October 19, 2010 4:20 pm at 4:20 pm #979894cofeefanMembertoday i’m a little high but not so bad (like 160s) i am really annoyed that my doc didn’t answer me yet am i wrong?
October 19, 2010 5:53 pm at 5:53 pm #979895allsgr8Participantreb- LOL i was waiting for u to post that!!
cf- yes u shld definitely be annoyed! when i call my doctors emergency number its like 6 hrs before they get back to me..so much 4 emergencies….
October 19, 2010 11:24 pm at 11:24 pm #979896YW Moderator-72ParticipantI just got my results .2 under my doctors target. as of last week my A1c is 6.6
October 20, 2010 3:56 am at 3:56 am #979897simchallthetimeMemberhey I see I’ve missed a lot of happenings here…. u guys really make me jealous with those A1c’s…I used to have it too until I pretty much gave up and stopped caring about it…:( UNFORTUNATELY

October 20, 2010 4:00 am at 4:00 am #979899rebbitzenMemberI’M glad i’m so predictable! 🙂 and i’m so jealous! thats such a good score mod 72! and coffeefan, 160’s is high!? halavei by me!
October 20, 2010 3:02 pm at 3:02 pm #979900cofeefanMembergr8 job mod 72!! 160s in not so high but i cld do better… trust me it took me a loooong time to be able to say that!
my doctor STILL didn’t get back to me i am sooo mad!! what if it was CHAS VISHALOM a real emergency?!?!
October 21, 2010 12:38 am at 12:38 am #979901allsgr8Participantsimchallthetime- that doesnt sound too good… do u still go to the doc? How long are you D for? what was the straw that broke the camel’s back? sorry to ask so many questions…i wanna help!
October 21, 2010 2:09 am at 2:09 am #979902HealthParticipantCF -that’s what ER’s are for. Unless your Doc specifically told you that he/she are available for emergencies, don’t expect them to respond. You just might have to make a regular appt. to go see him/her.
October 21, 2010 3:59 am at 3:59 am #979903cofeefanMemberhealth- my doc says this is the way i could get in touch with her (because when i used to call her she NEVER EVER got back to me so she said it is better to email) and she usually responds but she still hasn’t and i’m really upset because i am paying her to help me and she’s not..and i have an appointment november 1st to see her!
October 21, 2010 5:30 am at 5:30 am #979904simchallthetimeMemberallsgr8- thanks! yup, still go to doc. that’s who told me that my A1c’s above 8! She just told me; ‘we have to get it down…wear the continue glucose monitor for a week and make another app to see me….’ Not much to count on over there;) (gonna switch dr soon iy’h) I have ‘D’ for less than 2 yrs! there wasn’t really any straw apparently I just don’t have enough self control not to eat all the ‘good stuff’ (btw fyi I’m not fat at all…)…I think my nums r looking up these days! gonna check my A1c one of these days, HOPEFULLY it’s gone down, down, down( at least I can hope while there still is some hope)
October 21, 2010 3:15 pm at 3:15 pm #979905cofeefanMembersimcha- i know how you feel i feel like that all the time!!
does anyone have the CGMS? i’m looking into getting one but wanna hear some feedback
October 21, 2010 3:35 pm at 3:35 pm #979906HealthParticipantCF – A doc telling their pt. not to call -only to email is basically saying -I don’t do emergencies. If I were you, since you seem to be stabilized, I would call the office and ask for an appt. ASAP. But, just to perhaps see her side, maybe she’s very busy at this time, maybe she’s on vacation. Anyway call and get that appt. If for some reason they won’t accommodate you, I’d look for a new doc. That’s what I’d do and I’m in the medical field. What would you do without me?
