first of all congrats on reaching page 22
second i have an answer for all you. if this is the right one for you reb. then we will all go to the vort and we will all meet. jk
by then it wont make much of a difference.lol
it happens to be that i am not so secretive about my D. because of this i have had many people come over to me to speak to me about their (or their child’s) situations about shidduchim. B”H i was able to help people with it. i even tried to save a shidduch explaining to them what is D (after the dr. said the wrong thing!)
bec. of this i know many people, both boys and girls, who have D. (there is even one person that i know who writes on this forum!)
for all of you in the parsha, i am married with kids so don’t let it interfere. the right one will want you as you are, for the way you are. B”h we have something that is controllable and not worse!!!
keep up the good work. 🙂
March 28, 2011 4:41 am at 4:41 am #980352cofeefanMemberwow dx3 you ALWAYS know what to say! i am AMAZED by you and your attitude! what advice could you give us in regards to shidduchim?
March 28, 2011 7:08 pm at 7:08 pm #980353PrincessEagleMemberHey Reb – that’s great!!! I almost feel like i know ya lot here because i’ve been reading back lots of pages 🙂
Do you keep to the praying for each other daily, saying ????? – what 2 were they???
So were you by the FWD Shabbosos?
Allsgr8 your “all is great” attitude is already rubbing on to me …
i look forward to read what you wrote! To answer the question, (or to not ans it?!?! Jk) no, it wasn’t always this way although i’ve been pretty out of control for couple of years now… Course there were times (in these years) when i really did try and even succeeded but never for longer than couple of days, weeks at most..,
March 28, 2011 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm #980354dx3Memberfirst of all you should all know, that i am speaking from a boy’s perspective.
when s/o in shidduchim hears about an issue, the first thing that comes to mind is- will this restrict or handicap the person in any way? so really, the first thing to do when you tell someone that you have D is to impress upon them that you are not in any way restricted, and you CAN do everything that anyone else can do.
secondly (i said this earlier), and this is how i felt, that because of the “issue,” it’s sort of a “test” for the right prince charming to accept. so in a way it was calming for me to know that the right one will accept me as i am.
and of course we want someone to accept us for who we really are.
Also, don’t ever get stuck in regreting something you said or did, after the date’s over, just know that Hashem was the One guiding the date, you didn’t mess up, whatever you said was good, it was meant to be!
reb- so hang in there and get good nights rest beforehand, and try to have fun. 🙂
March 28, 2011 7:18 pm at 7:18 pm #980355dx3Memberprincess- are you incontact with a D educator to help with your control?
March 28, 2011 9:10 pm at 9:10 pm #980356allsgr8ParticipantprincessEagle- glad my attitude is rubbing off 🙂 I still say the tehillim I dont know if the others do. .. Its perakim 20 and 130. (sorry dont know how to write hebrew letters)
I really wish you would take control of yourself again princessEagle. Diabetes is not easy but its also something that b’h today we are able to control. Hashem gave us the means to control the disease and we have to do our best at using those tools to keep healthy.
I also have those moments when I feel like giving up but I tell myself that for every fingerstick and every injection that I do I get a mitzva of “vnishmartem me’od l’nafshoseichem.” This really keeps me going because I feel like I have an extra mitzva that other “healthy” people dont have. Think about it…and Try it!
On the humorous side of things think of it like this: Aside from just being an ordinary human being you’re also a walking talking pancreas!!! Now that is COOL! 🙂
March 28, 2011 9:15 pm at 9:15 pm #980357allsgr8ParticipantDX3- I feel the same way about being accepted for who I am. I also feel and hope that the boy that will be willing to “sacrifice” so to speak will be a mature, good hearted, and caring person who looks beyond the surface. These are the things that count in life and this gives me chizuk!
March 28, 2011 11:30 pm at 11:30 pm #980358dx3Memberallsgr8- listen you know he is out there. remember 40 days before someone is born…
you will see the boy will accept all of you, even a non working pancreas. you also don,t have to tell them that you have D until you feel that there is potential (3-4 dates). thats what i was told to do.
