I’m not going to ask you if you’re happy but I want to know if you’re comfortable in the situation you’re in right now, as in if right now if someone told you your younger brother was also 16, and in the exact same situation as you. Would you do anything to stop him? Or would you let him continue?

i’m going to be very honest. of course i would interfere.
a sister of mine? i’d freak. a brother? yes, i would try to do something. and a child? i’d probably cry because there’s only so much a parent can do.
I know this is coming on as a very challenging type question but its not really.
so you’re aware that you’re in a (kind-of) jam here. why would you feel a greater need to get a sibling out of it than yourself? (BTW, I’m not talking about a child here where I think the situation would be completely different you’re not a parent and neither am I)

what do you think would happen that would cause you to change? I assume you’re planning on something to break your “schedule” so why would it as long as you’re taking everything as it comes along?

kapusta, can i ask you a question back? why are you asking? it doesn’t bother me – i couldn’t care less, but why are you so interested?
who says i don’t wanna change right now? part of me probably does. just not ewnough. i cna’t answer these questions – they’re too unrealistic.

yeah, I was trying to establish the fact that you do want to change, even if you may not realize it. and btw, its not that the questions are unrealistic, they are, you’re probably just not at the point yet where you realize that it is. just one thing, one day, hopefully soon, something will happen to differentiate your life right now from the time as you say when you’re 30, Shomer Shabbos and married with a kid(s) and this “change” might not hit you in the face, so please remember this cyber-ville conversation and look for it becuase I think enough of you wants to change to actually do something, its just that you have a very strong opposing side, (which will hopefully lose strength as you get older) but if you’re not looking out for it, you’re stuck because no ones dropping a pail of water on you with any signs in life, and there is no one in this world, as wonderful as they may be, that can change you, aside from yourself.

Whenever anyone asks why do you care, it sounds to me like that person feels that in general NO one cares. We’re Jews, we are supposed to care about each other. Sometimes, that becomes a burden to the person who doesn’t get that he or she is not alone in this world. Whatever it is, teen years are really hard, and a lot of kids become disillusioned when they see the hypocrisy all around them. It’s hard to trust, and it’s hard to not be able to trust, because I believe that deep down a teenager wants to be able to feel connected even when disillusioned. The good news is, we all eventually grow up, and when we do, we are amazed at how differently we view things from the way we did when we were teens.
you’re very funny. sure i know people who care. my parents care and i’m sure my extended family cares. but yeh there are plenty who don’t. you think my school gives a hoot? maybe they regret that my dad doesn’t pay tuition for me, but i’m sure it’s worth it for them to not have me around. and neighbors? they probably love it – a new topic of discussion for them when they’re bored.
i can’t understand why a stranger would want to care? close people, ok. and yeh you all keep saying that it’s because i’m part of klal yisroel, but then you don’t really care about me, it’s the klal you’re worried about.

Moish- I was trying to get you to admit to yourself that you care which I think I acheived and I know everyone else said this also but I care because you’re a jew but I mean that very very honestly I daven that you return completely and a (former?) poster teenager and for several other people I have never laid eyes on in my life.

I care because you are a person. Not Jew, not male, not female, not contemporary of mine, just stam a person. Why would a stranger stop in the street to see if he can help someone who has fallen? Because it is the right thing to do. Morevover, we Jews have something extra built into our DNA, the chessed shel Avraham, the first Jew. It cannot be that his direct descendents who accepted the Torah did not inherit from him a part of him that tell us to do the right and compassionate thing. Proportionately, considering our population number, Jews are the most chessed-filled people in history. More tzedaka orgamizations both Jewish and secular have been started and are run by Jews. That is no accident. There is no question there are caring and good non-Jews in the world, but on balance, I think we Jews are pretty amazing in that department.

moish, you want to know why we care? I’ll tell you why we care. For the same reason that you care about 3 guys in Japan who you’ve never seen before. Because whatever you do you’re a jew, and every jew cares about every other jew. It’s the same reason that jews all over the world davened for the residents of Southern Israel during the war, the same reason we all say tehillim for people we’ve never seen. Because they are jews. It doesn’t matter where they’re from, it doesn’t matter how they dress, nothing matters. All jews are brothers. We would do anything for you, just as you’d do anything for the 3 guys in Japan.
