alls- im so ecxited for you! isnt it great the freedom you feel? i knew you would love it! i hope it will only get better and better for you! are you happy with ur decision on the omnipod vs the other one? (i forgot what it was lol)
runs with scissor- i think its generally for type one but if a type 2 is on an insulin regimen then i think a pump could be benaficial for them as well. but again i dont really know
May 27, 2011 3:48 am at 3:48 am #980810allsgr8Participantalways run..- its mostly for type 1 I think. Type 2 usually dont need such a regimine of insulin.
May 27, 2011 11:55 am at 11:55 am #980811Mosh3Memberso what happened, i thought rabbi meisels was gonna make something for the guys, he told my mother before pesach that soon he is gonna have one. but i guess its just for girls or couples so dx, you are lucky and if he says anything new make sure to tell my mother or father(you know them). anyway how do you people feel about a boy with diabetes going to a yeshivishe camp and not telling anyone about the diabetes. i dont know if they have a nurse but my father’s rosh yeshiva’s wife, the rebitzen cooks there and of course she knows so just in case… i never had any issues when in camp as a matter of fact my numbers are great there so what should i do??
May 29, 2011 4:37 am at 4:37 am #980812dx3Membercofee-hurray that the foot is free. are you running the marathon yet? lol
princess- is this shabbos better than last?
alls- how was the first shabbos?????? isn’t it great to bolus wherever!!!! how are you hiding the pod?
mosh3- i will keep you in mind. i think that you should have one person who knows so just in case you need something you have somebody to help you. the rebitzen will not always be available for example on trips or at night etc…
guess what everybody this is my first time on a sensor. it feels weird. i have it in my stomach and its not so comfy. i am hoping to switch it to my leg. i realize that there is that lag time that i have to get used to.
May 29, 2011 4:38 am at 4:38 am #980813dx3Memberreb – i am not welcoming the new page i am leavingit to you
May 29, 2011 5:08 am at 5:08 am #980814rebbitzenMemberthank you!!!! WELCOMEEEEEEEEE!
May 29, 2011 5:41 am at 5:41 am #980815yossi z.Memberover 1500 posts. impressive. but what is even more impressive (at least to me) is the continued caring and sensitivity going on through the entirety of this thread. keep it up!
😀 Zuberman! 😀
May 29, 2011 5:02 pm at 5:02 pm #980816allsgr8ParticipantMosh3- I went away for the summer (camp sorta thing) and noone knew about my D. It worked out fine, Baruch Hashem no problems!
So, my first shabbos with the pump was awesome!!!! It was so good to just press a few buttons and not havta go up to my room and shoot! I really love it so far! I cant believe that I didnt get it until now but I guess hindsight is 2020! 🙂 🙂
dx3- I keep the pod on my abdomen and its totally not noticeable. My sister asked me why I wasnt wearing it on shabbbos cuz she couldnt see it LOL! 🙂 How’s it going with the sensor?
Again, Thank you all for your wonderful advice and support!! 🙂
May 29, 2011 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm #980817PrincessEagleMemberWhoa!!! Nobody can say we aren’t cool!!! Reaching page 31!!!!!
Yossi – you said it so nicely! Thumbs up in def. agreement!
Allsgr8, i’m so glad to hear how you’re already enjoying PUMPING!!!! It’s the best!! Dx3, so, do you find the sensor as great as people say it is??? Or as not – as – great as other people say!
Mosh3 about camp, i would say to do as dx3 says and have somebody who is gonna be there to “keep an eye on you” so to speak, a good friend or so.. i know that “most probably” nothing will happen but it’s not worth the chance! It’s only just the once for something to go wrong… (Been there, done that! Rem i was in hospital a few weeks back??)
On this side of things – dx thanks for asking.. This shabbos was way to many high’s… these days i cannot seem to get hold of it!!! It makes me so sad!!!!!
May 30, 2011 1:47 am at 1:47 am #980818popa_bar_abbaParticipantThere’s a story on Yahoo News right now about a guy who has been living with diabetes for 85 years. He just turned 90.
May 30, 2011 1:50 am at 1:50 am #980819PrincessEagleMemberCan you post a link? Thank you
Sorry, he cannot. (Maybe try searching?)
May 30, 2011 4:06 am at 4:06 am #980820dx3MemberThe sensor actually was irritating me and I took it off after two days. I will try again in a few days hopefully I will be Able to tolerate it better
May 30, 2011 4:27 am at 4:27 am #980821cofeefanMemberi have the same prob dx3- it starts itching/burning on my skin soooo badly i cant wear it for long! weird bec its the same adhesive as the pump no?
other than that do you like it?
May 30, 2011 11:15 pm at 11:15 pm #980822dx3MemberCofee- you are right about that it does itch. I was waking up in the middle of the night at one point because it was burning and itching me. Even after I pulled it out that feeling was there for the next day.
