June 12, 2011 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm #1054298always hereParticipantmy parents didn’t allow me to skip 3rd grade when it was suggested, but then I was tested before going into 7th grade, was put in a 2 yr junior h.s. program (‘SP’) & skipped 8th grade… but I can’t imagine what my IQ ‘scores’ would be now, all these decades later 😉

June 12, 2011 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm #1054304deiyezoogerMemberJust in case anybody cares to know, if you grew up in a different culture (e.g. in another country or in a sheltered enviroment tipical for a chasidishe boy) you are expected to get a lower number then your real IQ because some questions will be about common knowledge, and they have a total different common knowlege then the general popalation. A profesional working with those sectors will take that into acount when doing an avaluation.

June 13, 2011 6:35 am at 6:35 am #1054312quark2MemberNo i don’t nor do I see any good reason to know it for 99.9 percent of people. If you score hi it could make you arrogant, if you score low it will make you sad. And what is the point?
Besides the test is controvertial, and I don’t know if I give it any weight. Intelligence is about more than just a bunch of trick questions about math or whatever
June 13, 2011 8:48 am at 8:48 am #1054313haifagirlParticipantAccording to the free, online test I just took, it’s 149. Of course, each test uses a different scale. The percentile score is a more accurate representation. On real tests I’ve taken in the past, I’ve scored at or above the 98th percentile.

June 13, 2011 2:00 pm at 2:00 pm #1054316bombmaniacParticipantpersonally i dont think a person should A) know their own IQ B) tell anyone else their IQ. you really dont benefit from it. suppose for a second that you have an IQ of 110 which is about average, and you find out that your closest friend is a 135. you never knew that about him. how do you think that friendship is going to look after that.
suppose its you with the 135 and your friend with the 110. how do you think that would go. suppose you found out about his lower IQ. think about it…and consider before posting in this thread and/or finding out your IQ.
June 13, 2011 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #1054317yaakov doeParticipantVery high, but who cares? The high IQ members of MENSA that I’ve met are all nuts, but they are proud of their IQs
June 13, 2011 3:08 pm at 3:08 pm #1054318veteranMemberbomb- it really shouldn’t be a big deal. People tend to make more fuss over IQ results than they are worth. An IQ tests measures exactly one thing – just one and nothing else: It measures your aptitude for taking that particular IQ test.
I don’t say that to be funny.
A 140 IQ is not necessarily more successful than a 100 IQ in anything other than the test itself. There is also some correlation between an IQ result and intelligence. But this correlation is so limited (and with a high margin of error) that it is not worth putting much stock into.
It is true that if a person consistently scores 140+ it is possible to draw conclusions about his intelligence that are different from say, those that would be made about someone who consistently scores 100, but you don’t really need the IQ test to tell you those things anyway. If you are a consistent 140 and your friend is a consistent 100 believe me that you would both already be aware of a difference in your levels of intellectualism. Even at a very young age children can distinguish this difference, without the test scores (ask any second grader who the “smart kids in the class” are).
Bottom line, small differences in IQ is meaningless (white noise) and big differences in IQ is old news. So what’s the difference?
June 13, 2011 3:36 pm at 3:36 pm #1054319WolfishMusingsParticipantWolfish, what happened, they took off points for bad behavior?

June 13, 2011 4:16 pm at 4:16 pm #1054320EzratHashemMemberLike it or not, people with higher IQ’s (140 and up) tend to have characteristics that go with these numbers. Especially those in the categories of 160 and up. This can be very important for kids in school, who will otherwise be mis-labeled/diagnosed and misunderstood. Forget about their talents being nurtured. For now, in the frum velt, it remains a simple matter of jealousy, no more, no less.

June 13, 2011 6:41 pm at 6:41 pm #1054325HaLeiViParticipantI don’t qnow.
June 13, 2011 7:18 pm at 7:18 pm #1054326Midwest2ParticipantIQ is a general measure of intelligence, which as noted above, is basically an average of how well you do on the various parts of the IQ test. More recent research indicates that intelligence is not just one “thing – it actually has many facets – most of them not “academic.” And there’s also a debate about “emotional intelligence” – how well one can understand oneself and other people – which is a better predictor of success in life than just an IQ number alone. Life is a lot more complex than psychologists believed 50 years ago. Look up Howard Gardner and his book “Frames of Mind.”
And yeah, I know mine, and it just makes me feel guilty that I haven’t “achieved my potential” – whatever that means in a human sense.
June 13, 2011 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm #1054327deiyezoogerMemberWhen a student with an otherwise high IQ fares lower in lets say math, we can asume that he missed some instructions and a little tutoring will bring him up to speed, while a kid with a lower IQ is not ment to understand a very hard math concept and his teacherturor should focus more on teaching the basics. (of course there is no hard rule, some people are better in math and logic while others are better with spelling and grammer, only a profassional should make decissions based on IQ tests.)

(In reality I think it is about 1.3 times my weight but I don’t know how much I weigh and my last IQ test was online and not very official).
June 13, 2011 10:34 pm at 10:34 pm #1054329Mother in IsraelMemberothers are better with spelling and grammer
You can that again. 🙂

Obviously everyone can make a mistake every once in a while (as avident from your post)…
But seriously speaking I would rank lower on an IQ test because of my low spelling and grammer skills. (Which in this case is not a sign of weakness in laungauge arts, its a sign of not learning properly the English laungauge [my Hebrew and Yiddish are perfect]). Thats why its importent to have a professional interprate the test results.
June 13, 2011 11:59 pm at 11:59 pm #1054331deiyezoogerMemberHere are some IQ facts:
90-109 average inteligence.
110-119 above average inteligence.
120-129 high inteligence.
130-139 gifted inteligence.
140 and above, guiness.
80-89 below average.
70-79 border line retarded.
60-69 retarded.
below 60 severly retarded.
50% score between 90-109
70% score brtween 85-115
95% score between 70-130
99.5% score between 60-145
only 1 out of 400 scores above 140.

June 14, 2011 1:25 am at 1:25 am #1054334pascha bchochmaParticipantI tell people that my IQ is in the 2 digits. That way everyone can feel good about themselves, since I max out the test so any number I get is pointless.
Newsflash: people care about what you can do for them. Why don’t we all rate ourselves for attractiveness next.
