What Meir Porush says (fro the main page):
To my sorrow, as per the coalition agreement signed on 4 Nissan 5773, March 15, 2013, the fate of these 1.3 million children was sealed, including the possibility of the children going hungry as a result of paragraphs included in the agreement that will compromise the income of their parents.
What the Gemorah Kesubos (49B) says:
?? ??? ?? ??? ??? ????? ??? ????? ??? ??? ????? ???? ????? ??? ???? ?? ??? ??? ????? ??? ???? ??? ??? ??? ??? ????? ?????? ?????? ????? ????? ??? ???? ????? ???? ?? ??? ???? ?????? ??? ????
Who does he think he is, to throw his (and other’s) children on the public to feed them?!
April 18, 2013 4:24 pm at 4:24 pm #946780zahavasdadParticipantHow about people getting a JOB.
April 18, 2013 4:32 pm at 4:32 pm #946781HaLeiViParticipantHe is very right.
Even if you feel that the direction the state is going is correct, you can’t do something like this overnight. This is well understood here in America. There are many programs that we would love to discontinue but people depend on it and you can’t drop them like a hot potato.
They already lowered the entitlements drastically and people are searching for jobs. You have to wait until the first wave got settled before flooding the market with more. Pushing people onto a train doesn’t make more room.
April 18, 2013 4:36 pm at 4:36 pm #946782DaMosheParticipantSo he feels the money comes from the government, and that Hashem isn’t capable of feeding these children without using the government? What an apikores!
April 18, 2013 4:44 pm at 4:44 pm #946783gavra_at_workParticipantHaLeiVi: Aderaba, whomever relied on the public to feed their children was wrong in the first place. I would have hoped a “Charad L’Devar Hashem” would not be B’davka over the Gemorah (and as paskened by the Shulchan Aruch Even HaEzer Siman Ayin Alef). The Shulchan Aruch (there) calls someone like that “worse than a Tamei bird”, and although I am not Choshesh my fellow Yidden to be doing such an Avairah, perhaps Mr. Porush (unfortunately) does.

DaMoshe, do you work for a living?
April 18, 2013 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm #946785DaMosheParticipantDaasYochid: Yes, I do. But I am aware that Hashem got me my job. I am not wealthy – not by a long shot. When I got my tuition bill, I didn’t tell the school that my kids would starve. I said to my wife, “Hashem has always given us what we need, and He’ll give us the money to pay this as well!” 3 weeks later, I got promoted at work, and got a salary increase. Not enough to pay the full tuition, but enough for a decent chunk of it. Hashem gives us what we need. The kids won’t starve because of the government. If they’re meant to starve, all the money won’t help them.
April 18, 2013 7:20 pm at 7:20 pm #946786mddMemberHa’Levi, if the Israeli Chareidim behaved differently, it could have been done differently.
April 18, 2013 7:34 pm at 7:34 pm #946787☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDaMoshe, R’ Porush’s comments were directed at the government, which has no right to suddenly turn into a bunch of big tzaddikim with bitachon that children won’t starve because Hashem will help them.
I’m sure R’ Porush is well aware that government money is sent from Hashem, just as you are aware that your salary comes from Him.
April 18, 2013 7:45 pm at 7:45 pm #946788DaMosheParticipantDaasYochid: I don’t think he’s trying to turn them into tzaddikim. I think he needs to turn himself into one. His comment that children would starve was wrong. Their fate was not sealed. Hashem will take care of them.
April 18, 2013 7:48 pm at 7:48 pm #946789zahavasdadParticipantThe government money comes from Other Taxpayers, It is not Manna from heaven. Now if you want to argue that the original owner got from Hashem, that is fine, then convince them to give to Charedim and not their own personal choice of Tzedkah

April 18, 2013 10:46 pm at 10:46 pm #946793twistedParticipanta daf-yomi magid recently told me that the value of the daf is the almost daily golden lekach you can extract. I had a question on a famous story surrounding R’ Shimon M’shklov, is a person allowed to abandon his responsibility to sustain his family in favor of learning. I found my answer in Eruvin 22a:
Among who do yo find them? (skills of drush)Said Rava with one who, as a raven, is cruel to his children and wife, as the case of Rav Ada bar Masna was off to bei rav ( to go study long term). His wife asked, what will be with your children. He replied are there no more karmi (an aquatic plant with edible roots {rashi}) in the swamp?
Note: in Babyolonian culture reaping things from the swamp was the lowest of menial work)
This is also an answer to the good Minister. Are not the mothers capable of picking weeds?
