September 18, 2011 2:12 am at 2:12 am #810450I can only tryMemberHIE-
Try “am yisrael chai”‘s suggestion, Obamacare’s pros and cons, the 2009 World Series (if your teacher has a sense of humor), the Libyan revolution, the Egyptian revolution, Perry vs. Romney – there are many good topics in current events that don’t require more than an hour or two or research to create a good HS-level presentation.
September 18, 2011 2:19 am at 2:19 am #810451am yisrael chaiParticipantThere was a GREAT story recently about a twin who shot the hockey puck directly into this teeny goal & won major cash in this hockey contest.
The dad’s conflict was that his son, whose name was drawn as the winner to take a shot at the goal, was in the restroom. So the dad told his twin to take the shot.
And he scored!
The dad did fess up, despite knowing that no one would know the difference, to teach the boys right from wrong.
The insurance company then had a conflict and spent time determining if the prize money should indeed be dispensed or not.
And would’ya have guessed that the company said “not?”
Great stuff.
September 18, 2011 2:28 am at 2:28 am #810452deiyezoogerMemberHow about some history?
The north vs. the south in the civil war.
September 18, 2011 2:30 am at 2:30 am #810453popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhy don’t you just talk about some fight you recently had with your younger brother.
September 18, 2011 2:32 am at 2:32 am #810454am yisrael chaiParticipantdz
The OP needs a recent conflict.
It would work though if the OP uses the Marevelous Midos Machine’s time machine.
September 18, 2011 2:33 am at 2:33 am #810455deiyezoogerMemberBecause she needs to provide reasoning for both sides…

September 18, 2011 2:53 am at 2:53 am #810457deiyezoogerMemberFor a recent conflict how about the Gaza blockade?
September 18, 2011 2:54 am at 2:54 am #810458oomisParticipantThe hockey puck story is a great idea.
September 18, 2011 2:57 am at 2:57 am #810459deiyezoogerMemberThats an internal conflict between the Yetzar Tov and the Yetzar Harah (perhaps the biggest conflict of all).
September 18, 2011 3:33 am at 3:33 am #810460abcd2ParticipantRe gaza blockade suggestion: There are no two sides. We have a right to defend ourselves against hamas. By showing two sides of a conflict you legitimize another side at least as being somewhat valid. If you read the opening post HIE actually does in fact state for the assignment reasoning for both sides must be given. In this case HIE would have to declare why hamas feels they have claims to Eretz Yisrael. (something which could also possibly border on apikorsus and Chilul Hashem)Bichlal when presenting in schools we have to be careful not to say anything that could lead to misinterpretation.Simchas to all and Lishana Haba Biyerushalyim
September 18, 2011 6:34 am at 6:34 am #810461mommamia22Participant(If it’s not too late…) How about the conflict that was reported at Yeshivas Ponovicz regarding who has the right to a particular chair in the bais medrash? One side claims it’s theirs, as they’ve occupied the seat for many years, the other side claims it’s theirs, as they owned it prior to the first family’s “ownership”. You can research it on this website, under prior topics.