October 21, 2010 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm #979907cofeefanMemberhealth u r 100% right i should make an appointment but my doc is supposidly top in the city so i have to make an appointment 6 months in advaance (i made the november appointment in march) so i make 2 appointments at a time so i have one in 2 weeks and one in february 2011 so i can’t make an appointment (plus i cant just take off of work as i’m sure you know being in the medical field….) so for now i’ll wait till the 1st when i have an appointment and i will discuss with her the problem that i can’t reach herwhen i go. if she can’t help me i will take ur advice and find a new one =)
October 21, 2010 3:58 pm at 3:58 pm #979908YW Moderator-80Memberunless one has a fairly unusual condition it is generally a very poor idea to see the “top” doctor.
you need someone who is competent, friendly, supportive, willing to take time to discuss things with you, and readily available. especially with a condition like yours which is best controlled with a healthy dose of patient knowledge and self-management.
ask around
October 21, 2010 4:38 pm at 4:38 pm #979909cofeefanMembermy doc is all those things and i am happy with her except that she doesn’t answer back. i don’t know why. it is upsetting and i plan to tell her how unhappy i am (in a respectful way ofcourse!!)
October 21, 2010 4:39 pm at 4:39 pm #979910HealthParticipantHey Mod 80 -How about you? Are you still practicing?
CF- My advice is still to call and ask for an earlier appt. and cancel the one in Nov. You must explain to the secretary, that you feel it’s medically necessary to be seen ASAP. By doing this you’ll generally get the appt. Because their job is to push you off, but once you mention medical necessity, it takes the decision out of their hands. Most doctors will let you come in because now they are afraid if you have a turn for the worse ch’vs, they will get sued. If for some reason, even after you do this, she still doesn’t contact you or let you come in earlier; I’d drop her now and get a new doc ASAP!
October 21, 2010 5:16 pm at 5:16 pm #979911cofeefanMemberi really should but i already took off that day of work (i have to do it in advance…) and i can’t really just not show up. but ur right thanks for the advice!
October 21, 2010 5:40 pm at 5:40 pm #979912forever1MemberCF, Yes, I’m using CGM for almost 2 yrs now. It’s the best thing, w/o it I feel blind. It’s not always so accurate, but you still get to see the trends. I always know the approximate range I am in and it helped me loads with fine tuning my basal/carb ratios.
most doctors don’t provide emergency service, if it’s an emergency go to the ER (you’ll probably hear that on the answering machines too). As far as being the best doc in town, It would be hard to believe this being that you live in NYC. Have you tried calling her regular office hours, when you know she’s for sure in there?
October 21, 2010 5:41 pm at 5:41 pm #979913forever1MemberCF just to add, if you have any specific CGM questions I’ll be glad to answer:)
October 21, 2010 5:51 pm at 5:51 pm #979914cofeefanMemberehich CGM are you on?
October 21, 2010 6:09 pm at 6:09 pm #979915forever1MemberMinimed, I use the pump too so it’s one device.
October 21, 2010 8:19 pm at 8:19 pm #979916allsgr8Participantsimcha- I think u shld switch to a doc who’s nice but scary at the same time cuz that’s what will u motivated (at least thats what keeps me motivated.) My doc is soo nice, every time I come I get a huge hello etc but at the same time if my numbers arent good she’ll get upset at me, like last time I went to her and I told her that my postprandial dinner numbers are high-ish she got upset at me (serioulsy) that i eat rice with supper and insisted that i do not need it at all!!! now, that is what motivates me to change cuz firstly im scared of her 🙂 and also cuz she does it in a way that makes me want to change..she told me stories about ppl who are still living and their in their 90’s with type 1 since teenage years!
It’s definitley not easy and noone will say it is but you gotta do it for urself!! btw im only D for almost 3 years now and im for sure less motivated than i was a while back but i push myself and think about the future. I wanna be a good wife and have healthy children iyh! 🙂
if u wanna my docs info i cld give it to u but she only takes new patients till 21. (even though i just turned 21 she said she’ll keep me cuz i started with her when i was under 21)
sorry for such a long post- i know theyre annoying..:)
October 22, 2010 5:08 am at 5:08 am #979917simchallthetimeMemberallsgr8-Which doc du use?
Anyone have any adult endo’s to recommend??
October 22, 2010 5:27 pm at 5:27 pm #979918allsgr8Participantshes part of Dr Ten’s group at maimonidies, he name is Dr. Kazachkova.
