agreed to send. Thank you.
March 21, 2013 12:17 am at 12:17 am #939553squeakParticipant92,700,000 results in google. There are not even that many people in NJ, so I would say that’s not the right way to narrow it down.
March 21, 2013 12:28 am at 12:28 am #939554playtimeMemberTorah613Torah- I was telling the mods that my post was ‘simple and unpretentious’, as opposed to an earlier version that was censored out.
March 21, 2013 3:45 pm at 3:45 pm #939555springbok007ParticipantAre you asking us to ‘Trump’ this one?
March 22, 2013 11:39 am at 11:39 am #939556frummy in the tummyParticipantSpring, that was right on the money.
March 22, 2013 3:05 pm at 3:05 pm #939557playtimeMemberlol
August 14, 2017 1:14 pm at 1:14 pm #1338277👑RebYidd23ParticipantMaybe Oscar Wilde inspired many people to do this?
