    ard,

You forget that there was a letter supporting Kamalek signed by “33 orthodox rabbis” including rabbits Shayna Abramson, Aliza Libman Baronofsky, Alana Suskin, Emily Golderg Winer and of course crazy’s personal rabbit, Wendy Zierler. There, now what do you have to say?

I appreciate the call out. Provide me with your email and I will provide you with names. I am aware of a member of the moetzes who told his talmidim that the choices are not great but one can not vote for Trump. I am aware of other chashuva magedei shiur who privately told talmidim not to support Trump and multiple Roshei Kollel who also advised against voting for Trump. Sadly the MAGA folk intimidate and harass all those who question their Orthodoxy so many are afraid to speak up.

I would just like to point out that saying not to vote for Trump is not the same as saying to vote for Kamala Harris. (Even if the implication is there.)

YWN World Headquarters – NYC said this:

“As President Joe Biden approaches the end of his term, his administration is coming under fire for policies that punish Israel while easing restrictions on Hamas and Hezbollah.
The president, once vocal in his support of Israel after the October 7 [2023] massacre, now appears to be bending to anti-Israel pressures within his own party.”

“The controversy intensified last week when the Biden administration reversed a 2022 Treasury Department decision that barred the U.S.-based Foundation for Global Political Exchange from hosting Hamas and Hezbollah representatives at a Beirut conference. The sudden approval has drawn outrage, with critics accusing Biden of capitulating to Iran-backed terror groups.”

“Simultaneously, Biden has introduced Executive Order 14115, which establishes a sanctions program targeting individuals accused of threatening the West Bank’s “peace, security, and stability.” While ostensibly neutral, the sanctions have overwhelmingly targeted Israeli Jews, including settlers accused of minor property crimes or vandalism. Palestinian terrorist groups, meanwhile, have largely escaped sanction under existing U.S. terrorism laws, save for a token inclusion of the Lions’ Den terror group.”

“The Biden administration’s sanctions process has drawn criticism for relying on information from sources like DAWN MENA, a nonprofit linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and known for its anti-Israel positions. Critics argue the administration is imposing severe penalties, including frozen bank accounts and restricted financial access, based on unreliable and biased claims.”

“Sanctions have expanded beyond obscure West Bank farmers to include prominent NGOs and protest organizers. One targeted nonprofit, which defends isolated farms from theft and terror, has been accused without evidence of wrongdoing. Biden’s policies have even inspired similar actions in Canada and Britain, creating what some fear is an international trend of targeting Israel.”

“In a letter to the White House, 88 congressional Democrats demanded sanctions on members of the Israeli government and mainstream NGOs. Critics argue this move would punish individuals for political views and activism, without allegations of violent or illegal acts, further alienating one of America’s closest allies.”

“Observers see Biden’s actions as part of a larger effort to align with the goals of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. By imposing these measures in his final months, Biden risks damaging U.S.-Israel relations and emboldening international efforts to isolate the Jewish state.”

“U.S. citizens have already filed a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Biden’s sanctions. Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump has promised to swiftly revoke these measures upon taking office, raising the possibility of using similar sanctions against progressive groups linked to Palestinian terrorism.”

Sanctioning Israel While Easing Pressure on Terror Groups

    https://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/users/ard I hope that’s sarcastic.
It’s very sad that people equate frumkeit with stupidity and mindlessness; that being frum or Yeshivish means never thinking for yourself or having to make a decision. You never have to open a sefer or learn, because your Rebbe does that for you.
A brief anecdote from Rav Yoshe Ber Soloveitchik, which demonstrates the difference between YU and other Yeshivos.
The Rav asked the shiur: “What’s the first mitzvah in the Torah?” and they all answered, “HaChodesh hazeh Lachem”
“Before that,” he asked and they said, “Gid HaNosheh”
“Before Gid HaNosheh,” they responded, “Bris Milah”
“Before Bris Milah,” and they answered, ‘Pru U’Rvu”
“Before Pru U’Rvu?” and they were silent.
“The first mitzvah in the Torah,” he said, “Is to use your head.”

    “הֱווּ זְהִירִין בָּרָשׁוּת, שֶׁאֵין מְקָרְבִין לוֹ לָאָדָם אֶלָּא לְצֹרֶךְ עַצְמָן. נִרְאִין כְּאוֹהֲבִין בִּשְׁעַת הֲנָאָתָן, וְאֵין עוֹמְדִין לוֹ לָאָדָם בִּשְׁעַת דָּחְקוֹ”

We must take Pirkei Avos seriously. Despite appearing close and genial, be very cautious with the government – regardless of party affiliation.

Just to clarify the gadol I mentioned said voting for Trump is not an option. He did not specifically endorse any other candidate.

Provaxx, Chofetz Chaim said similarly: people say you should be frum, frum and only then klug. I am saying you should be klug, klug, and only then frum. This is in the context of how to behave when there is assimilation all around you.

    provaxx –
which sefer tells us who to vote for?
yes, use your head to make responsible decisions, and at times use your head to realize that the wide encompassing ramifications of a decision are beyond our scope of view, and seek Torah council.

i also come from a mesora that encourages using your own head and not being a parrot. but those who think they know better than gedolim show a rather bloated midda of gaava. maybe if they learned mussar they would recognize this

Rav Shach ZT”L was always consulted about who to vote for by PM elections. He would always make a huge public speech decrying that all candidates are nebbuch mechalel Shabbos and eat treif then tell the people to have faith in Hashem.

I don’t understand the premise of this question. Where does it say that you need “das torah” as it pertains to USA elections? This notion that everything you do you need das torah is a modern day invention. I don’t recall “das torah” during Bush V Gore or Clinton. (surely not earlier). Yes in EY where there are frum parties, yeshivas directly affected, and of course the broader zionsit debate, then it makes sense to say you need guidance from a tzadik as it intimately affects your judiasm. But in the USA that’s not the case. I happen to have voted for Trump and if not for israel, I would have voted for Harris. But why should das torah play a role?

    #2357540

Didn’t the election end two and a half months ago? Why are we still talking about this?

    #2357608

Rav Schach also suggested not to accept Begin’s offer of full tuition funding. He explained that if schools stop fundraising, they’ll not be able to recover when left comes back to power and reduce funding. So, it wad not simply bitachon, some sevorah also.

Yserbius123 your ignorance is showing. In Israeli elections you’re not voting for a prime minister or any other individual, you’re voting for a party. Rav Shach knew plenty about Israeli politics, joining, leaving, and starting new parties. Read a little about the Knesset before making uninformed statements.
Chaim87, I agree with you. I remember in 1976 my Rebbe talking about Ford being a better candidate than Carter, I was too young to vote. But he certainly never expected everyone to agree with him.
