Wow this forum is really busy lately!!

dx i will second sweetooth regarding sensor location, when I started out with my dexcom I had the same bleeding problem and was told to pinch up the sensor while inserting the needle, and never had an issue since, ( much easier to to on the stomach) the only drawback on the thigh i find that while sleeping on that side i can have false lows because of the restricted blood flow,

tralala: I read your article and its great!! it brought back scary memories of me in yeshiva I still don’t know how I managed to hide it,

    Hi dx3, and everybody 😉

    #980943

Lol! What’s happening to this place?! i look along the threads to find this one – almost given up.. These past times though i felt a little guilty to talk here whilst the main convo was about one little boy…

How’s all your numbers been? Tralala, so glad to see you here!! i still want to know the details btw… like how you managed to get through everything in the end.. sometimes i wonder if it’s ever possible. Here my ##s have been out of wack completely and i’m already taking more insulin than i used to be. How can i take any more? It’s almost like the battle of messing about versus takingggggg..

    #980944

Princess- keep on taking the insulin and if you need add a drop more insulin helps you.

You are right for feeling how can you write here when there is a tragedy that went on. The past few days I have been out of control bec. this story made me sick. I am still trying to get over it. I was 64 today and an hour later after drinking almost two cups of juice I was 65!!!!!! I had a ton of insulin on board. I think I have to lower my carb ratio by one.

Tralala – I didn’t know that you wrote a second article. Can you send it to me (us). Thanks

ive got a massive massive sunburn that REFUSES to heal!! any ideas?! (i know this has nothing to do with D but im desperate!!!!)

also- lately ive been having like a crawling feeling in my legs, like they need to move… its getting me nervous bec diabetics need to be careful with feet etc… anything you guys can think to do?

    #980946

cofee- about the sunburn- try alo vera it works for most people at least to relieve the burning and itching…

I would say to have your feed it checked out by a doc-its probably not anything to worry about but it doesnt hurt to have make sure!

princess- yup! you gotta just keep giving insulin. iF that’s what your body needs you havta do it..unless you can stick to really low carb :)))) (not an easy one! 🙂 OR maybe try increasing your basal rate- this way you wont FEEL like your taking as much insulin because your not actually programming that much insulin every time you eat..I dont really like the idea though cuz then you end up going low more often..arrrgghhh, hate the feeling!

cofeefan; know exactly what u feel like, had a massive burn last week and it’s only just beginning to go away!

So I’ve tried a variety of different things ranging from some aloecaine spray from the local pharmacy, vaseline, moisturizer….I’ve found that pure aloe vera was the best! It soothes and COOLS it off right when u apply

At this point the BURNING is gone and I’m left with itchy peeling skin:(

Best of Luck dealing with it, I ttly know what it feels like; ooowwwwwwww!!!!

and next time b sure to apply TONS of suntan lotion like i’ve done this wk

How about swimming, has anyone been doing any lately?

I’m trying to make sense of it, here’s what i did; made sure i was a bit higher before sunspended the pump, was on no insulin for the hr- 1 1/2 hrs of swimming and 1/2 hr drying off/tanning,

I was wearing a sensor and saw that right after i came out of the pool i was at 79; pretty good, but it was straight up from there!

any ideas? mayb a higher temp basal for few hrs after? Has anyone else seen this trend?

any insights would be helpful, Thanks!

metoo- i swim almost every day… i happen to not suspend my pump jst bec i keep forgetting…. im always low when i get home… as far as you shooting right up, could it be that your body is going low so you have the “rebound affect” meaning the body senses the low and releases sugar from the liver to compensate for the low… i have that at nights a lot especially on days i swim. for me the lows come right after and then again like 6 to 7 hours later… really frustraing!! i would think to maybe do the temp basal for an hour or 2 after… but not much higher bec then your likely to shoot right down VERY low…. its tricky

Thanks cofeefan! will try next time

Hey, all the sudden when I come on it gets sooo quiet??

    we’re lagging behind!

Anyone fasting today? anyone tried and had to break it already?

    #980951

Cofeefan, how’s the sunburn? I just wish it better! Dx3, how’s the numbers? Any better? Did you get the other article – it wasn’t printed, it was edited and then printed 😉

Metooo – welcome back here!! Let us know how the swimming works!

Fasting – i knew s1 would have asked that questions! Soo, what are you all doing?? Metooo you just asked it, you didn’t answer it!

I started the day at 180 and gone down from there.. i’m on temp. basal, is this a bad idea?????

