Please share your cleaning lady horror stories.
September 20, 2011 2:15 am at 2:15 am #1020234GumBallMemberWe had a cleaning lady named Farsie…LOL it was like 9 yrs ago…she fell down the steps and when she got up she was laughing!! LOL she was crazy!!
just last week my leaning lady told us she cant work for us anymore…She was THE BEST CLEANING LADY EVER!! LOL but she never took a THING if their was a 100 dollar bill on the floor she wouldnt take it she was So good and she just quit…so were looking for a new cleaning lady….
September 20, 2011 2:37 am at 2:37 am #1020235BaalHaboozeParticipantWe were actually SPARED from a horror story:
We once had a cleaning lady from India, her name was….and I kid you not, Vashti. She was pretty good actually.
Hey, y’never know!
September 20, 2011 3:15 am at 3:15 am #1020236Queen BeeMemberLol on the Vashti. That’s kind of awesome.
September 20, 2011 3:20 am at 3:20 am #1020237mommamia22ParticipantI just let our cleaning lady go. She was very nice, but very irresponsible. She once needed to leave early, so (without checking with me first) she asked her niece to come over and help her clean. I learned about this arrangement by walking into my bedroom and finding her and a “stranger” standing in my room together! Other times she didn’t show and simply didn’t call, claiming “doctor’s appointment” the next time she’d arrive. What ever happened to phones??
Another one was hired through an agency. She came in and immediately said in an authoritarian voice: “the agency charges such and such, but EVERYONE pays me this much!” I never asked to have her back again.
Or how about the one who works for several months, then just stops showing up, then calls a year or two later, out of the blue, asking if you need cleaning help!?!
September 20, 2011 3:38 am at 3:38 am #1020238Smick.MemberThat vashti one is an absolute LOL!!!!
I was a madricha in a summer camp last year, where the cleaning ladies just literally walked off site, in protest for not being paid under the table directly to them and to the agency who employed them! The campsite was left without cleaning help for a full 2 weeks!!! Just thinking back to it makes me cringe….-UGH!!! : )
September 20, 2011 4:18 am at 4:18 am #1020239kapustaParticipantLOL but she never took a THING if their was a 100 dollar bill on the floor
You leave $100 bills on the floor? When can I come?
September 20, 2011 4:56 am at 4:56 am #1020240walton157Member@BaalHabooze: Vashti is a very common (female) name in India.
September 20, 2011 5:41 am at 5:41 am #1020241sweettoothMemberA lil weird mines. So I had this cleaning lady that arrived with her hubb n two kids..:}..I nearly fainted. But twaz geshmak after all twaz before pesech so her hubb did all the walls from top to bottom teh wife cleaned the cabinets n the kidz washed the bthrm in x time my house was spick and span.
September 20, 2011 12:55 pm at 12:55 pm #1020242BaalHaboozeParticipantSweettooth, I can’t stop laughing at your post, would have loved to see your face when they arrived!! Priceless, LOL!
September 20, 2011 2:01 pm at 2:01 pm #1020243TheGoqParticipantI think this thread is mean spirited in nature you may think of these cleaning people as lesser human beings but they are not they are people like you or me and as such they have feelings.
September 20, 2011 3:33 pm at 3:33 pm #1020244mommamia22ParticipantI, myself, did cleaning for families while I was a sem student in Israel. I worked for several families and had such different experiences at each. One woman never spoke a word to me and would rush me out of there before her kids came home (like she didn’t want them to see me). Another was so nice. After I cleaned, she would sit me down at her kitchen table and give me kugel and some of her shabbos food she had just prepared (Thursday night) and sit with me. I really learned a lot about how to treat vs. how not to treat people. I try to give a cup of coffee and a few cookies when they first come in if they’ve traveled far. I try to make good lunches for them. I introduce them to others if I meet someone I know while with them. I try to talk to them, and ask them about themselves, their families, where they are from etc. I make a real effort to treat them with respect, which is why, when they simply don’t show, or bring others etc, it really changes the dynamics in the relationship (the trust). My husband thinks I go too far, but given my experience, I see the difference extra kindnesses can make.
September 20, 2011 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm #1020245cinderellaParticipantI had one once that would try on my clothes. And she would put anything on the floor into the laundry basket- like books and brushes and everything else. But it was the fact that I walked in on her trying on my clothing that she was fired.
September 20, 2011 3:58 pm at 3:58 pm #1020246ImaofthreeParticipantMommamia, I bet your cleaning ladies love you and don’t quit on you! If you treat a cleaning lady with kindness and respect they will do ANYTHING for you…happily. and a little holiday tip once a year is a must, in my opinion.