October 22, 2010 7:47 pm at 7:47 pm #979919cofeefanMemberi tried Dr. Ten after Dr. Anhalt left (he was my first doc and i loved him he was great) and i really really didn’t like her! i heard a lot of people didn’t! now i am by Mount Saini and the team there and im generally happy…
Forever1- is theCGMS big? i don’t want people to see it. i’m reluctant to get it because i already wear the omnipod and i don’t wanna wear 2 things and caary 2 things…. but i think i really should get it because it’s supposed to be very helpful… did you every hear of the dexcom seven plus? that’s the one i would get if i did get one cuz it’s the smallest/thinnest
October 23, 2010 11:25 pm at 11:25 pm #979920rebbitzenMembermy endo doesnt help get my numbers under control…(not exactly sure what the point of her is…) but i go to a diabetes educator/nutritionist..she’s so sweet..she helps …but is quite costly! just got an invoice for a 15 minute session-30 dollars!
October 24, 2010 12:25 am at 12:25 am #979921cofeefanMemberive been looking for a good nutrionist.. who do you use?
October 24, 2010 2:16 am at 2:16 am #979922simchallthetimeMemberHey! I use Dr Ten now, and I’m REALLY not happy there! Wondering if anyone of you who goes there knows that Neesha is leaving/left there!
October 24, 2010 2:32 am at 2:32 am #979923allsgr8ParticipantReb- what? why doesnt ur endo help u get ur #’s under control? mine checks my meter at each visit and if she sees a high number she wants an explanation and if there are too many highs then….im basically in for it!! 🙂
October 24, 2010 5:36 am at 5:36 am #979924forever1MemberCF, are you still w/ pediatrics @ Mt. Sinai? Then you can dream of them getting back to you. I’m coming from there, it took them 2 wks and 10 mistakes just to get a prescription!
abt the cgm, the sensor and transmitter are very small, a little bigger than the traditional infusion sets. I don’t think there is much of difference in size between the MM and Dexcom. The dexcom has better reviews, though it is a separate device and the receiver is rather large. Check out there website to see the exact details.
October 24, 2010 6:27 pm at 6:27 pm #979925rebbitzenMemberSHES IN NEW JERSEY..
October 24, 2010 8:16 pm at 8:16 pm #979926YW Moderator-72Participanti used to go to an endo in ridgewood, NJ (Dr. R. Cobin) – she was great but my insurance changed and I needed to find a new Dr. She took her time and gave as much time as needed
October 24, 2010 8:26 pm at 8:26 pm #979927simchallthetimeMemberand so? did I miss s/t? what does being in new jersey say about her?
October 24, 2010 9:20 pm at 9:20 pm #979928cofeefanMembersimcha- i think reb was just telling us that because i asked about her cuz i need someone and since she knows i’m in brooklyn she was telling me that so i know its not so applicable to be….
does anyone know a good nutritionist in brooklyn?
October 24, 2010 9:33 pm at 9:33 pm #979929allsgr8Participantsimcha- ye they told me neesha was leaving..i never really had much to do with her though so it doesnt make a difference to me..
Since ur anyway using that group at maimonidies why dont you try switching over to doc i mentioned before shes really great!!!! I never used Ten so i cant compare.
CF- I never used a nutritionist..the prob is that most nutritionist specialize in weight loss so i dont know how much they’ll know about diabetes..thy’re usually gr8 at their specialty and then if you ask them something else they might not know much about it..u cld try chaya stern she’s a PA and a nutritionist so she might be well rounded 🙂
October 24, 2010 10:47 pm at 10:47 pm #979930Mosh3Membersorry people but dr ten is horrible really does not know what she is talking about and then there is an inyan of tznius im a boy 17 years old to be exact and the first thing she says is get undressed i gotta check you WHAT is she nuts ? when i had dr anhalt he was great and gave me all the attention i needed. i heard there is a very good dr , his name is dr perkevald i dont know his number but rabbi meisels know it but girls might want to get a lady doctor and again i suggest calling rabbi meisels to find out
October 24, 2010 11:42 pm at 11:42 pm #979931rebbitzenMemberexactly! thanks for clarifying!