March 28, 2011 11:32 pm at 11:32 pm #980359dx3Memberprincess – i am sorry. i realized that i never welcomed you to this forum. so lets go back to page 21 and hi welcome.
may it be that only peaple say “hi” to you and not your meter! 🙂
March 28, 2011 11:35 pm at 11:35 pm #980360sweettoothMemberMarch 28, 2011 11:55 pm at 11:55 pm #980361PrincessEagleMemberWelcome sweettooth!!! May you indeed get lots of chizuk and friendship out of here, we’re sure to get lots of chizuk from you too..
March 29, 2011 12:01 am at 12:01 am #980362PrincessEagleMemberdx3 – thanks for your welcome… Hey, d’you too get lots of “Hi’s” from your meter?? Actually i prefer it not to show any discriminating evidence which usually means less “black holes” on my fingers..
Well today was a good one with my numbers – first in a veryy long time (perhaps this forum helped??) i don’t think i can do it for another day though. i’ve tried before, it lasts a couple of days and then that’s it. But i know that if i give up again this time i’ll really be in trouble..
March 29, 2011 12:04 am at 12:04 am #980363allsgr8ParticipantWelcome Sweetooth! (love ur screename!)
Wow your A1c is awesome!! How’d you do that?
Do you keep your D a secret or are you open about it? ..sorry for all the q’s 🙂 I’m 21, type 1 and also in shidduchim 🙂 You should read back a bit so u can get to know us..btw Rebbitzen is a girl too! lol
Glad you joined!
March 29, 2011 12:10 am at 12:10 am #980364allsgr8Participantdx3- that’s right!!
Once when I was going out I was so nervous about telling on the third date cuz I didnt feel i was ready for that so we asked and were told that I should only tell when I feel that “this can go somewhere” as long as its not tooo late. knowing that I wasnt pressured to tell at a certain # date was a relief … 3-4 is usually the right time though depending on the situation
March 29, 2011 12:38 am at 12:38 am #980365rebbitzenMemberWELCOME SWEETTOOTH…and that a1c is seriously not normal! i’m sooo jealous!!! mine is in the 8’s. gulp! anyways, thanks guys for the chizuk! i hope it goes well…about to give the go ahead on my end…
March 29, 2011 12:44 am at 12:44 am #980366dx3Memberwelcome sweettooth. we are happy for you to join the most popular forum on this site. we hope to help you and you help us too.
wow A1c in the fives. i had D for 18 years now, and never did i get an a1c in the fives (except for the first a1c’s which was because i was still on a honeymoon). well keep up the good work!! 🙂
also i myself tried to get a sensor, but because my a1c was always around 7 i was always denied. 🙁
so how were you able to get it?
March 29, 2011 12:46 am at 12:46 am #980367dx3Membercofeefan – a mention to you how you are always quick to compliment. i think you have a very good attitude yourself.
but thanks for the compliments graetly appreciated.
March 29, 2011 2:50 am at 2:50 am #980368cofeefanMemberwelcome sweettooth!wow i cant believe how many people with type1 around the same age there is!!! im so glad we all discovered eachother! seems like i missed a lot of posts in the last few hours! (thats what i get for actually working t work huh?!?)
I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU HAVE AN A1C IN THE 5S!!!!! AMAZING!!!! how did you do that?!?!?! (and i was all proud of my 6.6!) wow! i am in awe! are you very very strict with what you eat? what about exercise?
allsgr8- when you told the boy on the 3rd date (thats what we were told too…) what did you say? we had this convo a while back so i was just wondering what you said…. like out of the blue type or u worked it in? (oh and teh walking talking pancreas line…. LOVE IT!!!)
reb- i’ll be davening for you! keep us posted =)
dx3- thanks for your compliment lol! i happen to think its very good for us to have the male point of view especially cuz you have D the longest from all of us i think….. plus if you factor in ur kids….. lets just say i consider you an expert lol!
princess- i hate the black holes on my fingers too! but dont you still need to test even though you have the sensor?
any1 have any ideas how to get thoe pesky little black dots from testing off the fingers? they drive me nuts!
