I know this is a bit late..but I was wondering if anyone had anything to say about the bais yaakov convention that was held in Toronto in the end of November.
Anyone’s daughter went to it? Anyone who lives in toronto’s daughter involved in it??
January 15, 2009 5:49 am at 5:49 am #633845asdfghjklParticipantyenta101: what’s this by convention all about????
January 15, 2009 6:01 am at 6:01 am #633846yenta101Memberasdfghjkl – every year one of the 4 hosting schools (toronto, baltimore, detroit, cleveland – montreal used to host but i don’t think they do anymore, so now they just skip a year) has a convention some time in late fall/early winter, it is over a shabbos and every bais yaakov across north america send some girls in for the shabbos. including the whole bais yaakov toronto, i think there were about 750 girls there this year. i was just wondering if anyone had anything to say about it …. feel free to post your comments!
January 15, 2009 6:04 am at 6:04 am #633847asdfghjklParticipantyenta101: thanx, seems like a nice thing!!!

January 16, 2009 3:17 am at 3:17 am #633853smh1Memberwhy do you want to know about Convention? are you planning one? I’m sure it was wonderful/amazing/fantastic like always.
I think any negative comments would be Loshon hara, as they are unproductive unless addressed to the principals/heads, who all worked VERY VERY hard!
Convention is truly an inspiring, amazing, unforgettable experience, as girls from all over North America come togther for a weekend (Thurs-Sun) of shiurim, trips, new friendships, presentations, kumzitz, fun, discussions, schmoozes, etc!!! It is especially special for girls from small towns, who don’t often get to be with so many frum girls. The entire hosting school works together to plan this. countless hours go onto it, as talents not used in the classroom are brought out. Girls make friends with those in other classes/grades that they may not really had anything to do with otherwise. It is the best!!!!
(BTW, my convention was several conventions ago!)
January 16, 2009 9:04 pm at 9:04 pm #633854yenta101Membersmh1, i live in toronto and the convention took place a little over a month ago and i know that the girls and staff worked really hard and a lot of people in the community had what to do with it. so i was just wondering if people had feedback, stories..its a bit late but i just thought of making this thread.
January 19, 2009 5:38 pm at 5:38 pm #633855mazal77ParticipantI went to convention in Toronto – 20 years ago!! Yes, I still have wonderful memories about it. The girls worked really hard. They put on wonderful productions. It you are fortunate enough to go, it is a wonderful experiance. You get to meet other girls from Bais Yaacovs from all over.
January 20, 2009 4:14 am at 4:14 am #633856smh1Membermazal77: you were at MY convention???? “Ner L’ragli Devarecha..” Yay Toronto!
January 20, 2009 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm #633857mazal77ParticipantYep- smh1!! let’s see, do you remember the theme song?? – ” Gathering here with everybody, gives us all a sense of pride, it is a union of ideas of power and wisdom that we have inside, but let us not forget the friendships that we have made and we will keep,… (forgot some words) so deep, Bais Yaacov we are and we will stay together forever, just as we are today, we’ll gather are strength and help one another,… we’ll gather our strength and be one”
January 20, 2009 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm #633858SJSinNYCMemberI almost went to the BY convention when I was in HS. My school isn’t a Bais Yaakov, but they participate anyway.
January 20, 2009 5:54 pm at 5:54 pm #633859squeakParticipantsome things never change…. like lyrics from BY songs.
January 20, 2009 7:29 pm at 7:29 pm #633860smh1Member“we will keep…as we enjoy and we experience, a meaningful weekend with lessons so deep.” Remember the kumzitz at the Cinesphere? and how COLD it was! Amazing how we packed 600 girls into that gym on Thursday night. The school has another wing now.
Anyone else who was there?
January 20, 2009 8:30 pm at 8:30 pm #633861areivimzehlazehParticipantsqueak- you crack me up… this whole topic cracks me up. You familiar with the 10 months after the girls come home from camp? camp theme songs become shabbos zmiros

January 21, 2009 5:39 am at 5:39 am #633871syriansephardiMemberAsdfghjkl: I NO I was saying it sarcasticly!!! its ‘funny’ how all ur ppls sisters and all of u who are girls are obsessed with bais yaacov songs…..
January 21, 2009 6:15 am at 6:15 am #633872asdfghjklParticipantsyriansephardi: yeah gotchaaa!!!
January 21, 2009 7:22 pm at 7:22 pm #633873smh1MemberI think it’s a “had to be there” kind of thing. A bais yaakov high school, and definately overnight camps, produce a deep feeling of achdus and belonging. (usually)
Yes, there ARE many songs, productions and plays, all of which get many/all involved. So the songs and tha music stay with us, in our hearts (not to be too mushy), as a true Jewish song should. (“A Jewish song of any kind is only precious – if and when – it brings us closer to Hashem” – Abie Rotenberg). But a bigger reason, i think, is that the songs take us back to those teenage years of fun, friends and companionship; the memories are linked with the tunes. So sing and enjoy! (even 20 years later!)