I did think that it was pretty cool how it worked and I did try harder to keep in range like for example I would wait longer and prebolus before eating so that my number would be more optimal.
I am going to try a different spot and hopefully it will feel better.
How are you feeling now that the boot is off?
This shabbos is the fwd event. I heard that neesha will be there. I am so excited to meet again. Maybe I can convince neesha to come back to Brooklyn. Lol
May 31, 2011 3:16 am at 3:16 am #980823cofeefanMemberit feels weird to have the boot off, but bh it doesnt hurt much (only at the end of the day when ive been on it all day….) i tried to exercise again tonight but i could only do 20 minutes cuz i didnt wanna hurt it again… im a bit upset at that because i need to get back in shape… 7 weeks without any exercise makes that difficult! im depressed abt how i look i wish i could change! its so hard even without the D!!
May 31, 2011 11:03 pm at 11:03 pm #980824PrincessEagleMemberSounds like – so much for all the wonders of the gcm.. but as they say – nothing good comes without effort.. Hope it’s worth it dx3 and cofeefan! Cofeefan, you wear one the whole time? Good for ya! Great that your booty is OFF, so glad!!!! May G-d make it a simple change straight back into normal routine..
Talk of feeling depressed with the weight… .. . i’m with ya on that one. ..
May 31, 2011 11:34 pm at 11:34 pm #980825dx3MemberCofee- hopefully after shabbos you will be back to normal.
I tried the cgm on my leg this time and so far it is not so bothersom. One thing that is a little tricky with the cgm is calibrating it when I can’t eat. I have to have that two hour period then wait before doing the six hour calibration. I always have to keep in mind If I am allowed to eat now. But I must admit that I do appreciate it and like the purpose that it fills. The food thing also is that if I want to take a break from wearing it I can as apposed to the pump where I can’t do that.
Princess- hang in there do not give up we are with you
June 1, 2011 1:50 pm at 1:50 pm #980826forever1MemberDx3 gad you like it. Abt the itching; try different had tape, like tegederm etc, I had the same problem and switching brands helped. The stomach is the worse place, dunno why they always train on that area, it’s so annoying!
You don’t have to wait 6 hrs for the next calibration, anytime before works too. I’ve even read somewhere that calibrating 3x in a row 5 min apart at startup improved the accuracy since the sensors algorithm uses an average of the last 3 calibrations…
Wishing u lots of luck, theres a big learning curve….
June 2, 2011 3:09 am at 3:09 am #980827dx3MemberForever – you are absolutely right. The stomach really is not the place to do it. On my leg it does feel better but after a day or so I starts to irritate me.
I was wondering if I can tape down the sensor with a bandaid instead of the iv3000. It doesn’t cover the whole thing and then water gets in.
You have a good point about doing it 3x In a row. I will try it hopefully next time.
June 2, 2011 2:10 pm at 2:10 pm #980828forever1MemberDx3: try calling medtronic, they have a kit with several types of tapes you can try. Bandaid is not the best idea, it’ll come off fast and increase the risk of the sensor being pulled out accidentally.
I’ve never tries calibrating 3x in a row, it logically sounds like a good idea. I think I’ve seen it in one of the FWD books.

June 3, 2011 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm #980839apushatayidParticipantMosh3. Perhaps it is the father in me worrying a little to much. I have a teenage son, type 1. I would NEVER let him go to sleep away (or even day camp)camp without people knowing that he had type 1, understood what it meant, understood insulin therapy and understood how his pump worked and how to use it. I would even be sure there was someone who knew how to give insulin injections with a syringe in case the pump malfunctioned (which it has, several times, in the 7 years he has it) This doesnt mean that everyone in the camp must be told, but certainly, the director, division head, counselor camp doctor and/or nurse. I dont know how you and your family feel about “people knowing”, but my son has no issues with telling people. He doesnt broadcast it, but he doesnt hide his pump either (he wears it clipped to his belt like a cellphone). Do you wear some sort of medical ID (bracelet, chain, attachment to watch)? My son wont, but he does carry a card in his wallet with pertinent info.
June 3, 2011 9:21 pm at 9:21 pm #980840rebbitzenMemberallsgr8, youre gonna have to tell us some more details then that! 🙂 how did you say it? did he say he has to think it over? is he a typical yeshiva guy, cuz i feel that the less yeshivish you are, the more open you are, which is not that great in my case since i want a typical yeshiva guy…but tell us more!!!
