Have those that follow the Western custom of giving Christmas presents yet decided which of the newest and hottest seasonal gifts they will give their loved ones to enhance their Chanukah?

Since all jews are mishpacha, it is only proper that you give your relative a gift that will enhance my Chankah. A new Lexus will greatly enhance my simchas Yom tov and I am giving you the Zchus of enganging the Mitzvah of simchas Yom tov by letting you get me a Brand new Lexus

And those that follow the Jewish custom of giving Chanukah gelt are welcome to give me a million bucks. And then I can get myself “a few” gifts of my choosing, but I’ll be nice about it and not use red and green wrapping paper.

    no Joseph

I have studied fake halacha and like you are quite versed in the subject.

As such presents, cookies, smiling, singing, eating anything other than latkes and sufganiot playing anything other than dreidel are all issurei deoraysa and copied from goyim.

any other food served at Chrismaku parties is obviously copying goyim as is singing anything aside for Hallel (there are some modern poskim who allow songs from hallel to be sung even not in the context of hallel, but as you may know I am very frum when it come to fake halacha)

What about the minhag of going to kosher restaurants on Christmas?

What does Rashi say about giving someone a kosher restaurant gift card for Channukah?

Joseph: Please help… I’m all done buying presents, but now I’m stuck figuring out two things…

    1) Where am I supposed to hide them?

    2) What are you supposed to do with these super-sized single socks?

    Thanks in advance ☺

Lol… awww, yays!!! Thank you… for you didn’t just hand me a fish… you taught me how to fish 🐟💓🐳💚🐋

Seriously (kinda) though… maybe back in Rashi’s day, people used IOU’s instead of gift cards…

And didn’t Rashi’s French neighbors celebrate Xmas?

Maybe Jews went to someone’s a big IOU feast on Xmas.

? I understand all the words in this post, but have no idea what it means?

Lightbrite, the way it works — according to those who give presents on Chanukah — is to put the Chanukah presents in the sock and hide it under the beautiful lit up (for the festival of lights) Chanukah tree. When the kinderlach wake up the first morning of Chanukah, they are all surprised by what present the old Yid, Reb Simcha Klutz, with his big white beard and long red reckel left them after dropping in the chimney.

Mod… thank you for posting ☺

    Maybe questions…

During Rashi’s time, were there Kosher restaurants (staffed by servants maybe?) where Jews could eat?

Was there such a thing as buying a meal on credit, bartering, or on a tab (maybe like they once had at small town grocery stores) ?

For those who follow this pop-culture custom for this season, what presents did you under your Chanukah tree?

    I accidentally the presents.

Those who give Chanukah presents have the associated minhag of also singing Chanukah carols.

I knew the day would come when you would frown on singing chanukah songs.

    Are parties still ok?
what about smiling? My goyish neighbor smiles a lot this time of year

I was wondering what was taking your annual Christmas greeting so long this year.
Then I realized it is because Chankha is “early ” this year.

so there is still some time until your religion’s holiday hence your late greeting.

    Happy holidays Joseph

There is no halacha anywhere to give presents on Chanukah. There is a custom to give money called Chanukah gelt. This was instituted only for the children not be disappointed for not getting any presents.

If you have a love-hate relationship with someone, give them expensive personal hygiene products, because it will confuse them.

Just reread this thread. Disappointed it’s been almost 2 years and no one took up my “offer” of giving me a million bucks in totally Kosher Chanukah gelt.

I guess Joseph is right and this minhag needs major strengthening.

Actually, many people do give Xmas presents on Chanukah if their Rav allows it–to goyim, of course.

How about wrapping up some presents under a tree, to make kids happy? What’s wrong with that? We must make poor kids happy. At all costs

Any “gift” that would facilitate the observance or mitzvos by another yid would be especially appropriate even though many frum families now forego “Chanukah gift” other than perhaps for little children to keep them engaged with the menorah lighting and stories of neis chanukah. A new App for learning some variation of daf yom or containing all the weekday davening, a gift card for Uber trips to shul when the weather is bad and walking is not an option, a new stroller for the mom to take the little ones to shul (within the eruv of course if you so hold), or a gift for hidur mitzvah of some sort (a new challah cover, a “fire safe” blech for shabbos, a new silver box for that gazillion dollar Calabrian esrog, etc).

do these comments make sense to you ?

Joseph; I made a Baas Mitzva for my daughter without men which is necessary in order the girls should not feel left out as ruled by the Saridei Aish. Similarly, giving presents on Chanukah might also be necessary not to feel left out.

There is no reason you cannot donate to a “Toys for Tots” campaign run in our area by the Marine Corps reserve unit and local First Responders…..please show me where it is assur to donate to a goiyeshe charity. These programs operate as non-denominational efforts in low-income communities. While I don’t expect to see a fire truck full of Barbie Dolls and Leggo sets pulling up to the big shul in KJ , there is no reason a yid who has provided funds to yiddeshe mosdos could not also donate to other charities in the communities where he/she resides or at an office-wide collection at their place of employment.

On a serious note, all poskim and gedolim agree that Chanukah gelt is the way to go.

Why that is not a takeoff from the goyishe gift giving is beyond even me!

I encourage everyone to see the igros moshe inside. draw your own conclusion from Rav moshes own words what his opinion is on a bas mitzvah.

Rav Moshe does not forbid a baas mitzva. He says it is a reshus. When her friend have it, you go after the next best. Similarly, over here when the friends get presents, they will feel left out.

Your post isn’t serious at all.
“all poskim and gedolim agree that Chanukah gelt is the way to go.”
    source please?
No posek argues on shava kesef kekesef.
R’ Yaakov says explicitly that it is ok

“Why that is not a takeoff from the goyishe gift giving is beyond even me!”
    it is.
Though live up to your screen name please, don’t be like Joseph pick up a YD look up siman 178 it is a short siman, read the Remah, see the maharik see the pischei Teshuva (read the Gra as well of course)

    Laskern
don’t listen to Joseph, as always he is wrong. R’ Moshe does not say it is “It’s absolutely wrong. , while he does call it “Hevel” (in OC 1:104 (IIRC)) he does also call it a devar reshus. In other words not assur.

As it relates to the topic of this thread, chanuka presents and not the bas mitzvah sidebar, read Rabbi Yaackov Solomons little blurb in his “out of the box” piece on page 6 of this weeks FJJ (google flatbush jewish jourmal to read it online).