September 20, 2011 4:03 pm at 4:03 pm #1020247mommamia22ParticipantCinderella,
That’s hysterical! Sorry, you probably weren’t laughing at the time!
September 20, 2011 4:06 pm at 4:06 pm #1020248mommamia22ParticipantImaofthree,
Unfortunately, they didn’t stay loyal. Either they got more money from others or may house was too messy! Who knows?
September 20, 2011 4:09 pm at 4:09 pm #1020249BaalHaboozeParticipantagreed, Imaofthree!!
My wife and I treat our CL with lots of respect and it pays dividends many times over. She has been with us for 7+ years, we treat her as part of the family. She is non-jewish Portugese woman with a good heart, and can be trusted with our children.
My neighbour, who doesn’t treat her CL with respect, is constantly in search of a new one.
September 20, 2011 4:14 pm at 4:14 pm #1020250littleappleMemberWe had one who (we later realized) made a long distance call the minute we left and stayed on the line until we returned. At the end of the month we got the bill and that was goodbye, though today if one had an unimited call deal I guess that could be worked out.
September 20, 2011 4:14 pm at 4:14 pm #1020251MDGParticipant“One woman never spoke a word to me and would rush me out of there before her kids came home (like she didn’t want them to see me). “
Maybe she thought that you’d be a distraction for her male children, or maybe she was embarrassed at feeling inadequate that she needed to hire help. Whatever the excuse, one should still show courtesy for their workers. We see that from Moshe with the first 2 Makkot.
September 20, 2011 4:37 pm at 4:37 pm #1020252YerslMemberI gave the cleaning lady linen to change and when she left I noticed my laundry basket was empty. I couldn’t figure out where she put the dirty linen. After searching for a while I decided to check out the bed and noticed she put the fresh linen on top of the old linen!
September 20, 2011 4:44 pm at 4:44 pm #1020253mommamia22ParticipantThe woman who used to clean for me used to sweep around objects, not under them. As soon as I let her go, I picked up some objects, bags in my room, and whoa! My son moved his floor mat yesterday and it looked like it hadn’t been swept underneath for weeks, if not months. She was cutting corners.
She also used to put our wet dripping dirty kitchen garbage can on our foyer carpet (while cleaning the kitchen). Needless to say, I asked her twice not to do this, and even showed her where to put it. By the time she did it a third time, I was pretty exasperated.
September 20, 2011 5:07 pm at 5:07 pm #1020254mewhoParticipantanyone ever have a CL that emptied the mop bucket water into the kitchen sink? yup this happened to me.
didnt fire her . jsut told her to pour it into the toilet bowl.
thing is, i cant imagine why anyone would pour it anywhere but the toilet bowl

September 20, 2011 8:59 pm at 8:59 pm #1020257ha ha ha haMemberphoto cute 🙂
September 20, 2011 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #1020258yungerman1ParticipantThere was a story in E”Y a few years back where a cleaning lady “cleaned out” the home of the family where she worked TTTO $100,000. (The homeowner was a money changer) He caught up with her at the airport before she boarded her flight to her homeland where she was promptly arrested.
September 20, 2011 9:07 pm at 9:07 pm #1020259commonsenseParticipantReal horror story! My neighbor had her cleaning lady die in her bed.
September 20, 2011 9:13 pm at 9:13 pm #1020260GumBallMembercommonsense-OMG!! FREAKY!!
A few years ago when we neede a new cleaning lady so my mother davened 2 hashem for “help” so hashem sent us a cleaning lady named Socora wich means in spanish help!!
September 20, 2011 11:02 pm at 11:02 pm #1020261happiestMemberWe actually had a Jewish Russian cleaning lady. Her name was a real Jewish name that you and I would name our children. At first it bothered me that we were making a Jewish women clean our house but then I thought that this is the way she makes her parnassa and she would be working by someone else. Also, we treated her very well so thought that it was ok for us to employ her. She was an amazing cleaning lady though!!
September 21, 2011 12:24 am at 12:24 am #1020262therealmgamaMemberi know someone who suspected his CL of (petty) theft. one day he checked her pocketbook and found some foodstuff in there. he promptly cracked the eggs and spilled the spices into her pocketbook, and stuck around to hear her scream when she discovered it!
November 26, 2013 6:15 am at 6:15 am #1020263👑RebYidd23ParticipantThere was once someone who hired a cleaning lady and I can’t tell you the rest because they were never heard from since.
November 26, 2013 11:25 am at 11:25 am #1020264Shopping613 🌠ParticipantWe have had cleaning ladies that think tablecloths are sheets and vice versa. CL that hang up whatever they see (clean and dirty clothes, toys, a football even…how does she get it on a hanger???) CL, that have stolen a many ipods and glasses. We always hide valuable in a place they wouldnt clean, like storage boxes that are piled up when they come….
