Back to Israel being 7 hours forward from EST.

That 6 hour difference was nice while it lasted. It brought us closer to our Yidden across the sea in the Middle East.

And now… we’re an extra hour away… but we won’t let that hour get in between us.

    Thank you 🙂

LB: I am sorry but your post is nonsensical. EY did not move a longitude to the west making it an hour closer. It is simply a clock manipulation. A flight to EY would take the same ~11 hours it always takes. And yes, my son lives in EY and I speak t o him 4-5 a week and he did not feel any closer because of the 6 hour differential.

LB: Thank Hashem you’re not from the left coast (aka the West Coast.)

iacisrmma: You are right in that what I said does not make sense, but it is still true.

Life was really sweet during this week or so when Israel was only 6 hours forward, based on the clock. I was able to speak to my family members later in the day, over here in EST. When the clocks change, so do the schedules of my family members. So, while nothing really happened, you can say, that’s not true.

I have only so many hours in the morning and day over here before I cannot call my family in Israel to say Hi.

Now, we’re back at the 7 hour difference, and I am simply grateful for being able to communicate with my family at all. Nevertheless, I cannot deny that the 6 hour difference was a quite convenient and rewarding while it lasted.

    Thank you

Joseph: I’ve previously lived on the best coast, and it was a bit easier there for me to speak with family, since I’d call at night.

Technically, I can call Israel here, at night, to reach family in the morning. However, that requires me to call much later at night, and my family to be available much earlier in the morning.

BUT… Overall, I am really lucky! Back in the day, when I was growing up, calling Israel from my cell phone without a calling card was only a dream. So yay, baruch Hashem for such frustrations because these communication connections are miracles 🙂

If you worked outdoors (construction, agriculture) you would appreciate the extra daylight hours at times that the rest of society think it is normal to be working.

akuperma, I can both appreciate the daylight hours and still long to connect with family. Must the two be mutually exclusive in your eyes?

New England is seriously considering moving from Eastern Time to Atlantic Time, essentially putting them on Daylight Savings Time year-round.

LB: your post describing your communicating with your family should have been your initial post. It makes more sense then “That 6 hour difference was nice while it lasted. It brought us closer to our Yidden across the sea in the Middle East”. And I wouldn’t have responded as I would have understood what your real point was. My son called me at his usual time which is most convenient for him.

Iacisrmma, I think this is similar to the way that girls used to keep their watches on Israeli time when they came back from seminary so that they could feel connected to EY.

And yeah, I think you may have to be from Venus to understand – my friend’s husband almost broke up with her when they were going out when he found out that her watch was still set to Israeli time two years later.

iacisrmma: Lol, good point. My post was vague… and while it made sense to me, your viewpoint, now I totally see 🙂

    To Joseph:

Perhaps Monsey, Lakewood, BP and Willy can all go on Icelandic time so those coming to the late maariv minyanim can stay over and daven vasikim shachris….but I guess that might not work because the maariv will also move back a few hours or is that forward…
