January 18, 2011 10:41 pm at 10:41 pm #980046allsgr8ParticipantHi Coffefan!
Since I am on injections (How many times did I say that? :)) I find that every probably 3 months I need to re-adjust my lantus -(aka basal rate on the pump) Sometimes I need to lower my lantus because I experience exactly what you describe. I do not know what it is from but I usually contribute it to weight loss or lack of sleep..stress etc. Maybe u need to lower your basal rate. Did you lose weight recently?
January 19, 2011 12:40 am at 12:40 am #980047cofeefanMemberi lost like 5 pounds but thats not major right? its like i eat and it goes up but then goes right back down again it’s so frutrating. i eat protein to make it stay up (my doc said its really important to do that) but it still goes back down its so annoying!
January 19, 2011 2:18 am at 2:18 am #980048allsgr8ParticipantHey 5 pounds can definitely make a difference (congrats on the weight loss btw!) If i lose 5 pounds it really helps my numbers. Was it a rapid weight loss?
In either case if u’ve been like this for three days already I would adjust the basal rate. Maybe speak to your doc.
About the protein thing..i dont find that it helps. If you over-insulinate then u’ll fall low no matter what- just my opinion.
January 19, 2011 6:01 pm at 6:01 pm #980049cofeefanMemberno it was not rapid it was over 2 and a half weeks. i probably should change my basals. i am nervous though that it will stop and then my numbers will be high. think i should just try it anyways? (this whole diabetes thing is a game of trial and error i guess…)
what do you eat when you have a low?
January 19, 2011 7:10 pm at 7:10 pm #980050allsgr8ParticipantTrial and error is right!
Based on e/t your saying I think you should lower the basal but not too much at once. Start with a small change and gradually change it until your numbers are straight again.
I usually drink orange juice or eat candy when im low. If im really in the mood of fruit ill eat that but i find that it takes too long for me to feel better after a low if I eat fruit.
January 20, 2011 12:07 am at 12:07 am #980051cofeefanMembermy friends father who is a doctor just pointed this out: i was sick with a stomach virus on shabbos when this started, he said that being sick takes a lot from the body so he said it makes sense that i kept going low. he said i should wait a few days till it completely passes out of my system before i make any changes.
January 20, 2011 4:50 am at 4:50 am #980052allsgr8ParticipantI say listen to the doc! 🙂
February 2, 2011 4:25 am at 4:25 am #980053cofeefanMemberoh come on guys what’s with us?!? we could do better than this!
how come it’s been a week? everyone’s taking great control?! i guess i should be happy to hear that but i liked the support group!
February 2, 2011 5:09 am at 5:09 am #980054allsgr8ParticipantSeems like the only way to keep a CR topic going is if you talk about shidduchim! Anyone?!
February 2, 2011 5:29 am at 5:29 am #980055cofeefanMemberlol- well i haven’t even beem redd anything in a while so i got nothing!
February 13, 2011 6:10 pm at 6:10 pm #980056rebbitzenMemberno one is saying yes to me for shidduchim! i know for sure in one case it’s because they found out i had diabetes! i’m really starting to get depressed..and nervous that this is how it’s gonna be…its not fair! i’m totally normal, i just have to take my blood sugar once in a while! HELP!
February 13, 2011 6:44 pm at 6:44 pm #980057cofeefanMemberWELCOME BACK REBITZEN!! i was wondering where you were!
i know exactly what you mean! i have been thinking about that too lately! im really scared for people to find out about it! just recently i was forced to tell someone about it (nothing to do with shidduchim….) and she automatically assumed it was type 2 and that i shouldnt eat sugar etc etc and i got sooo frustrated trying to explain it!! i guess al we could do is daven to Hashem to help guide us on the right path and when the time is right with the right person He should put the words in our mouths so we will know what to say to make the boys understand how we are perfectly normal (and in some cases prob healthier than most people…..)
thats what i keep telling myself… just daven and Hashem will help! i saw this quote on one of the threads here last week and i keep repeating it in my head “Emunah kicks in when logic checks out” it really helps!
and know that we are here to listen to you vent because we really understand what you feel from first hand experience!!!
February 13, 2011 6:50 pm at 6:50 pm #980058rebbitzenMemberthank you coffefan! that means a lot to me! i like that quote! its really hard. everyone has their shita’s abt saying once it gets serious, but i cant even get a date. and i;m a good girl! i wish if ppl were asked, they didnt need to tell them that i had diabetes! its so annoying
February 13, 2011 8:16 pm at 8:16 pm #980059cofeefanMemberi know what you mean… i don’t even get redt anything but idk if that has to do with diabetes or not…. its really frustrating!
i’m going to my doc tomorrow… i’ve been so good BH lately! i just did the bayer home A1C tester kit. it said 8.3!!!!! i was SHOCKED!!!! i havent been that high for years!!! and i was really working hard these past 3 months! so i did it again and it said 8.4!!! i am sooooo upset now! what am i gonna do if thats what i get for working as hard as i did!!! whats the point?!?!
