reb- I dont do such rigorous exercise otherwise I probably would drop really low and would get frustrated cuz I would have to eat the house and defeat the purpose of the exercise :), I go brisk walking so I dont drop so low just a bit…I am gonna start to do a temp basal and see if that helps keep me more stable..

welcome to page 38!!!! and yea, allsgr8-thats my prob. whenever i try to excercise, i end up eating more sugary stuff than i would have if i didnt excercise..

same prob here!!! i go low right after i exercise and then like 6 hours later (which is usually at night so its REALLY ANNOYING!!!!)

coffee-its really interesting that you go low six hours later…you always see that pattern?

I cant imagine why that would be….

You know whats funny, I used to love to be low cuz then I would eat everything I really wanted to eat…at this point I hate the feeling of being low so much its not worth it even if I can eat everything in the candy store!!!!!!!

    Anyone else feel the same?!

    #981167

Allsgr8, that’s really great that you do that exercize in the morning! Do you go walking alone? i usually see a difference in my #s when i do exercize, they keep more in control! Cofeefan, i’ve also seen that pattern of going low hours later. i guess it’s the body’s reaction to the exercize. It’s still worth it though!

Allsgr8, when i’m trying to watch my food, than i often end up still liking to go low but not in the wee hours of the morning or in the classroom!

Rebbizen, thanks for the welcoming the page!!! It’s great to have a new page to welcome, it’s been a while 😉

hi everybody sorry i haven’t been on for a while.

sweet – mazel tov on the wedding. how was the week of sheva brachos with the numbers?

i know by my sheva berachas day and night was fused into one and i wasn’t on the pump yet (my wife made me get onto the pump).

exercising actually keeps me in range for a few days.

my son wants to always to be low so that he can drink juice. sometimes he wants me to retest him so that we can try to get a low number. lol

    Hi e/o!

Whenever I do the slightest excercise it effects my numbers very rapidly, Just a 10 min quick walk will send me shooting down if my number was good to begin with…Is this at all the norm, or I should really appreciate having a quick way to get my numbers down?? (as if when I’m high and headachee I have patience for a good walk, but that’s besides the point…;) )

metoo-Hi! It’s probably normal if you’re generally not very active 😉 Does it bring it down to normal if you exercise when you’re high? cuz i find that when im normal it brings it down if i dont use a temp basal (even then it drops), but if im high it wont necessarily come down too much…part of the fun!! 🙂

meetoo – only when i do active exercise do i go down, not when i am doing regular activity.

the other day i had 3 cups of pasta at 45 carbs a cup, and after a few hours i was 46. Help. how many carbs are there in a cup of cooked pasta?

    #981173

dx3- 45 carbs per cup is correct..

Strange that that would happen …Did you really measure out the three cups or just estimated?

i wish i understood my body! now my scores are constantly high!!! this is nuts! i’m not doing anything differently, and before it was always low..now always high!! i’m really fed up with trying to figure myself out! its never just stable and good! 🙁

Reb- Oy! I know how you feel it happens to the best of us…dont worry your’e not alone.

I had the same thing a few weeks ago where i was constantly low and then after four weeks of that I switched int o the “high mode” without me changing any of my habits or anything… it was very frustrating…what I did was re-adjusted my basals to what they were before the lows and eventually it went back to normal….Yes. it is very frustrating but hey! that’s what makes good numbers so exciting! 🙂

It just shows us how appreciative we need to be for the rest of our body’s normal function..imagine if it would be up to us to keep our heart beat normal?! Baruch Hashem!

Hatzlacha and I hope your numbers get bettter very very soon! Let us know how you’re doing!

    Rooting for yoU!

alls – I did measure out tree cups exactly. not only that both of my kids were in the 40s also. what a night. we were all the same number at the same time. then in the middle of the night i was 38. well i guess i had another supper at 3:00am. lol

I just got my a1c and its 7.1. i am trying to get it below 7 but i am not complaining.

How many total carbs per day are correct (within a guideline)? If this was already mentioned, I missed it. My last A1c was 5.5. and my doc was so happy he cut my medication to one pill. I have a feeling the next blood test might not be as good, even though I watch what I eat, because Chanukah and a couple of simchas later, I have eaten from more items that I had completely eliminated from my diet in the prior months (fried foods, anything with a white potato, most bread).

dx3- WOW! Must’ve been some party! very strange though…I guess next time you’ll count it as less and see what happens..

congrats on the A1c! Keep it up!

oomis- Usually 30-45 grams of carb per meal is recommended.

lol allsgr8 thanks 😉 actually it was very nice, my mother wrote me a beautiful card and gave me a bracelet and my sister (who is like a mother to me and was/is very involved in my D) gave me a necklace (also with a card)both to symbolize that i am stronger than the D and i could conquer anything. i know it sounds silly to get presents for my D but it means a lot to me and i know that every time i wear the jewelry i think i can overcome anything.