June 5, 2011 2:34 am at 2:34 am #980841allsgr8Participantreb- okay, I dont really want to post too many details here ..im sure you can understand but just to calm you down ill give you a bit 🙂 After I told him he did think about it for a couple of days..but then eventually bh came back with the answer 🙂 He is a typical Yeshiva guy (learning in Lkwd-hope that doesnt give him away JK LOL!) so I dont think that Yeshiva guys are less open to such a thing..it depends on the particular boy. The right person and good person can look beyond the D and see whats inside…
Dont ever worry that your shidduch will be affected negatively because of the D cuz that’s not possible. Hashem runs the world and He is in charge of bringing two people together no matter what!!
(If you ever want/need more details when the time comes iyh we can try to get in touch- I would love to help..encourage etc..)
June 5, 2011 2:45 am at 2:45 am #980842rebbitzenMemberwow! thanks allsgr8! i’m so happy for you! and i feel reassured that he is a typical yeshiva guy..I guess i’ll just wait and see!
June 6, 2011 9:07 pm at 9:07 pm #980843apushatayidParticipantAllsgr8.
Even a “typical yeshiva guy” (or by girl) would (probably should) say no, if after speaking to endocronologist they find that the person does a horrible job of managing their diabetes, or worse.
June 7, 2011 3:34 am at 3:34 am #980844dx3Membertrue if a person is neglegent and doesn’t take care of themself then that is not a good sign. however if one does take care of themself there is no reason to worry that a person should say no espesially when one can live a normal life.
shabbos was truly AMAZING. speaches from dr.s and rabonim. food, dancing, the feeling of oneness. its just impossible to describe.
i just hope they can do it again.
June 7, 2011 4:24 am at 4:24 am #980845allsgr8Participantapushatayid- We’re talking about people that b’h have very good control….there’s no reason not to go ahead with a shidduch if they take care of themselves and have good A1c’s.
June 7, 2011 5:04 am at 5:04 am #980846rebbitzenMemberidk..my a1c is like 8.3 now, but i’m working on it..and i go out… hope that’s ok!
June 7, 2011 10:08 am at 10:08 am #980847apushatayidParticipantI didn’t suggest otherwise. All I said was one who takes a lackadasical or cavalier attitude toward their diabetes is not a legitimate shidduch candidate and it has nothing to do with their diabetes.
June 7, 2011 11:11 am at 11:11 am #980848PrincessEagleMemberyeah, like go talk about having good control before going out… .. lets keep praying for each other and may g-d finally give us the good control and shidduchim!
My “ok” and “down arrow” pump buttons aren’t working properly! The plastic has come off and it’s not pressing down easily at all!! For now i’m using the audio bolus which gets kind of annoying and i somehow managed to change the insulin cartridge.. The ###s are impossible!
Animas said they’ll deliver me a new one! What color should i choose?? I have already blue so i don’t want that… The choice is green, pink, silver or black!! (like this should be the hardest decision …)
June 7, 2011 1:15 pm at 1:15 pm #980849allsgr8Participantprincess- I say go for the the green 🙂 Good Luck with your numbers over Shavous!! ill definitely have you in mind in my prayers as always…
Have a wonderful Yom tov everyone!!
June 7, 2011 1:35 pm at 1:35 pm #980850cofeefanMemberi say get pink princess! you are a princess after all! lol
but i like green too!
whatever you chose it should just help you!
have a good yomtov everyone!
June 7, 2011 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm #980851PrincessEagleMemberi’ve said green although cofee i’m not sure that pink isn’t a better idea!! But whatever.. yeah, it should just be good..
Is it a bad idea to go on pens for yom tov?? Over my pump where i can use the audio option..
Lotsa luck to all of us….lots of food and lots of carbs 😉 may g-d just give to us those good ##s!!!!!
??? ??? ??? – and a happy one!!!!!!!
June 12, 2011 2:31 am at 2:31 am #980852dx3MemberWow, I felt like I was eating all this past week. Time to go on a diet. Just to cut out on snacking and try smaller size portions ( if that is possible).
June 13, 2011 12:13 am at 12:13 am #980853cofeefanMemberlol dx3 join the club!!!! i forsure gained a zillion pounds over shavuos!!! buut it was worth it (i think!)
i love how you said “if that is possible” because i know exactly what you are talkingabout… how much less could i eat?!?!?! ok not talking abt yomtov because i ate wtvr i felt like, but i think thats acceptable no? im talking about everyday… i eat very little carbs already so how shld i go on a diet? ill just be extra careful i guess! it was just funny how you said it 😉
June 19, 2011 5:56 am at 5:56 am #980854rebbitzenMemberguys! whats happened to our lively thread! i had to go fishing through old threads to find this!!! mah kara?!
June 19, 2011 6:13 am at 6:13 am #980855HealthParticipantrebbitzen -As a Rebbitzen, you need to preach more.
June 19, 2011 6:35 am at 6:35 am #980856rebbitzenMemberok i’m preaching! everyone has to keep posting! especially the kallahs!
