K so i’m a 2nd year nursing student and my clinicals got longer and i dont have lots of time to sit down. can any one where recommend good compression hose? i tried berkshire relief hose but they are not tight enough on my legs to do anything. if you know of a good brand (that comes in opaque white) can you share that info? TIA

I know someone who is a nurse, and she works all night. Maybe we should make her a mod so we could have posting at night.
yenta. you should go to a medical supply house and have one of their specialists fit you properly. Compression hose come in different strengths – I believe measured in mm of hg, like blood pressure. You may require a script from your doctor. Perhaps you may wish to start with a good quality support hose that may be purchased in department stores and some pharmacies. I just checked the package of the compression hose that I wore after I broke my hips and after my hip replacements. The original script was given to me by the ortho surgeon and they are 20-30 mmHg.
It’s not the BRAND necessarily that you are looking for, but the AMOUNT of compression.
15-20 should be the lightest you would consider. If that’s not strong enough for you either, try the 20-30.

There’s a compression stocking store on 13th Avenue in Boro Park and online; perhaps someone here knows the name of it.
Any scrub store has good compression stockings. You can also by them on-line from Lydias (scrub store). They are the only ones that really work, because they are made for people in the medical profession who stand on their feet all day or night long!
It is probably not a great idea to get compression stockings without checking yourself out with your doctor first. Self-diagnosis is not the best idea and using compression when it is not warranted will cause different problems. So you are probably correct that you need some support which might be appropriate in the support hose but the amount of the compression is what would be questionable.
i wear the filaze ones when I need good tights and they are awesome. the levante are also good but none of these are really good for you if you need something more than typical. why do you want white though?

You don’t need to go to a doctor before you get compression stockings. Most nurses wear them, and we all buy them from scrub stores. You don’t need to get them measured or anything.

One measures the circumference to know what size to purchase (s,m,l) which is separate from the amount of compression.
