First of all, the army doesn’t want or need them. Most Charedim
are truly sitting and learning and Not wasting time. This whole argument from Lapid & Bennett is based on their Philosophy that sitting and learning is a big waste of time.
Like I quoted Rav Schach zt”l -“There are two fronts in wartime -one on the front and one in the Bais Medrash.”
If they don’t believe this -there is No common ground between the two sides!