    Cofeefan – “happy anniversary”!

(Allsgr8 – great way of putting it!)

That’s such a nice idea, these presents, and i love the message you’re taking from it! What do you think of the shabbaton? Too old for it.. Wonder what it’ll be like?

Metooo, dx3, what was the event like?

Dx3, congrats on the A1c, good luck to all of us trying to get it lower.

princess – thanks. it is very difficult when one day its good and then you are out of control for the next few days.

    #981192

dx3, i’m sorry… i know how difficult it is, in my own way of course.

I’m going to see A1c on monday and i’m not looking forward, i’m really hoping for it to be in the lower number (last one was a .2) but they haven’t been very good to hope..

Loads of luck to all of us. Have a good shabbos! Let us know how your numbers are.

What is typically normal and healthy for most type 2 diabetics for their blood sugar to be first thing in the morning? The person is taking Metformin every morning after checking the blood.

Asking the doctor isn’t a problem, but I wondered what the consensus was here.

    #981194

    Oomis1105, i don’t know about type 2, if it’s like type 1, i normally like to wake up between 90 – 110 .

It’s so important to start of well. It’s so much harder for the numbers to come down once they’re higher to start with and it ripples effects through the rest of the day.

i am getting nervous i have a weak spot for hamantoshen, what do i do the #s and the pounds will both go up!

    #981198

    Hi!!! How are you all???

Allsgr8 – Lol, if only!!! Even just for enough time to get the A1c down (sigh)!!!!!!!

Dx3, for purim, and times when i know i’m going to eat (like, for me, friday afternoons…) i’ve just come to a 2 pointer, which i’m hoping may work… 1. Eat whatever – in control! bolusing correctly! – That means, bolusing “PLENTY” and “IN ADVANCE”.

    2. Worry about weight but in a sensible manner. Eat normally, but not excessively. ……. good luck to all of us. …..

    Oh and good shabbos!

dx3- I say the same as princess..just figure out the correct bolus and go for it! obviously in moderation – as usual 🙂

I went to my endo in friday and my Aic is……..6.7!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!! that’s down from 7.1 in october!! 🙂

    alls – congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

princess – you are right about that, but today after making sure i was bolusing correctly i ended up at 60 with 9.4 units on board. help. so guess what I ATE MORE!!!

    lol, help, lol

    #981201

Allsgr8, that’s great!!!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!! MAY we all get it down, at least to the 7.1!!!!!!

Dx3, i used to go crazy when i looked at the IOB , until i just decided not to look anymore…i do sometimes, and i use it when i use the easyBG – does anybody use that? Do you use the IOB often?

My nurse told me to start to use the easy CARB, she didn’t seem to care that i told her that i can do the math on my own…

My ##s are a 🙁 story at the moment.

    How’s it going for everybody???

i had so many cards on purim…

and the wine shot me up into the 400s

well today things are back on tract. got the numbers down over night and we are ready to go

    a freilichen shushan purim

    #981205

A happy shushan purim! Oomis1105, hope today is indeed better! It is so difficult indeed to keep away..

Dx3, congrats for getting it down again!! Doesn’t wine make you go lower rather than higher?

Somehow, bh my numbers stayed somewhat okay until the evening ;( 🙂

    Good shabbos!

Until all the nosh is gone, gone, gone, I will have the yetzer hara around me. Do we gain weight and get high sugar from things we eat on Shabbos? (There oughta be a law!!!!)

princess – sometimes wine makes be go down, but this year the opposite happened. i think that wine makes you go in whatever direction you are currently going faster.

oomis – tell me about it. that is why i donated most of my nosh to yeshiva

    #981208

    Oomis – yeah, you’re telling me…

Hey Dx3, that’s so interesting! So maybe i should make sure i’m going down and then drink wine… especially by the shabbos seudas! How much percent alcohol does it have to be to do it’s work ?

I am delighted to report that I have been really good this week, after my carb watching going to you-know-where on Purim and Shabbos. The idea is that we can fall, but get right up again and start fresh. Kind of like doing teshuva, don’t you think?

oomis – yep you are right

i have been pretty good so far. i am hoping to lose a few pounds before peasach arrives when i live on matzoh and fattening things (like chocolate mmmmm)

    #981212

Hey, how are you all doing??? Do you remember last year what this place looked like erev pesach, lol?!!

So, it’s getting real close now…anyone care to give some reminders/tips?

Go for whole wheat over regular matzah, sweet potato over white potato, slowly digestible fresh fruit and veggies, and LOTS of water over yom tov. Don’t worry over what you cannot eat, enjoy what you CAN eat.