(Ok i think i got everything in….. did i miss anything?!?!?!)
March 29, 2011 3:04 am at 3:04 am #980369dx3Memberabout those black tatoos that seem to never go away, try to put your lancet device on a lower setting. that has worked for me. also did you hear of the multiclix? its a newer device and we really love it.
March 29, 2011 3:11 am at 3:11 am #980370allsgr8Participantcofeefan- I just brought it up out of the blue pretty much..well not totally cuz we had discussed why I am going for the degree that I am going for (in health field) and I sort of gave a vague answer “just cuz i like it”- same answer I give everyone else..So I said remember you asked me why im becoming a ___ well now I have to tell you the real reason…and then I told him…and the story of how, when, what, where was just for interest sake..He didnt ask to many questions I think he didnt want to pry cuz he was afraid I didnt want to talk about it.
About the black dots- mine arent really noticeable. Maybe you should lower the lancing number. I do it on #2.
March 29, 2011 3:14 am at 3:14 am #980371yossi z.MemberHi guys! Just poking my nose back in here to let y’all know I am still here hanging around keeping an eye out.
Welcome to princesseagle and sweettooth!!
Good luck rebbetzin! As someone posted earlier, keep us posted 🙂
Keep the good work up (the support and warmth I can tangibly feel in here too). I feel slightly off that this is all I can really say …
😀 Zuberman! 😀
March 29, 2011 3:17 am at 3:17 am #980372allsgr8ParticipantPrincessEagle- Congrats on having a good day! If you did it today you can for sure do it again tomorrow c’mon!!
YOU CAN DO IT YOU CAN DO IT!!!
March 29, 2011 3:17 am at 3:17 am #980373dx3Memberi brought it up by drinking diet soda on the date. and she asked DIET SODA? and then i went on and on and on….
March 29, 2011 3:24 am at 3:24 am #980374allsgr8ParticipantDx3- that’s a great idea!!!! Maybe ill try that one next time around (and hopefully the right time around!!)
didnt she notice that you drank diet soda on the other dates though? lol
March 29, 2011 3:35 am at 3:35 am #980375cofeefanMemberdx3- what is multiclix? i googled it but it seems like a regular lancet to me besides the multiple lanncets in one “thingy” (for lack of better word….)
i set mine on 3 sometimes 4 because it doesnt seem to draw enough blood if its any lower and i hate having to push it out!
great idea about the soda 😉 only prob is if the boy thinks ots normal for girls to drink diet soda….
princess- why dont you try to focus on ONE point in the day getting ur numbers perfect. lets say breakfast till lunch (4-5 hours). take that one time frame and give it ur best full attention… meaning bolusing perfectly, testing regularly in that frame correcting etc. then after youve mastered that mmove on to the next time. but dont rush yourself to the next step if your not up to it! that way it doesnt seem like its overwhelming or too much etc.
March 29, 2011 3:47 am at 3:47 am #980376allsgr8ParticipantGreat idea coffefan! Princess- I think you should try that way
March 29, 2011 3:49 am at 3:49 am #980377dx3Membercofeefan- the multiclix has 6 needles in a drum, so it’s really easy to change the needle each time you test which is better b/c once you use the needle it gets a bit blunted and it is more likely to cause dots, also the needle is really thin and so much more gentle, and the whole thing is safer because the needles are inside you can’t get hurt by accident and you can throw it str8 into the garbage (no need for a sharps container)
also my kids love it because it hardly hurts.
back to dating: i would mention that “i only drink diet soda”. this way i would arouse her suspicion and she would ask me “why”.
this way it was an opening for the conversation.
try it see what happens. 🙂
March 29, 2011 3:58 am at 3:58 am #980378emittroseMemberCandy, specifically sugar candy, is a confection made from a concentrated solution of sugar in water, to which flavorings and colorants are added. Candies come in numerous colors and varieties and have a long history in popular culture.