November 26, 2013 2:20 pm at 2:20 pm #1020265Torah613TorahParticipantI was once working as a cleaning lady and the mother kept a collection of scotch under her bed! And she yelled at me when she noticed I had taken them out to clean under the bed, because her husband was home and she was scared he would see.
November 26, 2013 3:23 pm at 3:23 pm #1020266🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantSorry, I can top all of that. My friend had a cleaning lady who died while still employed by her. When she went to “pay her respects”, she saw the cleaning lady in an open casket WEARING ONE OF HER SWEATERS!!!
November 26, 2013 6:37 pm at 6:37 pm #1020267babygooseParticipantmy neighbor suspected her cleaning lady for stealing her diamond earrings – she was sure she put them on her night table and they were not there. She came down to call my father since her husband wasn’t home. My dad came up and yelled at her and threatened her that she better give back the earrings or else… she promised she didn’t take them
that night, as my aunt was lying in her bed, she felt something pricking her – – – yes you guessed, it was her earrings! she put them under her pillow instead…
November 26, 2013 10:36 pm at 10:36 pm #1020268Torah613TorahParticipantMay I note that mine was the only cleaning lady horror story. The rest were only horrifying to the person who hired the cleaning lady.
November 26, 2013 11:12 pm at 11:12 pm #1020269popa_bar_abbaParticipantOnce upon a time, there was a cleaning lady who died, and then she came back from the dead, and haunted all the old houses she had cleaned, and sometimes made funny things creak, and sometimes jumped out of closets with a chainsaw.
November 27, 2013 1:46 am at 1:46 am #1020270Torah613TorahParticipantPopa, thank you for that excellent, top-quality horror story.
November 27, 2013 4:54 am at 4:54 am #1020271👑RebYidd23ParticipantMine was better. It left more to the imagination, so to very imaginative people it’s more interesting.
November 27, 2013 8:12 am at 8:12 am #1020272peacefullMemberOk let’s make peace, Torah’s story was horrofying to the cleaning lady & rebyidd’s to the listener.
November 27, 2013 11:59 am at 11:59 am #1020273TheGoqParticipantI really dislike this thread.
November 27, 2013 2:37 pm at 2:37 pm #1020274👑RebYidd23ParticipantDid I say that my story didn’t have a happy ending? I said they were never heard from again, not that they were harmed in any way. Perhaps I meant that the people in the story, who just happened to have hired a cleaning lady, moved to a different country, not liking their native one, and lived happily ever after.
November 27, 2013 2:42 pm at 2:42 pm #1020275👑RebYidd23ParticipantAlso, perhaps they hired the cleaning lady last week and then went on vacation. Or maybe it was two days ago and they have the flu. What I really meant, you will never know, and neither shall I.
November 27, 2013 3:15 pm at 3:15 pm #1020276live rightMembermy cleaning lady story is BREAKING NEWS. it just happened half an hour ago.
apparently, the ladies wanted to clean my room. but there was one slight hitch in their plans: that I was sleeping in my bed. but that didn’t stop them. they threw the door open and switched on the light. and left me to deal with it. you gotta love them!!
November 27, 2013 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm #1020277Torah613TorahParticipantpeacefull: ???? ?? ???/???
November 28, 2013 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm #1020278👑RebYidd23Participantliveright:
You mean they didn’t clean you as part of the room? Shame on them!
November 29, 2013 1:27 am at 1:27 am #1020279live rightMemberrebYid: ummmmm what???
November 29, 2013 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #1020280👑RebYidd23ParticipantObvious as something that’s obvious but I can’t think of a good simile.
June 18, 2014 8:48 pm at 8:48 pm #1020281suli97Memberwe had a number of weird cleaners:
one stole my mothers earing’s and wore them the next day claiming it a gift from her husband!!
another(abt5yrs ago) heard me sing and told me she can bring her ipod for me to listern to “music”..she asked me why my religion was better than hers!!(fired instantly)
another wanted to take my baby sister to the park…(my mother said no) the next day she disappeared……THANK HASHEM she never took her!!!!!
oh and one pushed my sister off the piano as she wanted 2 play and lay on the floor acting out as my baby sister!!!!!!!!!!!!….goodbye ella!
commonsence: I cant stop laughing….wow the cleaning lady must of had a hard day!!!….couldn’t make it home b4 she died!! haha
June 18, 2014 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm #1020282👑RebYidd23ParticipantYou shouldn’t have fired her over a small religious debate.