February 13, 2011 10:33 pm at 10:33 pm #980060allsgr8ParticipantRebbitzen- I understand how you feel and its a very difficult nisayon to still have emunah and bitachon when you see no’s straight out..However, the Novominsker Rebbe said that No shidduch will be pushed away becuase of Diabetes and that anyone that says no to a shidduch because of diabetes it means that the shidduch was never meant to be! Hashem has someone else in mind.
Keep strong you’ll see that when the right one comes along iyh VERY SOON your diabetes will absolutely not get in the way!!
Hashem runs the world and no shidduch is too hard for him to put together! Remember that 🙂
February 13, 2011 11:32 pm at 11:32 pm #980061rebbitzenMemberwow! thanks for the chizuk! i really need it! and coffeefan, i havent even checked my a1c in a long time. its forsure that high! i can’t get my numbers under control! i dont want diabetes anymore! i had it for long enough 🙁
February 13, 2011 11:44 pm at 11:44 pm #980062foodluverMemberrebetzein, i know how you feel, but dont get depressed. think of having diabetes as a bracha! u have a great oppurtunity to become sensitive and thoughtful about others! and Hashem is going to send ur basheret to you and he is going to be RLY sensitive and caring! all of us wish our bashert is going to be that.. and you have a certain that he will!
February 14, 2011 12:03 am at 12:03 am #980063cofeefanMemberallsgr8- very nice words thanks for the chizuk!
i know reb i know!! i want it to go away too! sometimes i just feel like what’s the point but then i think that Hashem doesn’t do things “just because” so there must be a point! but that doesnt mean that it’s not hard because it is as i’m sure we all know and we could all give pages after pages of reasons that it is hard/unfair/upsetting/ depressing etc. we just have to know that we are doing this for a reason even though we don’t understand it! i know it’s hard and easier said than done but we will all get through it!!!
foodluver- thanks for your kind words! nice point of view i am gonna try thinking like that!
February 14, 2011 12:14 am at 12:14 am #980064rebbitzenMembergrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr….thanks…i’m usually not this down, you should know..its just that i just got a no for this reason, and its just annoying…IY”H we’ll see things more clearly soon..
February 14, 2011 12:28 am at 12:28 am #980065allsgr8ParticipantRebbitzen- Dont worry we all have those “down” times..its normal. Iyh they’ll be over very very soon!
Sometimes I think that maybe the whole reason that I had to get diabetes is becuae otherwise I wouldnt marry my bashert..like if ill end up settling on something that I otherwise wouldnt have settled on (famliy, health, age etc). About the boy himslef though, I believe that because of my diabetes hashem has a REALLY special, kind, sensitive boy in store for me 🙂
foodluver- Welcome! Do you also have diabetes?
cofeefan- Yikes! I am also going to the doc this week (I think we went the same week last time too lol) Im sooo nervous becuase I know that my A1c’s arent gonna be good. I have been so bad lately i dont know what to do with myself. I feel like i act as if i dont have diabetes and eat whatever i want and just cover with insulin and I dont like it this way!!!!! I want to be in control and i feel like i am giving in to myself way too much! HELP! Im terrified of the yelling im gonna get from my doc!
February 14, 2011 12:30 am at 12:30 am #980066cofeefanMemberoysh rebbitzen i can imagine how that feels and don’t worry it’s this guy’s loss!! u are an amazing person and you don’t even want someone who wont give you a chance because of a silly thing like diabetes! he prob wasnt good enough for you anyways so it saves you time!!! just hang in there it will get better!!!!! keep venting it always helps!! i’m here for you!!!
February 14, 2011 1:03 am at 1:03 am #980067cofeefanMemberallsgr8- thats funny how we keep going the same time! (my next appointment is may 23rd so try to get something near there for ur next one too so we can keep this “tradition” up lol jk) i had a similar “situation” about a year ago when i just didnt care and ate whatever i wanted and bolused for it (it might be a little different bec ur x on a pump….) and i felt so out of control so when i went to my doc the next time i told her how i felt and she said “its normal for someone with a chronic illness like diabetes to feel that way after some time as long as it doesnt last and you get up, dust yourself off and start again fresh” (that is one reason why i love my doc because she knows its not easy!) so i think that you should talk to your doc about what you are feeling when you go this week! tell him/her what you just told me and ask how you could work on it without feeling burdened. because like it or not diabetes is here to stay it’s not going anywhere. so i think we all need to find a way to make it work for us. falling/failing is part of the deal and i know how hard it is and depressing too but i know that you can do it!! after you go to the doc this week… stand up brush yourself off and start again! and don’t forget we are all doing this together so we’ll help you through it!! and also don’t forget that our Father is Shamayim is holding our hand through it all the way!!
February 14, 2011 1:25 am at 1:25 am #980068HealthParticipantCoffeefan – I think I mentioned this to you awhile back. What about increasing your Lantus? Discuss with your doc. 8.3 is way too high. Your goal in a month and a half should be 7.5.
