What is the Mesorah of the Litvishe Torah Community Regarding Maintaining a Beard and Shaving?
It looks like a self-published sefer it’s advertising, and everything in the article is stuff that RGP has been saying on the CR. Did he just take YWN trolling to a new level and actually pay money?

May 13, 2019 3:53 pm at 3:53 pm #1726441Did you consider the conspiracy possibility – that no need to actually pay money when YWN is in cahoots? Maybe that’s why the mods let through postings that challenge your core beliefs? The Russians are sponsoring. Chabad bought YWN…the world is coming to an end. We need Moshiach…NOW!

May 13, 2019 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm #1726464๐ซSyag LchochmaParticipantNeville – why assume that? most of the topics he started were taken from things being discussed, or topics he started to set up posters to give answers that parallel things they objected to when in the Chabad context. I have no idea who this author is, but nobody who is writing sforim is sitting here pretending to be a rebbitzen, and I strongly believe (and have experienced) people who really are talmidei chochomim (if the author is such) could not even fake that level of self importance.
The funniest part to me is that he thought he could convince people he wasn’t a chabadnik.May 13, 2019 6:18 pm at 6:18 pm #1726502syag – Oh yes, I am also an uber-Chabadnik, just like every other sheitel/hat I proudly wear, I will stand up for the kovod of their Rebbe and their chassidus, except when a Chabadsker speaks against ANY of my gedolim (Rav Shach, Rav Hutner, Rav Aharon Kotler and Reb Moshe Feinstein) – he’d better watch out for the firestorm, as I did go full blast (thanks mods for letting it through) when one of them dared post in a derogatory manner about Rav Shach ztzl.

Of course we know you dont mind offendi g people, it’s all part of your peace spreadi g mission. These two concepts are not mutually exclusive. “David learned from everyone”. Get real.
May 13, 2019 8:15 pm at 8:15 pm #1726542Let’s think this through. Suppose I paid for the advertiz=sing, now I am getting bonus publicity for the sefer…would that be uber-trolling or smart uber-business?
May 13, 2019 11:40 pm at 11:40 pm #1726570KY (Kiryas Yoel?) – Rav Hutner ztzl did not “encourage” boys (as they force boys in other yeshivos) to shave. Those that had beards he would sometimes fondly comment an expression from Zohar about beards.
May 13, 2019 11:40 pm at 11:40 pm #1726571Everyone, buy the sefer!! Mention my name and YWN to get a 10% discount!
May 13, 2019 11:40 pm at 11:40 pm #1726573Eli Y – you have introduced a new concept, “The Torah Troll”! Can we extend it to seforim, like a Trolling Sefer? (I am publishing a sefer as I posted several times: “M’Beten Shaul” (a possuk in Yona). The publisher didn’t like M’Puppik Shaul.
May 13, 2019 11:40 pm at 11:40 pm #1726578syag – I left out a few names of my Gedolim:
HaGaon Rav Hershel Schachter shlita – I vigorously defended his kovod when someone posted demeaning words about him, qualifying him as a mere mashgiach on kashrus,
Also the great Tzaddik the former Satmer Rebbe Reb Yolish ztzl – I lambasted the poster that mocked him for making puns of Torah words.
These are gedolinm that I posted about and stood up for their kovod when someone dared mess with it.
And there are others.
May 13, 2019 11:40 pm at 11:40 pm #1726579syag, instead of me saying that I am thick skinned (a painted victim), would you be better pleased to know that I am Teflon coated (non-stick).
May 13, 2019 11:40 pm at 11:40 pm #1726588Honestly, did I not say many times that I am publishing my sefer? I even had a thread about it! I was searching for a name :MiBeten Shaul” was suggested. Why the shock and surprise? With lots of money and tons of brains, everything is possible. Even in the world of trolls and goblins, I can be a leprechaun.

May 14, 2019 12:40 am at 12:40 am #1726650Snag Lachochma, in your own words “the funniest part is that he thought he could convince people he wasn’t a Chabadnik”. Putting aside your OCD about chabad (they are everywhere and control the world – every conversation leads to chabad), aside from that, you do imply that there were funny parts, by writing “the funniest part” is mashma that other parts were also funny but not as funny as the funniest. Yet now you complain of “too much litzones for comfort” – did you become uncomfortable? This too must somehow lead to chabad…maybe comfort has the same Gematriah as chabad. ..

