someone called me to see if I know of any support group for depression. B”H I dont know. She is looking for someone to talk to beside for her therapist. someone thats been through it and over with it to give her chizuk. Nothing in Her life seems to make her happy. But she BH doesnt have any suicide thoughts. If anyone knows of any heimishe Person or group that she can speak to I would be happy to give her the info.

Sorry I can’t recommend any groups. Finding a support will definitely help her. I would strongly suggest the lady has a blood test to check her vitamin D levels. I know a few cases that were helped – Lady had very low levels of vitamin D (one of the signs is depression) and improved steadily when levels went up. Hatzlocho
This may sound sarcastic, but have her join the CR! I’m not kidding. Many of us have been thry tough moments and many of us are good writers. Unless its a topic that is best left off the public airwaves, chances are, we can help.
Many times, its just a matter of hearing that others have been around that block before, and how we coped. Not every problem, not every time, but sometimes just being able to sound off and be heard makes the difference.
Let her sign up, post a thread and once the replies start gushing in, watch how fast she cheers up!
(and I can think of at least 4 members who will no doubt 2nd my motion as soon as they see this topic. Show her those replies and she will see that help is never far off)
I am “refreshing” this thread as I posted late last night and it may have been missed, and I feel its very important.

While the CR certainly has it’s merits, I don’t think it’s a proper substitute for proper therapy for treating depression.*
(That doesn’t mean she can’t join anyway — just that this forum shouldn’t be looked at as a cure for depression.)

* And yes, I know you probably didn’t mean it that way either — but some may take it that way.
Sometimes, aspects of depressopn are related to feeling that no one else has ever gone through what the person is going through, and it can help to have a sounding board. But if the depression is a chemical imbalance problem, such a person needs professional intervention. Both can be hopeful.

You are correct; in many cases there is a need for medical intervention, and no ammount of talking will help the person, much like no ammount of talking will help someone nearsighted avoid glasses.
What I was refering to (and hope is the case) that what the person is calling “depression” is just a case of the blues, that has gotten out of hand.
As ASF stated, she is already meeting with a therapist, and just needs a little boost (just like many of us do from time to time)
Not everyone needs medication from the get-go. Let her try this first. Look how sunny and cheerful I come away from the CR!

Interesting usage, I have never heard that particular definition applied in reference to a person, as a nickname. However, there is a more common usage that does lend itself as a nickname.

The context is applying the word as a screen name, or nickname. Unless one is describing himself as a piece of mildew, it is out of context usage of “schimmel”.

I suppose there is a kind of irony in seeing someone named “shimmel” (missing the “c”) spell the word as “moldy” (missing the “u”).
Either way is acceptable