October 25, 2010 3:17 am at 3:17 am #979932simchallthetimeMembercoffefan; That’s exactly the question I was about to ask…
I was recommended someone Susan(4got what she calls herself) Goldner as s/o who knows her stuff regarding diabetes. I tried her out, she was very good, I must say! she’s really sweet, she knows about diabetes and all the stuff(asks about ur A1c…)…but it was very frustrating that she doesnt REALLY know what it’s all about(b’h 4 her!;) )…Like taking extra sugar/food b4 going out bec I know I’ll b doing quite a bit of physical activity, accrding to these nutritionists u gotta stick to meals, no extra snacks….her number is 718-854-5784. It’s def worth a try, c if it works 4u! If u have any other quest about her…just ask:)
October 25, 2010 3:46 am at 3:46 am #979933cofeefanMemberthanks simcha! i’m going to the doc next monday and will discuss with her if she thinks it really necessary… for roght now i need to lose weight (nothing to do with Diabetes just that i hate the way i look but that is a completely different story… LOL) so maybe i will try her just for that because it always helps when someone understands diabetes (even if you say she’s not soooo knowledgeable.. though unless you have it u never really could be i guess…)
allsgr8- itried chaya stern before i was diagnosed just for losing weight ( i was very heavy when i was young.. since then i’ve lost over 30 pounds and kept it off…)and for some reason her program didnt work for me and it was a big shlep to get to her but she is a DOLL she’s soooo nice!!
btw i think i’m gonna get the sensor… if i ever get a hold of my doc….. oysh don’t get me started again lol
October 25, 2010 5:01 am at 5:01 am #979934BOSDParticipantI really really need a new endo. I was seeing Dr. Ten but a) I hated the practice. I used to wait for hours and felt like they didn’t listen much. I did like Neesha, but couldn’t handle the wait. Plus, b) I am over 21 and really need an adult, not a pediatric dr. Any suggestions?
October 25, 2010 12:11 pm at 12:11 pm #979935allsgr8Participantye simcha that’s pretty much what i was saying without having ever gone to a nutritionist..well actually my endo decided that i had high cholesterol and sent me to a lipid specialist who had a dietitian on site. I went to her as part of the visit and OMG she had not the slightest clue about diabetes!!! when i told her that i need to give myself insulin for milk she thought i was crazy..hello? everyone knows that lactose is milk sugar!! and then when i told her i eat salad for lunch cuz its no carb she was literally ready to shoot me cuz “you have to keep ur carbs balanced! How could u go for a meal without carbs!” By the time i left i was ready to shoot her!!! 🙂 wtvr!
BOSD- im actually quite happy being by a pediatric doc cuz i think they care more. Yes the wait is FOREVER at maimonidies and i jump outa my skin by i think its worth it for my doc.
October 26, 2010 3:48 am at 3:48 am #979936cofeefanMemberi agree allsgr8- i think pediatric docs care more because they need to for the younger kids…
here’s a new question for you all: did any of you get the flu shot? my doctor (and so therefore my mother too…) is very “makpid” on diabetics getting the shot… apparently ppl with a chronic illness need to get it…. so i got it… did anyone else?
October 26, 2010 1:20 pm at 1:20 pm #979937forever1MemberFor me personally I get much better service with my adult endo. My pedi was impossible to reach.
No flu shot, noone has mentioned it to me…
October 26, 2010 6:56 pm at 6:56 pm #979938allsgr8ParticipantI got the flu shot last year cuz i was afraid of swine flu and diabetes but i dont see a reason to get the regular flu shot unless u work in a hospital or something
October 26, 2010 8:00 pm at 8:00 pm #979939cofeefanMemberallsgr8- this year they combined both reghular and swine flu shots….
October 26, 2010 8:18 pm at 8:18 pm #979940allsgr8Participantoh i didnt know that! but i think that since all the hype about swine flu calmed down im not really nervous about it.
October 26, 2010 8:43 pm at 8:43 pm #979941cofeefanMemberi understand i wouldnt have gotten it either if my mother didn’t make me….
and i wanna beat Reb this time…. WERE ON PAGE 14!!!!!
October 26, 2010 10:07 pm at 10:07 pm #979942YW Moderator-72ParticipantI got my flu/H1N1 shot a couple of weeks ago.