May 14, 2019 9:54 am at 9:54 am #1726891Neville ChaimBerlinParticipant“Neville โ why assume that?”
It’s pretty clear as day. Look at what RGP has said about beards and how Litvish gedolim actually hold that it’s assur to shave (even though they don’t). Take a look at the book that’s being sponsored. I’m going to give some further details in a second comment because I worry that it will be deleted, not for being insulting, but for too much real world information. However, I will say, I believe the person revealed this about himself.Avi K:
Truthfully, I don’t know what you’re getting at. Are you asking if my original post is just kidding around? I mean, I think this whole situation is pretty jovial, but honestly I do 100% believe that the article was sponsored by RGP.May 14, 2019 9:56 am at 9:56 am #1726895Neville ChaimBerlinParticipantOK, b’ezras ha mods, I will explain the story in this comment.
On another frum new outlet, someone posted an op-ed about a situation in the American army. The military seemed to be mulling over getting rid of the religious exception that allowed Jews to have beards in the army. The op-ed claimed that Jews in the army should not bother fighting over it and should just shave with electric razors because that’s mutar anyway. A certain Chabad rabbi took issue with this op-ed. He self-published a book about the halachah of beards to make himself an “authority” on the topic, then wrote his own op-ed in response.
The book you see basically goes through every shittah that is matir shaving and either claims it’s invalid, or claims that the posek didn’t really mean it or some such nonsense. The individual claims to be an authority (his word, not mine) on shittos outside of his own mesora.
You can verify everything I’ve said here. It only took me about 3 minutes to put it all together. Now, does it seem like a respectable sefer halachah to you, or the work of someone upset by comments they read on the internet? Draw your own conclusions.
May 14, 2019 12:07 pm at 12:07 pm #1726898๐ซSyag LchochmaParticipantNeville- RG is obviously a member of chabad. Knowing that this book would be published wouldn’t be shocking, and therefore dragging it in here makes perfect sense. Why assume he authored it tho? Unless you are saying its his style to gather quotes out of context and call yourself an expert. (Haven’t researched the sefer, just trying to clarify your stance)
May 14, 2019 12:10 pm at 12:10 pm #1726922Uncle BenParticipantNeville; Nice logic, however Rav Moshe Weiner wrote the sefer Hadras Ponim Zoken 40 or so years ago. If he actually wrote this new kuntres then your argument falls apart. If he didn’t write it them you may have a point.
I’m sure someone can verify if he wrote it.May 14, 2019 12:56 pm at 12:56 pm #1726962Neville ChaimBerlinParticipant“Why assume he authored it tho?”
I don’t necessarily. But, I do assume he sponsored the ad for it on the home page.“Rav Moshe Weiner wrote the sefer Hadras Ponim Zoken 40 or so years ago. If he actually wrote this new kuntres then your argument falls apart.”
Chabad sources confirm he did. Why does that hurt the theory that RGP sponsored the ad? In fact, why does that even hurt the theory that he is RGP, if we’re taking it that far? The book advertised on the home page is nonsense. That remains the fact regardless of the author’s resume. In light of what you just told me, I’ll say this correction to my original summary:
CORRECTION: The rabbi already had written a sefer on beards decades before the op-ed controversy. Only this new sefer was self-published in the wake of the controversy. Also, I forgot to note, the sponsored article mentions this debate taking place on frum forums. Whoever sponsored it is familiar with what goes on here. Hmm…May 14, 2019 1:46 pm at 1:46 pm #1726985The conspiracy deepens. Intrigue, mystery, drama, and dark comedy.
Muller report mentions Rabbi Berel Lazar, the Chabad Chief Rabbi (in a footnote) but we all know Chabad was behind it all. After all Lazar controls Putin while Trump is controlled by Shemtov, the Chabad Rabbi in Washington. They both have beards…see the connection! They are trying for world domination while infiltrating the Coffeeroom with Undercover Agent “Rebbitzen G” to recruit support for their agenda.
Neville figured it out. It’s all Chabad. They are everywhere. In 2020 they are placing the Rebbe as a Presidential candidate. Chabad Houses in each state are fully mobilized to conquer America. Rebbitzen G will be Chief of Staff. An Executive Order will be issued that all males must grow beards.
Genius.

