    So someone told me that his friend told him, that he (the friend) has looked at the CR a few times but doesn’t like Popa because she is cynical.

    Do my posts come across as cynical? This bothered me very much.

    No, it didn’t bother me that I might be cynical, or might be thought of as cynical. I certainly am sometimes cynical in real life, and on the CR there are far worse things I am. It bothered me that I wasn’t self aware enough of my posting to know that it is frequently cynical.

    I don’t think my posting is usually cynical. I think this friend legitimately doesn’t like my posting, but doesn’t know how to define what bothers him about it. (maybe he should ask syag, they can brainstorm together)

    I know, I had the same reaction. Why did he think I am cynical?

    I should add that it is appropriate to link to cynical or non-cynical posts when you state your opinion.

    How odd, one of my friends said the same thing, only it’s a she. And I told her I never thought of it like that.

    Maybe it’s only people who only read your more famous topics (like the infamous women aren’t Jewish)

    Syag: It’s ok. I don’t believe you think I’m cynical anyway. I think you don’t like my posts for other reasons, but, I think that it unfortunately is usually a misunderstanding between the twain of us.

    yeah, this is sort of what I expected. My posting is not cynical. I’m still self-aware.

    But today, I said something really cynical. The flight attendant announced that if you return someone’s smile today, you’ll have Irish luck. So I said to the person next to me “you mean like I’ll have a civil war rip my country apart for hundreds of years?”

    If I recall correctly, you (Popa) said a while back that only one in a thousand gerus candidates should be accepted. I’d say that’s pretty cynical, since it assumes the worst about the sincerity and intentions of nearly all gerim.
