how many of the coffee room goers are habitually late
how does your job handle it? (are they ok with it, what do they do to try to stop it)
March 25, 2011 2:48 am at 2:48 am #752525cshapiroMemberno way, i am always on time or early…when people are late it really bothers me, time is money remember…
March 25, 2011 2:53 am at 2:53 am #752526DanTheManCanMemberyeah its all about the money
March 25, 2011 2:55 am at 2:55 am #752527cshapiroMemberi meant it figuritively…meaning time is precious, dont waste it!!!
March 25, 2011 2:55 am at 2:55 am #752528s2021MemberMe! I hate it, but I am consistently 15 minutes late every week and a half. (I mark my hours on a calendar)They usually dont say anything, and thank God cuz I give myself enough of a beating, I dont wanna take it from a o else!
Last year though, I worked somewhere else that had traffic and a crazy unpredictable parking situation.. I got dirty looks and critisizms EVERY TIME. Now I know I was in the wrong, but it was so hard to deal with, I quit at the end of the year.
Personally, a chilled work invironment is so important 4 my own peace of mind.

March 25, 2011 4:05 am at 4:05 am #752532simcha manMemberI’ll be pleasantly surprised if I get any of the money I’m owed before Pesach.
March 25, 2011 4:41 am at 4:41 am #752533oomisParticipantI always came to work (and everywhere else)a little early. One co-worker always came 15 minutes late. After four days, she was being paid for an hour in which she never worked each week. I don’t like that – it is dishonest, even when one does not acknowledge that this is so. And no, she had no prior arrangement with the boss to come in later than the rest of us. She just took a later train than she should have.
March 25, 2011 9:19 am at 9:19 am #752534rebdonielMemberI see nothing wrong if you make up the time lost at the end of the day. If you come to work 30 minutes late, stay a half an hour at the end of the day and it is not theft.
March 25, 2011 1:48 pm at 1:48 pm #752535SJSinNYCMemberMy company is generally relaxed. If I come a bit late, I stay late.
Today I came late because of an accident at the exit of the Lincoln Tunnel. I’ll make up the time next week.

if your a teacher or a mashgiach (in hashgacha not in a Yeshiva ;))
then you being late affects everyone else
March 25, 2011 5:01 pm at 5:01 pm #752537mytakeMemberI’m always on time or early. It annoys me. I’m trying to get out of the habit. Makes me feel like a Yekke.
March 25, 2011 5:05 pm at 5:05 pm #752538GumBallMemberIm in school and if by mistake i come like 2 min late i get into trouble. its crazy!!!!
March 25, 2011 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm #752539☕️coffee addictParticipantwelcome to the real world GumBall
March 25, 2011 5:36 pm at 5:36 pm #752540seeallsidesParticipanti am generally late, and really push myself to be at work on time although it is such a struggle. There is no way that the bosses don’t mind, no matter how nice they are about it. Even if i make up the time, they like to know that they can depend on me being there on time. One of my resolutions!!!!!
March 25, 2011 6:56 pm at 6:56 pm #752541StuffedCabbageParticipantidk is coming to school late considered being a late person? i mean if i had a place to be like take an interview for example i would be there early all the time. just….school is school and its not like im stealing the schools money or anything….right?
March 25, 2011 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm #752542Sister BearMemberlol gum ball used to have that problem. Like if I walked into the room half a second after the teacher -.5 off my average. Was terrible. What you should do is switch schools to one where you need to go on a bus. Then if the bus is ever late you don’t get penalized (thats what I do now :))

Wrong. Unless your boss is OK with that, he or she may be relying upon you to be at work at the exact specified time. It might be of no help to him for you to give him an extra HOUR for that half hour, if what he needed was coverage in the office or job at that precise time. I work in a place where each employee is vital to the smooth functioning of the workplace. If one is late, it puts a real tircha on the rest of the staff, who really don’t care if that person “makes up the time,” because she was needed to be there when she was supposed to be there, or else needed to find a replacement for herself. People who are habitually late come off as people who do not give a hang for anyone else’s but their own needs. Everyone runs into an occasional problem and can be late sometime. But if it is a regular habit, then you need to get up earlier and get out with enough time to get to wherever on time.

March 25, 2011 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #752545mischiefmakerMemberGumball-All schools (I know of) have that- If you come literally a second late, its horrible. I definitely don’t think they should allow latenesses but its totally taken overboard.
March 26, 2011 12:02 am at 12:02 am #752546sof davar hakol nishmaMemberI know someone whose a teache/rebby. They always say how nerve wracking it is when the teacher/rebbi before them runs over time. (they teach right before lunch break/recess) and it’s not fair to the kids to keep THEM overtime.
about being on time for other types of work it depends. i know someone who works in a place where – they have to be there from a “basic time” to a “basic time” not exact. Or if the work has to get done, doesnt matter exacty what time youre there. but in other jobs such as offices that close and open at a certain time it definitely does matter and is unfair