May 17, 2019 7:36 pm at 7:36 pm #1728622“Sponsoring an article on YWN might be relatively cheap.” Especially when YWN might be part of the conspiracy. If that is the case, it doesn’t get cheaper than free. Notice that #1710015: Mod 25 thinks I am cute. And with the wealth of Chabad’s bottomless budget, what’s the big deal of paying for the operations of their Undercover Agent RGP? We saw the articles of misionaries posing as frum couple to influence the unsuspecting yidden:
https://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/general/1728019/exposed-in-chicago-frum-looking-couple-teaches-christianity.html, here you have a missionary from Chabad posing as a Litvish/Yeshivish regular Rebbitzen, trying to influence the masses to accept the ways of Chabad…She promotes (based on topic s started):
women to learn daf yomi (like all chabad women do),
women staying up on shavuos night (an old chabad custom),
staying up both nights,
saying halel with a brocha on YH,
goyim allowed to eat human flesh,
having 4 daughters in the hagaddah,
women sitting at head of table,
ad dlo yada for women,
using watermelon for karpas..She promotes the agenda of Chabad, by pushing on us all these “well known” chabad minhagim, NOT.
May 18, 2019 10:09 pm at 10:09 pm #1728708baal shitaParticipantThe truth is this whole coffee room is a place used to knock each other , seriously look at most comments on all of the chats and also a lot of lashon hara on gedolim , we must love each other as we are a small nation in a big world that most of it wants our destruction, we must stick together ืืืืฉ ืืื ืืื ืืื as we are in middle of sefirat haomer where this is the reason the ืชืืืืื ืจ ืขืงืืื got killed with the worst death as the Gemara says – why because ืื ื ืืื ืืืื ืื ืืื
May 19, 2019 12:25 pm at 12:25 pm #1728964ื ืืื ืืืื ืื ืืื means that those that there were “Litvish/Yeshivish” held that their way of Avodas Hashem was the ONLY way and PROPER way and BEST way, and were disparaging to other derochim in Avodas Hashem, including mocking the derech of Sefardim, Yekkas, Chadad, Satmar etc. In reply these groups of Talmidim made fun of the derech of “Litvish?Yeshivish”.
They all meant “l’shem shomayim” – coming from a good place, to “help” their fellow talmidim, after all, their Rebbe taught them that Ahavas Yisroel is a klal godal baTorah, and they REALLY had Ahavas Yisroel. They had good intentions, not merely to mock or put down (as many here do), they did so out of love and caring, yet, they were chayov misa.
Why such a harsh punishment for merely not treating an individual with proper kovod? Because they were knocking not just an individual (a yochid) but an entire derech of avodas Hashem. They were mocking hundreds or thousands of yidden – that deserves misa!
When a person knocks an entire derech of a kehillah which has rabbonim, rosh yeshivos, bnei Torah, even if one was to question how they do x or justification for y (like not sllep in sukkah, or eat cake before davening), it is a HUGE achrayus! Even if done out of love and care – the onesh is misa!
(Misa is manifested in many ways, loss of parnasa – poor is choshiv k`mes, loss of children – physically or spirtually etc)

May 20, 2019 11:28 am at 11:28 am #1729527Neville ChaimBerlinParticipantJoseph’s alt’s were a famous part of CR history, and especially when account names had descriptions which the mods changed to “Joseph” on all of them so that we could see entire threads that were mostly him talking to himself. That being said, it was impressive on trolling standards back then, but it wasn’t that advanced or malicious. The alt’s mostly just served to voice agreement with his main account; it wasn’t an entire web of various characters. Also notably, Joseph’s main account is pretty much consistent in its views.
RGP has created an account build where he can’t possibly believe everything he claims to believe. He’s trolling in the most classic and pure sense, which I find very entertaining actually. If he really did sponsor the article, then he’s taken CR trolling to a whole new level. This thread seems to have sort of caused him to break character and become defensive, which is a shame; I almost wish I hadn’t started it.
May 20, 2019 5:00 pm at 5:00 pm #1729695The mods didn’t allow my reply. It wasn’t defensive enough. (Which made it offensive – as in unpleasant or disagreeable vs attack or aggressive ).
May 20, 2019 7:33 pm at 7:33 pm #1729626“he canโt possibly believe everything he claims to believe”, because you are “kofer” that a person can be “chored lidvar Hashem”, and REALLY seek to fulfill rotzon haBoreh, including the mandate and chiyuv min haTorah of ืงืืฉ ืขืฆืื ืืืืชืจ ืื, to refrain even from things that are technically muttar (aka chumros and seyogim).
You think everyone is like you, living in a self created frummie bubble filled with hot air of self rightouesness. Therefore you get bent out of shape whenever someone points out that you are breaching halacha according to some or even many shitos.
That pinprick bursts your bubble and the only way to restore your complacency in kiyum mitzvos is by making false claims and pointing that there are others that have shortcomings. You falsely claim to be more frum than they.
Your standard of frumkeit is: I am frum “enough” because others are less frum than me, look, they don’t do xyz and I-am-holier-than-they, Anochi, the great me.
You pat yourself on the beichel because you keep a few token chumros.
Meanwhile, justifying the worst aveiros of loshon hara, mitzi shem rah and rechilus (and machlokes and sinas chinom) by saying, “those guys do it on their blogs, so it’s a mitzva of nekama for me to do so” – even if it is a pure sheker, as confirmed. THERE ARE NO SUCH BLOGS!
The game is up. Korech also reached an end for his machlokes.