[1] In North America, candy is a broad category that includes candy bars, chocolates, licorice, sour candies, salty candies, tart candies, hard candies, taffies, gumdrops, marshmallows, and more.[citation needed] Vegetables, fruit, or nuts which have been glazed and coated with sugar are said to be candied.
Outside North America, the generic English-language name for candy is sweets or confectionery (UK, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and other Commonwealth countries). In Australia and New Zealand sweets are, in normal usage, further categorized as either chocolate or lollies (for all other non-chocolate candies).
In North America, the UK, and Australia, the word lollipop refers specifically to sugar candy with flavoring on a stick. While not used in the generic sense of North America, the term candy is used in the UK for specific types of foods such as candy floss (cotton candy in North America and fairy floss in Australia), and certain other sugar based products such as candied fruit.
March 29, 2011 3:59 am at 3:59 am #980379emittroseMemberMarch 29, 2011 4:00 am at 4:00 am #980380cofeefanMemberoh i get it dx3- thats a good idea im gonna look into getting them…
same thing also with the diet soda! i will try that iyh when the right time comes…. (dont think i should worry about that yet though… sigh:( yoish!)
this thread is just too interesting i cant go to sleep cuz im scared im gonna miss something!
March 29, 2011 4:37 am at 4:37 am #980381allsgr8ParticipantAlso, dont forget to tell the boy that you want this to remain between you, him and only the people he needs to discuss it with..you dont want it getting around the whole world
March 29, 2011 6:18 am at 6:18 am #980382rebbitzenMemberhi yossi z! welcome back! and yes, e/o is pretty friendly and we all look out for each other..but dont be jealous! i’d rather not have to be part of it..:)
March 29, 2011 11:54 am at 11:54 am #980383yossi z.MemberI have been lurking the whole time, I just thought I would actually poke my nose in once every while. Thank you for making me not feel off (awkward?) Anymore 🙂
😀 Zuberman! 😀
March 29, 2011 1:41 pm at 1:41 pm #980384cofeefanMemberhuh emittrose????? i dont get what that has to do with anything
March 29, 2011 1:42 pm at 1:42 pm #980385cofeefanMemberand reb- i wish none of us had to be here but if we have to be at least were all here iin this situation together and help eachother thru the D 😉
March 29, 2011 2:50 pm at 2:50 pm #980386rebbitzenMemberagreed cofeefan!!
March 29, 2011 2:51 pm at 2:51 pm #980387rebbitzenMemberbtw, i think its so funny, how sometimes this blog is ..dead…and i have to go fish it out cuz its not even on the main page, and sometimes like now, its wild! and a new post every couple minutes! 🙂
March 29, 2011 4:58 pm at 4:58 pm #980388PrincessEagleMemberYes, it’s sure amazing how many posts i’ve missed since i was here last! I’m glad i found this forum 🙂 Thank you for your replies!
Allsgr8 – you can say the “you can do it” like a hundred more times… Cofeefan, taking it one step – perhaps it could work but i don’t know.. I like to aim for all the way but i know it’s hardly likely to last. But this time it really must!!!! If my A1C hasn’t shown any improvement since the last time she’s gonna take away my pump and i fought tooth and nail for it! Then of course, i have to get that control just to live a happy life and i want the (right!) guy to consider me when the time comes..
But in a sense it’s so much easier to just “ignore” it, it’s almost a kind of denial..
Cofeefan, i don’t have the CGM (they’d never consider giving it to me, like you said dx3 with you, though if i ever get my A1c to the 7s i think they’ll be delighted.)
Reb – how’s it going? Were you ever at the FWD shabbotons?
March 29, 2011 4:58 pm at 4:58 pm #980389PrincessEagleMemberSweetTooth? You’re not coming on to check how you too have been welcomed here??!
March 29, 2011 6:29 pm at 6:29 pm #980390allsgr8ParticipantI was never at the shabbatons…
March 29, 2011 6:47 pm at 6:47 pm #980391dx3Memberprincess- doesn’t the insurance company give you a cgm when you are out of control? that’s why i was denied!