February 14, 2011 1:37 am at 1:37 am #980069allsgr8ParticipantWow! Thank you cofeefan- your last line is touching.
I’ll discuss it with my doc like you said thanks:)
February 14, 2011 1:42 am at 1:42 am #980070cofeefanMemberhealth- i know 8.3 is way too high thats why i am shocked!! i did a home test so idk how acurate it is so i will see what to do tomorrow when i am at the doc and get the real results. i am on a pump so i dont take lantus. my A1cs are usually in the 6s so thats why i am really really shocked by the 8.3 and i have been really good the past 3 months so idk it doesnt make much sense to me!
February 14, 2011 4:14 am at 4:14 am #980071cocacolaMemberto all those with diabetes.. you must all remember (and rebetzein im especially talking to you!) Hashem loves you and you are all His children! Hashem wouldnt do anything that would harm you.. however everything Hashem does is for our benefit. Hashem has your bashert out there and you will find him/her! the fact that you have diabetes doesnt make you “damaged goods” however makes you even greater and more sensitive than you were ever b4! take this nisayone and surpass it and show Hashem that you beleive He can do anything.. cuz He can! and Imy”H we will be hearing a mazal tov very soon from all you diabeticers who are on the market!! AMEN!
February 14, 2011 4:38 am at 4:38 am #980073cofeefanMemberAMEN!!!!!!!!! thanks cocacola!!!!
February 14, 2011 4:05 pm at 4:05 pm #980074rebbitzenMemberthey started a new thread abt us….:)
February 14, 2011 4:43 pm at 4:43 pm #980075allsgr8ParticipantAMEN!
February 14, 2011 4:47 pm at 4:47 pm #980076cofeefanMemberi saw rebbitzen i am so annoyed with it i decided not to even read it anymore!!! people are so ignorant and i have no patience to start explaining AGAIN!!!
just got home from the doc and guess what???? A1C is…. 6.6!!!!!!! i am ECSTATIC!!!! never been this low!!! i keep thanking Hashem!!!!! just wanted to share my good news with you all!
February 14, 2011 5:23 pm at 5:23 pm #980077allsgr8ParticipantCofeefan- Yay!!!! I am soo happy for you! I hope mine is almost as good when i go to the doc on friday! yikes!
I think you should throw out all of your home A1c testers right now so you dont get such a scare again!
February 14, 2011 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm #980078rebbitzenMemberwow! i’m happy for you..and jealous! i’m prob really 8.3. can never get mine down. how do you do it? do you really not eat anything with sugar? i am under the impression that i could eat anything as long as i bolus…should i be doing something differently?
February 14, 2011 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm #980079cofeefanMemberallsgr8- iyh yours will be fantatsic too!! and don’t worry the home testers are LONG gone!!!!
rebbitzen- to be honest i have No idea what ive been doing! i eat anything and blous! i dont over eat but i wont not eat something because of the diabetes! what really helped is the sensor i really recommend getting it even to just wear once a month like i do just to see whats going on! i also started prebolusing… meaning bolusing for what i’m gonna eat and then waiting like 20 minutes before i eat. that way the insulin meets the carbs and prevents the aftereating spike! other than that i guess i finally got my basal rates right and most importantly Hashem has been guiding me!! thats what it boils down to
February 14, 2011 7:37 pm at 7:37 pm #980080allsgr8Participantcofeefan- I know that I shld be bolusing 20 min before eating but I rarely (more like never) do! Hmmm maybe i shld try it if it made such a difference in your A1c’s….
Rebbitzen- technically speaking we can eat whatever we want and then bolus. However, I dont think that it is such a smart or healthy approach becuase this way you end up spiking so many times a day which contributes to your overall numbers. I think its better to allow yourself one or two treats a day at specific times like with supper/lunch and try to stay clear of sweets/cake/chocolate the rest of the day. I should practice what i preach LOL!
February 14, 2011 7:58 pm at 7:58 pm #980081rebbitzenMemberwow…hope that can happen for me too….i’m getting really frustrated!
February 14, 2011 9:44 pm at 9:44 pm #980082cofeefanMemberoy Reb don’t get frustrated though it certinly is very frustrating!!!!!! i feel so bad! i wish i could give you more chizuk and be more helpful!! anything you can think of what i could do?
btw if you look in the new thread about “us” i am talking with a boy about setting one of us up! lol let me know what you think! read the last few posts between me and “yossi” 😉 u2 allsgr8!!
February 14, 2011 9:45 pm at 9:45 pm #980083yossi z.MemberThanks to whoever bumped this up. Although I may not myself have diabetes, I have learned quite a bit about it and have found that mostly the issue people have is ignorance (they don’t know much if anything about diabetes). I personally have no issues with a person who has diabetes (as long as they are ehrilich and menchlich :D) and would date/marry someone who does.
Now that I have found this thread, I plan to be here as a listening ear and offer of support as much as I can
