daven with a minyan

One name for the Mishkan is Ohel Moed, tent of meeting. One reason to go to shul is the social aspect. It’s healthy to interact with people.

Disclaimer: this is not meant as a encouragement to talk during davening or even to talk unimportant things in shul.

..simply, I used to see a single guy in one of the minyanim I daven and I tried to match him up with a girl I thought was appropriate. So you’re actually helping yourself and others. HELPS SOLVE THE SHIDDUCH CRISIS (CR old-timers will get this one). This guy is now married (not to someone I set up, but maybe someone else in shul did?).

The Gemara says that Hashem doesn’t reject a Teffila Betzibur. So, if you think that you might sometimes have other/foreign thoughts during Davening or any other causes for your Teffila to be rejected, here’s a simple solution.

A mashal: This professor hands out test papers to his class with clear instruction that all students must hand in their papers before the bell rings. One moment later and you fail. The bell goes off and one student is still furiously scribbling answers. The professor approaches him and notifies him that he just flunked. “Do you know who I am?” says the student indignantly. “I do not know, nor do I care who you are” was his sharp reply, ” you failed the test”. “You mean to tell me you really don’t know who I am?” repeated the student. “Yes, I really don’t know”. “Great” said the student, “in that case…” and promptly slid his test paper into the class’s pile.

As an individual, we may not merit to have our tefilos answered, but the combined power of a tzibur is awesome.

I was once in a very well known “shtiebel” ie minyan factory in flatbush, there was a very old man who came to daven maariv, he came in by himself, his face was VERY severely burnt, his ears were completely singed off, his eyes were shut closed from the scarring, he was literally a train wreck, somehow this very old sickly, disfigured man who was writhing with pain made it to minyan, i am talking to myself no one else, but what excuse do I have not to come to shul.

There are also people who are disabled, some paralyzed lo aleinu, lo aleichem, who I see make it to shul regularly, every day, some limping, some in wheel chairs, some with oxygen tanks. at some point you have to say, these people came to shul to daven, HKBH gave me health today, how can I not get up and go to shul. i wish it didnt take such extreme examples to put things in perspective but seeing these things really made an impact on me

also during the big blizzard this winter, seeing how many people made the trek to shul whether by car or on foot in those conditions was a real chizuk for me