March 29, 2011 6:51 pm at 6:51 pm #980392dx3Memberyou guys should all go to the next FWD shabbaton. thereby you all will meet each other (i of course will be left out)
i went to one, and it was very nice.
r. meisels wanted to make a shabbaton for couples but it didn’t work out. 🙁 i really wanted to go!
March 29, 2011 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #980393sweettoothMemberMarch 29, 2011 7:02 pm at 7:02 pm #980394dx3Membersweet- good for you.
i don’t feel like losing control in order to get a sensor, so i guess i will have to do without it.
but i see if there is a will there is a way.
way to go
March 29, 2011 8:08 pm at 8:08 pm #980395PrincessEagleMemberYeah Sweettooth, you continuously amaze me at your strength!! Pass some over here… What about you others? How on earth do you do it???? i’ve lost it completely! Dx3 – they won’t give to me the CGM because the control is too bad…get it? Like, first take insulin and everything properly and then maybe a CGM would help improve to even tighter control.
i’m beginning to wonder if i’ll ever see a good A1C again!!!!!!
March 29, 2011 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #980396PrincessEagleMemberI know that at one point Rabbi Meisals was “considering” to make a shabbaton for older girls – rather than from 12+ but i wonder if it will ever make it off the ground!
Dx3 – you went as a married couple with kids? Allsgr8 – the others surely would’ve gained from having you there (are you always so positive or only on here?!) and wouldn’t you have gained from going too??
March 29, 2011 8:41 pm at 8:41 pm #980397cofeefanMemberthats it im not working at work anymore cuz i missed too much AGAIN!!!
no i never went on a shabatton though Rabbi meisels has tried and tried but i dont think i ever would
its so weird becuase i got the sensor no problem and i have pretty good control bh! i dont use it that often but its good to have.
pricess- do you have any ideas why you feel like you cant control? what part specifically is hardest for you?
sweettooth- what would you say is the one thing you think that helped you to acheive the amazing a1c? if you had to sum it up to one thing… and which endo do you use?
hey allsgr8- remmeber whn it was just us 2 for a while struggling to keeo this thread “alive”?!? dont you like it better this way?! lol
March 29, 2011 10:34 pm at 10:34 pm #980398sweettoothMemberYou people are too quick for me!!!!! 😉 😀
March 29, 2011 10:52 pm at 10:52 pm #980399cofeefanMembersweettooth- i just started bolusing 15 minutes before but i think thats not enough time because it still goes up (not so high but i wanna try for not havong it go up at all or very little…)think it will help if i wait another 5 minutes? my doc suggested waiting between bolus and eating 2 times ago when i was by her which was in november so i tried it and it brought my a1c down from 7.3 to 6.6 (combined with other adjustments…) so im a big fan of it though its not always easy to remember to do that!!!
i use Dr. wallach in mount sinai in manhhattan and i like her. prob is that shes a pediatric doc so idk if she would start someone new if theyre not techinically a child… i should really start looking for a regular one… 🙁
i cant get over how many of us there are now! im so EXCITED we all gain from eachother (i know i love to read what y’all have to say!!!!) yay!
March 29, 2011 11:01 pm at 11:01 pm #980400allsgr8ParticipantWow! I leave my computer for a couple of hours and I miss everything!!! 🙂
Coffefan- totally remember those days..glad we dont have to struggle to make conversation anymore lol..Its really amazing whats happening here and im so happy cuz we have more people to learn from 🙂
sweetooth- You are too amazing for me! I wish I could have such an A1c..my last one was 7.1 but its usually in the 6’s. We’re you using Neesha at Maimo? Im using kazachkova starting to get annoyed with her so I want to find an adult endo soon..
PrincessEagle- I didnt go to the shabbatons cuz I keep my D secret and I only got it when I was 18 and soon to be in shidduchim so I just never went… Bh I discovered this support group..dont know what I’d do without it.
about me being this way in real life, I’m pretty much the same but I dont express myself so much in real life..I’d probably have a hard time saying all the things I say here in person. That’s why I like this place so much :)))
btw everyone I decided that as soon as one of us gets engaged we have to find a way to invite e/o to the vort so we can finally meet!!!!