Lots of Luck to all of us fasting (and all of us not;))!!!!!!!

sunburn is actually BH BLI AYIN HARA improving!!!

i am not fasting (i only do tsha bav and yom kippur.. have hard enough time with that…) i always feel bad eating though… i just think that at this point eating is MY mitzva because obviously if Hashem gave me D then this is what He wants of me and its a mitzva for me to take care of myself i guess…idk. people used to say to me “youre so lucky you dont have to fats” and im like “youre JOKING right?!?!” i wish i wouldnt have to not fast… but BH people realized what they were saying and they stopped!!!

princess- fasting is so hard how u managing? my doc once said that even though she doesnt think its good for me to fast and said i shouldnt if i dont have to, she thinks fasting is a goos way to test your basals, bec if theyre really what they should be then one cld technically be able to be level all day… so by tshv baav i always pay close attention to the patterns, even thiough i do a temp basal….

for those of you who are fasting… how low to you let it go before breaking? i will IyH set a limit for myself like if it goes under 65 ill eat. (i jst picked 65 idk what number i should use…)

    #980953

Yay Cofee, i’m so glad to hear that!!! i hope it has an immediate and complete recovery!!

About fasting versus not fasting – of course i know what you’re talking about! i’m like, will i make it to the end of the fast.. and there’s been times – including tisha b’av when i couldn’t fast.. (like the way you put it: “youre JOKING right?!?!” lol, right!!) Somebody once pointed out to me that the mitzvah is not to eat, so even if you are eating when you have to – when you’re not eating it’s still “fasting” … well not exactly but at least it sounds good 😉

The point about testing basal’s – well i also used to think that until somebody pointed out to me – i think it was Rabbi Meisals – that when you fast, as the day goes on you’re body needs less insulin because you’re fasting. Maybe because you’re not eating the body keeps the food and doesn’t break down the sugar..

If the numbers are good i see no reason why i shouldn’t fast.. on the contrary, when i eat i go so high, it’s the fasts when i actually have good numbers! i’ve checked it out with a Rav and my dr. and they both agree.

Talking of how low you let it go – one fast some years back before i even was on multiple injections, i let it go down to a 45 because i knew i’d start going up soon.. which did happen! My Dr at the time (changed since) blew a fit over it!! (yup, i understand it;))

i fasted until minchah. after that i had a small breakfast/lunch with a lot of water. then had a small supper and ate with everybody else after the fast. i do the same by tisha be’av. i wait till at least after chatzos.

i was told only to fast yom kippur. i thought that was what everyone does! its so hard just that day!!

    #980956

Same here, only yom kipur! sometimes not even that!

Every year before yom kipur, I call my rav (weismandl) and ask if I’m ‘allowed’ to fast. Whenever there’s a tiny thing about my health (eg, preg, nursing, after my operation, etc) he doesn’t let, he says just to take ‘shiurim’.

I also was sure everybody does the same, but I see I made a mistake!

About those comments of ‘you’re so lucky you can eat’, in the beginning, I was furious, but I got used to that, i don’t even hear it anymore! As they say in yiddish “az m’geveint zich in tsures, lebt men in freidn”. I know it’s not such a bad ‘tsure, but you get what I’m talking about, hopefully!

    #980957
    cofeefan

tralala- in the beginning i didnt fast on yom kippur at all either but as i grew older and got in better control i was able to do it…. i stay in bed a lot on tisha baav and test every hour…. its scary!!

princess- 45 is WAAAAY too low!!! its low for regular especially for a fast day!!!

dx3- how did you manage to fast? thats impressive!!!!

    #980958
    metooo
    Member

Princesseagle; 45!? That’s dangereous! I correct, generally for 65 and under

I only fast on Yom Kippur rest of the fasts I try till chatzos, ….just thinking about yom kippur around the corner makes me ‘flip’ 🙁

    #980959

That 45 was a one off!! And it was a few years back!! When i was bas mitzvah age and wanted to fast, i explained that to my Dr who didn’t know many yidden and tried to help as much as he could so he let me fast and gave me the guidelines. (of course i knew i’d have to break it if nec..) i kept a real close watch testing every few minutes to see if i was yet going higher.. i shouldn’t have done that..

These fasts i test often etc and like i said, it’s these days that i actually have good ##s. And i’ve not fasted all of them, when i didn’t on tisha b’av it was the hardest.. After the fast i make sure to cover really plenty and bh i was a decent number by morning;)

The thing is i didn’t like to touch my basal which i had to do in order to keep fasting..

Tralala, mind to translate what you said in yiddish?!! Lol

Cofee, how’s your burn? Metooo, guess you’ve not done swimming yet..
